Agreed. Every conspiracy theorist I know is in complete and total meltdown right now, it's a sight to behold.
Like Randy Marsh style meltdown?

Why? It was so obviously a stupid move by the Colorado court and it has only served to boost Trump, who was a pretty terrible president and likely will be again. It's a terrible own goal.

I just don't find anything about this current situation and Trump's apparent march back towards fascism amusing, but each to their own.

Careful, Reg!

Trump derangement syndrome is very real here.

Biden is a great president! He mentioned Lincoln Riley was murdered by an illegal immigrant in his SOTU address (her name was Laken, BTW)

In an interview with Jonathan Capehart Biden stated he should not have called Jose Ibarra, the Venezuelan national an "illegal" immigrant. He should have been referred to as "undocumented ".

Now that Haiti is ruled by gangs who have emptied prisons, are largely led by a guy whose nickname is Barbecue (obvious reason why, he sets his victims on fire), and Haitian people are reportedly resorting to cannibalism (source; WaPo), we will see more and more "undocumented " people enter the USA

People that have a very good chance of being Haitian criminals and gang members.

A wonderful president.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

When I look at an 86 year old who is losing his marbles I don't automatically say 'wow that 76 year old who is also losing his marbles and also happens to be a pretty ordinary human being is going to do a much better job'.

Yeah that guy who proudly admitted to saying 'grab em by the pussy'.

The guy that was waging a verbal war with another head of state, through his **** twitter account.... calling him Rocket man. Then when he defused the situation that he alone caused he's taking credit for defusing a potential nuclear war that he instigated.

The guy who provoked a mob to overthrow the elected government. The guy who is now going through civil courts with how many charges. Yeah that's 'your guy' and that is merely the tip of the iceberg.

In a country you have never set foot in.

It is hard to look past Trump’s outlandish character and conduct, which has often disgraced his country and his office … his language has frequently been reprehensible.

But how do you respond to Biden's "dog faced pony soldier" comment, calling a guy fat, or saying "if you don't know whether to vote for me or Trump, you ain't black"

From The Spectator: " Trump’s manner may have upset western leaders, but with hindsight his foreign policy record looks impressive. Under Trump, there were no major new conflicts. The same cannot be said for Biden. From the Taliban to Hamas to Putin, the world’s worst people have become bolder and more active since Trump left office."

It's a two horse race, and they are both nags. Honestly, it's a depressing choice. But for the good of that country, and the good of the world, it's an easy decision. Anyone, an inanimate rod over Trump. It's not even close.

You've highlighted a very important issue.

The lack of quality up and coming candidates.

Biden won't see thru the next term, if elected. The US would then be run by Kamala Harris. The unpopular vp whose own campaign to run for president has less votes than most

It does go some way to explaining the situation. Biden is a terrible option but Trump is worse. It's the very definition of a race to the bottom.

If the choice is posited as being between

a) a president who is a serious threat to erode some of the foundations of the democracy
or
b) someone who's **** at their job

That's not a choice at all imo.

For some strange reason people in the US, and apparently all over the world - as evidenced by this thread - feel a connection to Trump and what he stands for. They think he represents or speaks for them. But make no mistake, and I don't say this lightly because all politicians have narcissistic tendencies - Trump only cares about Trump.

When he came to office he fired some of the most experienced administrators in the country and replaced them with his own family members. Extremely experienced officials were in a predicament where many quit rather than dealing with his ****, but there were also others that gritted their teeth and stuck it out because of their sense of duty to public service. The country basically stopped operating for 6 months when he came to office. Their government had to secure emergency loans to pay their own staff, such was the state of the place. That is the sort of **** you expect from Zimbabwe not the most powerful nation in the world.

He played a large part in legitimising conspiracy theorists. Sure we all love to laugh at those groups that really think the earth is flat but for a world leader to respond to absolute facts as 'fake news' and doing this repeatedly and every single time he wanted to avoid any form of scrutiny is almost as bad as his attempts to kill off democracy.

He slept with a porn star and paid her hush money. While threatening to build a wall to protect the US from illegal immigrants he was using illegal immigrants from Mexico to renovate one of his hotels.

By what measure is Biden **** at his job though. All in all he has been a fairly effective President, with the usual partisan hamstring which is the house. My concern is that he is 81 and over the past 12 months has looked increasingly frail. 4 years is a long time at that age, I don't think that it is in his or his country's interests for him to run again.

And if you thought Trump 1.0 was bad, wait until you see the next version. Just Google "Things Trump Has Threatened to Do", it really is dystopian scifi type of ****.

Biden's just as bad though, because he's old and sometimes stumbles over his words.

I wasn't saying i think he's doing a **** job. I think he's been fine. Not particular good, not particularly bad. Agreed the major concern about his re-election is he's 81 years old and does not look up to the demands of the job, either physically or mentally. But i dont think Trump is any better in that space either, he's an obese 77 year old with the diet of a child. Either could croak and die any minute and not a **** soul would be surprised.

That being said his approval rating is at 37% and at the lowest mark of his tenure, so whether i think he's done a good, fair or bad job is neither here nor there, a lot of Americans aren't happy with the job he's done. And granted a lot of Americans think that purely because he's a democrat and not a republican, and are not judging that on the merits of the job he's actually done.

But my point is even if i were willing to accept he's been an awful president, and he's done a **** job. The choice between a man who's doing a **** job, against a man who will chip away at the foundations of the democracy the country is built on is no choice at all. And it's wild to me that people think there IS a choice to be made there.

Good and bad presidents come and go and they do so because of that foundation and it's a hard to get back the pieces of the foundation you sacrificed to get "your man" in the office, and when you're willing sacrifice parts of your democracy to win... eventually you'll cease being a democracy at all. And good and bad presidents might not come, or go.

This is spot on. It's all about Trump. It's about extracting revenge on those that didn't empower him to stay in power. He's been clear about that. It's about breaking down the separation of power and becoming the unchallenged authority figure. He's been clear about that too. And it's possibly the only way he stays out of jail.

How people believe this guy actually gives a stuff about them is incredible. Leopards don't change their spots, and his whole life it's been about him. He hasn't suddenly changed and he has said as much.

Whn someone is either outright praising Trump and his presidency or finding something to fig leaf their support, they usually say something about him doing good things for the economy.

Which is funny because right now the US economy is going gangbusters.

If the old “it’s the economy stupid” adage really is true, by rights Biden should absolutely piss in the election in November.

But that doesn’t look like it is going to happen.

I don’t think it is over for Biden though. As is always the case in USpol it is all about getting your base to turn out for the vote. I think when the urgency of the propsect of facing another Trump presidency becomes truly imminent, there will be some mobilisation from the progressive side.

An interesting podcast dropped yesterday on the possible implications of a Trump presidency internationally and its effects on Australia.

Cutting all funding to Ukraine precipitating a Russian victory is a certainty. Whether that emboldens China to seize the opportunity and take Taiwan, time will tell.
