NRL Grid Game

Post by Botman »

NRL grid game: https://www.nrlgrid.com/

Fun little grid game a mate got me on to a few days ago. Website isnt great and struggles with traffic so hopefully i dont crash it

Gentlemans agreement that you cant cheat, redo or google

Interested to see what peoples scores are

I got 23.1 on today's grid (which has a bit of Raiders cross over)

Im sure GE will move this to the NRL thread, but its the off season so hopefully he might let it stay here a little whilst so more posters can see it

It's a grid and you've got the fill in the spaces with players that match the criteria on the X and Y

So top left hand corner of today's grid is Titans player on the Y and S.O.O player post 1998 on the X... so you're looking to fill that with a player who has played for the titans and also has played SOO football post 1998.
But the catch is you want to try and find the rarest options... So there is options like Aj Brimson or David Fifita, or Tino. But they are likely the names most people go for, where as someone like Phillip Sami, not as many people will think of him, so you'll get a lower rarity score

Middle top row is Titans player again on the Y, but Raiders player on the X... so you've got Fog, Rapana, Sezer... but also Michael Hodgson or Kris Kahler (who i played today)

The goal is to complete the grid with the lowest possible score... i've found it really fun to just remember some dudes.
Im keen to see what you score, reckon you'd be really good at this. You've got a good memory for this sort of stuff

I *think* it indicates how many options there are
Which makes sense as Todd Carney team mates and Canberra Raiders player (middle square) has a high number. Which you'd naturally expect

Correct, how many players fit the 2 criteria for that square

Had play it pretty safe with the 3+ hatricks... id love to know what the lowest rarity score for the tigers was... only 9 options, i thought of 3 i was VERY confident in

How good is this? Yet another blow to my productivity! Thanks Bot.

I also tripped up on the WT/3+ career hat trick player… I’ll be keen to hear from someone tomorrow on here that nailed it (no spoilers today).

On the other hand, I was happy to squeeze 2 raiders players into the grid. I always try and think of at least one if possible as a little side challenge

I thought about Nofo but seemed risky.
I got one raider in this grid... i did grid 19 the other day for a laugh and stumbled into a banger for Tigers player/Benji Marshall team mate, doubled down on him for Panthers/Tigers player today

Do you have any idea how they figure out the rarity value?

It's based on percentage of people who have used that selection
So the more common the selection has been played, the higher your rarity score will be

according to the help button:
The emojis are based on the percentile band your selected players score is for that selection:

🦄
Top 2%: You’ve hit the jackpot with a super rare match!

🧙
Top 15%: Plucked one from the unknown, showcasing a knack for spotting undiscovered talent.

🧠
Top 30%: You’ve shown sharp thinking with a strong match.

✅
The Rest: You’ve made a dependable and suitable match.

❌
Incorrect Match: This one didn't line up.

Yeah, but how does that work? Surely if you’re the first person to attempt the grid in the day compared to the last you’d have different percentages?

Na that’s ok, I’ve at times started typing a name, and saw another name pop up that I’ve used instead or for another square
Matthew Cross yesterday was one of those when I was playing Ben Cross

Think it's all based off stats, so if the clue was Melbourne and Cam Smith's teammate they've loaded the games that each option played with Cam Smith

So Billy Slater would be at the higher end vs the guy that played 1 game
