Big twist in Luai saga as path cleared for $6m Tigers switch after shock Panthers move

Jarome Luai looks poised to confirm his switch to the Wests Tigers after the Penrith Panthers reportedly waived the 10-day cooling off period.

Luai has been absent from Panthers training after informing teammates that the 2024 season would be his last, expected to join Benji Marshall at the Tigers on a monster five-year, $6 million deal.

Panthers predicted Round 1 team and 2024 overview

The back-to-back-to-back premiers enter the 2024 season without two of their big guns in Stephen Crichton and Spencer Leniu but such is the depth in their squad that a fourth straight title looms as a very real possibility.

3. Izack Tago
4. Tyrone Peachey
5. Brian To’o
6. Jarome Luai
7. Nathan Cleary
8. Moses Leota
9. Mitch Kenny
10. James Fisher-Harris
11. Scott Sorensen
12. Liam Martin
13. Isaah Yeo

14. Soni Luke
15. Lindsay Smith
16. Luke Garner

Panthers leading Wigan in the World Club Challenge 12-10 at half time. Wigan led 4 nil and Penrith for some reason were not kicking on the last tackle early in the first half. Wigan started with lots of energy but as the half wore on Penrith found their mogo. Wigan are a bigger side than the Panthers and we know how fit the Panthers are.

Wigan have won 16-12. What a committed performance in defence by the Wigan Warriors. Penrith no points in the second half.

Wow, great finish. Wigan got a few big calls but their defensive effort all game was huge and they deserved the win.

Not sure how French cant get an NRL gig, his defense has improved and there are much worse halves in the NRL. Maybe priced himself out.

Amazing effort from Wigan. Well deserved winners. Becan French unlucky to have been ruled offside at the kick. That call could easily have gone the other way. Fantastic try.

I wouldn't be too unhappy with that if I were a Panffers fan, they looked physical and fit - just a bit clunky in attack (some of which appeared to be strategy, possibly running on the last because of the short in-goals?).

Bevan French looked great, some classy touches and plenty of pace. Agree he would be in the frame for a few NRL teams based on current stock.

Braith Anasta carrying on like a pork chop. As if the fans from 16 NRL clubs care that the Panthers lost. I was certainly going for Wigan. Penrith. Never the World Club Champions.

The ref was poor some big calls going against the Panthers , not that I minded.
Panthers fans blowing up deluxe. Makes it even sweeter.

French's cut out ball for one of their tries was a gem. Surely he has put himself in the front windows of the shop after that.

Only watched the highlights but how was that second half try awarded? Didn't even look like it was put down over the tryline ... just aside from the clear double movement.

Definte no try.
Forward passes for another try.
Penalty for a 2 man strip and clearly there wasn't 2 in the tackle.

I didn't think the passes for tries were howlers and didn't see the strip penalty (but have read about it). That try in the second half is a really bad decision though.

They seem to put more weight on watching it at full speed over there and I thought at full speed it didn't look as bad. More the Penrith players pushing him towards the line then a double movement. Still looked like it was probably short though.

In no universe was that a try. No idea what the video ref was watching.

I only just came across this "try"

unreal decision haha... its honestly one of the worst calls i think i've ever seen
Bonehead is right, if it's a try it's a double or triple movement... but he didnt get there. It was very clearly short haha

I don’t understand all the angst. It definitely made it to the try line. I can understand concerns it might have been promoted. But it was momentum caused by the Penrith defenders. For the panthers to suggest it was a “sin” as the ref and Wigan player lied… I mean seriously! Boo hoo Penrith!

Hahaha boy, the lack of self awareness here is absolutely off the charts, isn’t it?

Honestly, I swear the only time GE is sane and sees things in a fair and balanced way is Origin time.

For me it was a definte no try , he was short then factor in the double movement.
Then blatant forward pass for another try and the strip was a wrong call too and not even close.

I'd be blowing up deluxe if it was against us , but it's against the Panthers so it's all good.
