Troy Junior (TJ) Dargan
On behalf of the Dargan family, it is with a heavy heart that we share the news of TJ’s tragic passing over night. He and his family were holidaying in the Cook Island where TJ was involved in a motorcycle accident. TJ was not only an @ariasportsgroup client but a long time friend and great mate. He is currently a Canberra Raider and formerly a member of the Manly Sea Eagles, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Brisbane Broncos and Parramatta Eels. TJ is a beloved son to Troy and Wendy, loving brother to Tamalee and Korokai, and friend to many many others. The family have asked for privacy at this very devastating time. TJ will he greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Met Troy a few weeks ago and seemed like a really level headed bloke honestly leaving me with the impression he would be starting in the halves this season for us. RIP to the poor bloke, reminding us all we are only just passing through.
Re: Vale Troy Dargan
Just had a great Xmas day and then saw this terrible news.
My heart goes out to his family and his loved ones. I can’t imagine what they are feeling at the moment.
Best wishes and safe travels to all our big Raiders family, I’m talking the fans through to the players and officials.

Cause of death revealed following Raider's tragic Christmas accident
Cook Islands police believe alcohol and speed were factors in the motorcycle accident that led to Raiders squad member Troy Dargan's death.
"The 26 year-old driver sustained fatal injuries when he crashed his motorbike by the Aitutaki Airport, around 1am. He had been on his way back to his holiday accommodation after a family night out. This was the fifth road fatality in the Cook Islands this year."

Ah man, as soon as the early reports came out I was flashing back to photos some of my idiot mates would throw up on social media from places like Bali when they’d clearly had a few and jumped on a scooter.

Troy Dargan family statement: GoFundMe raises enough funds to bring NRL player home from Cook Islands
The family of Troy Dargan have spoken of their sorrow following the death of the Canberra Raiders player on Christmas Eve. The Dargan family confirmed Troy’s body would be repatriated from the Cook Islands to Sydney on Saturday after $70,000 was raised by the rugby league community on a GoFundMe page.

Family statement
On behalf of Troy’s (TJ’s) siblings and family, we wish to express our genuine gratitude to all those who contributed to bringing our son home. We understand that this financial climate makes it extremely difficult for families, especially at Christmas time.
We are thankful that our family have been in your thoughts. The outpouring of love and support we have received since the passing of our son, has been extremely overwhelming and deeply felt from us as his parents and broader family. We can not start to express our gratitude to the NRL community and particularly the clubs Troy (TJ) had played for over the years.
Due to the overwhelming receipt of donations via GoFundMe, we have well exceeded the amount necessary to bring our son home. We will be closing the account today. We will never have enough "thank yous" for your thoughts, prayers and love. He is coming home! This only happened because of your unbelievable generosity. In particular a special mention to Casey Ralph and the Ralph family who assisted in the reparation of our son coming home. Troy (TJ) will be departing Rarotonga, Cook Islands on Thursday (Cook Islands time) arriving back home in Sydney on Saturday.
Please know that all the messages, comments, calls and loving conversations, have been the only way we've been able to get through the most traumatic, distressing time in our lives. We are in shock to know that our son made such an impression on so many people across Australia and abroad. In the next week or so, we will be able to provide details of his funeral arrangements, for anyone who wishes to say their last goodbyes.

Was having a look at the GoFundMe and Don Furner was the highest contributor at $5k. Not the club.. but Don's personal contribution. He hasn't played a game for us and Don has gone out of his way to make such a contribution like that. Classy dude.

I did 4 weeks on Aitutaki as a medical student. Back then they had a tiny hospital with one doctor. No ambulance. No surgical services, certainly not set up for trauma. People were transferred to Raro via commercial flight which happened once a day except Sunday. Raro had more, but not a lot. That road near the airport is a long stretch near nothing. It would have been pitch black. Poor fella never stood a chance.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Canberra Raiders travel to Sydney to farewell half Troy Dargan
The jerseys lining the stage at the halfback's funeral told the tale of his rugby league journey - from Parramatta to Norths Devils and Brisbane, the Cook Islands, from South Sydney to Manly and Canberra. Which is why Raiders players and staff travelled to Sydney for Dargan's funeral at Warwick Farm on Friday.
The service commenced with an Aboriginal smoking ceremony as people made their way into the venue, where he was remembered as "dedicated, humble, thoughtful, caring and cheeky".

Re: Vale Troy Dargan
Very tough to watch. His parents were extraordinary in speaking about their son. Have to say I choked up a few times. Troy’s father told how his son “looks good in green” and told how appreciative he was that the Raiders had given his son another chance, despite having two “bung knees”. He concluded saying he now counted himself as “a Raider for life” given what the club had offered his son. RIP
