Re: 2024 Rd 5 v Eels: Teams and Previews
If Hosking is out, Whitehead's calf will recover, which means he can't play 80. So I'd pick Levi to play 80 and Sasagi on the bench rather than have Ata or Smithies play there. He can cover the halves and center in an emergency and is in decent form. Mooney for Saulo would be the other change.
Otherwise I'd stick to the same side, Savage and Schiller had rough nights (Schiller not really that bad over 80 tbh), but every player has got to have a few of those without getting insta-dropped.

Zac will be out
We have a young team with a lot of new combinations this season.
It will be a roller-coaster, that's just the way it goes.
I think sticky will drop hors and get some more miles into those legs , apart from that he will and should stick with the team depending on hoppa's burns.
What I'm interested in and what ricky will be looking at is how the players respond next week in particular savage , fingers crossed he has a spoonful of cement and keeps going

100% . I think Puru deserves a shot for some speed around the middle. Also gives us some flexibility. Mooney deserves a decent shot as well.Dylan’s Raiders wrote: ↑March 31, 2024, 8:36 pm 1. Jordan Rapana (tempted to give Chevy a taste soon but let’s get back in the winners circle)

Re: 2024 Rd 5 v Eels: Teams and Previews
As far as hoppas injury goes, I burnt my arm similarly about 10 years ago, it took about 3 weeks after the blisters busted to get the infection under control, then another few months for the skin to grow back and I'm stuck with elongated scars on my forearm that are about 3mm below my skin level, he may be out for most of the season

*Horsburgh had a shocker but I feel he is a player who works his way into form/fitness. And after his form last year I'm prepared to give him a little leeway.
*Mariota unlucky (really unlucky) but Mooney needs to be given a chance, he has huge upside. Saulo tries hard but is unfortunate to have so many quality middles to compete with.
*Sasagi and Stewart to get an opportunity. Rapana has been very good at fullback, just feel him at wing and Chevy fullback is better than Rapana/Schiller. Debut the young bloke at home. Sasagi on the bench provides balance/versatility.
*Savage had some good and bad moments. That'll happen to him throughout the year, happy to ride that out with him.
*I prefer Woolford but Levi has played well to start the season. Starling tries really hard but we look rudderless at times when he plays. Puru providing cover at 9 and as 3rd bench middle appeals to me more.

I'm hoping Strange is given a bit more rope starting with this match. He's been really solid but he hasn't been asked to do any steering or kicking in the first month. We could really do with some variety to our kicking game when the 5 rucks then hit and hope from Fogarty isn't causing any problems.

That and he needs to get some more ball because our left edge is being starved. We literally have Kris and Savage doing nothing but rucking it off our 10m line.Roger Kenworthy wrote:I'm hoping Strange is given a bit more rope starting with this match. Also the starling experiment needs to stop. As soon as he comes on teams can just flood the middle of the field knowing we will just be going straight and narrow every play.

Assuming Hosking is out, if Whitehead is still unfit I'd consider moving Smithies to the edge and just play Ata at 13, although there's every chance Whitehead is fit.
Schiller and Hors out too.
Asomua, Mooney and Guler in.

There will be no excuses back at home v Eels.
They embarrassed themselves last night. It was below par.
A solid week at training and no repeat..NO REPEAT of what I watched last night.
Behind closed doors I hope the coach sprayed them fierce.

Games like that will happen this year. Just because they won a few doesn't mean they won't go through all the same peaks and troughs.

I'm pretty sure Rick will put Hoppa in for Schiller. I'd be tempted to tell Schiller FG is played at both ends and give him another game to figure that out.
Mooney in for Hosking.

Kris was poor.. he still needs to earn that 3 jersey... tempted to go weekes 6 Strange 3. Kris to play cup or wing.
Re: 2024 Rd 5 v Eels: Teams and Previews
I am a biased Hors fan, but his first NRL game of the season was full of poor handling. I was expecting his first game to be mostly run hard/tackle hard, but he seemed to have been given a Yeo like passing role. I have no doubt he has the skill to do that, but he is behind on match fitness and it showed. Should he be selected against the Eels I think a more simplified role would suit him at this point in his season.

Re: 2024 Rd 5 v Eels: Teams and Previews
9 runs for 67m Red. Im a fan of his too but why do so many of our big gun players submit to tackles so easily? He need to be better. Much better.RedRaider wrote: ↑April 1, 2024, 7:13 am I am a biased Hors fan, but his first NRL game of the season was full of poor handling.

We’ve seen time and time again after a loss like that, Ricky sticks with the same team. Which is really a good thing. Only change we will see is Hosking.
