Interesting that they seem to be getting into ball and skills work early this year. Usually all conditioning the first few weeks but from the looks of things they’re getting stuck into fundamentals early. Like to see it

The NSW pact bearing fruit for the Canberra Raiders

Raiders recruit Myles Martin revealed he spoke with fellow Blues young guns Ethan Sanders and Savelio Tamale about the prospect of joining the Green Machine before he signed his three-year deal.

"I was at Parramatta before Newcastle with Ethan Sanders so we grew up pretty tight in Parramatta," Martin said.
"So we were always talking between us and a couple of messages with Savelio, that came down from Dragons, so we definitely thought about it. Once Ricky told us what the plan was for us younger boys and what they're doing in the next five years it made me make my decision pretty easily."

Every club’s ‘25 young gun to watch

RAIDERS — Savelio Tamale

He’s the Under 19s Origin gun the Raiders recruited from the Dragons, and Savelio Tamale is shaping as a key figure in years to come in the nation’s capital.

Before his time in rugby league, Tamale played for the Waratahs Under 18s, before he was poached by the 13-man code.

Under Shane Flanagan, Tamale made his NRL debut in Round 27, playing in the centres, interestingly against the Raiders.

Tamale played largely on the wing in 2024, but he’s also featured in the centres and at fullback in NSW Cup, having played 36 games to date.

The rising star was touted to be a star of the future at the Dragons, however the signing of Christian Tuipolotu blocked his potential path to first grade.

Meanwhile, at the Raiders, Tamale will have a host of names to contend with including Sebastian Kris, Matt Timoko, Albert Hopoate and Nick Cotric.

However, we’re backing Tamale to emerge from the pack in the coming seasons.

Young gun Myles from home but already feeling like he belongs

After spending time at Parramatta and Newcastle, the chance to be mentored by two of the game's most respected front-rowers was all the motivation Myles Martin needed to pack up his kitbag and head to the national capital.

"The chance to learn from them is massive," Martin said. "Seeing what 'Taps' did in international game, what 'Papa' has done for Queensland, their work off the ball, that's something I aspire to do. There's a big opportunity for me to step up in my role with them and give them a run and try and get a crack myself in the NRL.

Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Yep, pretty sure that is him in the background of the video just above @9 seconds. Assume it's train and trial.

He had quite a bit of hype a couple of years back, could be a decent pick up.

Sanders seems a well spoken level headed young bloke. Let’s hope we have an intelligent professional young player in the Cooper Cronk mould, not another Todd Carney, young, dumb and easily confused and distracted young player.

I’m all in for someone with Carneys physical and athletic talent, just not Carneys immaturity. Promising interview from Sanders.

Ethan Sanders quick to find his voice in Canberra

Just five months after blowing out 20 candles on his birthday cake, Ethan Sanders gave a clear indication of his maturity and willingness to move outside his comfort zone when he signed a three-year deal with the Raiders.

"Training has been great so far. It's been tough, they've been driving that from the start, it's not going to be an easy pre-season. As a young crew we spoke about not waiting for the older boys to lift it up, us young boys to lift up the intensity and let the older boys follow us.
