Raiders Raise $25 000 for Starlight
Wednesday, August 30, 2006

The Canberra Raiders today presented the Starlight *'s foundation with a check in excess of $25,000, to go towards the FM104.7 Starlight appeal in raising $100,000 for the ACT region.

The Raiders pledged one dollar for every person if the crowd reached 20,000 for their last home match against the Melbourne Storm last weekend, and with a crowd of over 21,000 achieved this mark with flying colours.

The final figure of over $25,000 includes further donations that were collected at Canberra Stadium on Saturday evening, and the proceeds from the ActewAGL thunder sticks that were sold at the ground.

Margaret Job from the Starlight *'s foundation thanked everyone involved for the money raised on the day, and said the money would go towards a more than worthy cause.

“The Starlight *'s Foundation would like to give a big thanks firstly to the Raiders and secondly the supporters for a wonderful effort,” Margaret Job said. â€*'s a wonderful organisation and *'s great to see this type of thing happening for the sick children of Canberra and the surrounding regions.

Sarah Robinson from FM104.7 said the money raised is the result of a great community effort, and everyone who attended the match should be congratulated on getting behind the cause.

“This is an absolutely awesome effort and I can’t stress how wonderful the Canberra and Queanbeyan communities have been in coming together,” she said. “To raise this amount of money is fabulous and just shows how good the people of this region are.”

Raiders forward Michael Weyman was on hand to present the check to FM104.7 and the Starlight *'s foundation, and said the Raiders were happy to reward such a great charity.

“Having 20,000 people at the game last weekend was fantastic not only for us but also a great cause in the Starlight *'s foundation,” Weyman said. “It was a memorable night for the guys that are leaving at the end of the season, and this just made it even more worthwhile,” Weyman said.
