The eels have already won the battle of the logos. Tried and true, probably hasn’t changed since 1947. It’s going to take a long time for that ugly version of a Viking to grow on me, by which time no doubt they will change it to something worse.

Boy that 2000-2010 run was ugly
They've found a nice spot now... this new Raiders logo will viewed similarly i think. Its just not very nice

I actually prefer their two logos between 2000-2010. Their current one is basically just a throwback to 1979

I wonder if the Eels will pick Sanders for a cameo in this game.

Depending whether he is thrown the 7 jumper or the 10 jumper might give an indication on whether they think he is staying or going.

Based on Sticky's approach to trials half our team are probably on train and trial contracts.

Only 3 weeks to wait for the first trial game. So far there does not appear to have been any off field incidents or training mishaps to derail the 2024 season plans. Here's hoping that continues.

I would love to see Sanders and Weekes battle for that halves spot. However given what happened to Savage last year, I wouldn't begrudge the coach from just fielding youth/plodders purely for fitness.

It’s been a long off season and a particularly long January. I think both trials will have to be used for genuine opportunities for top 30 players (as oppose to fielding the cup team game 1 and NRL game 2). I would hope to see something like:

1. Chevy Stewart
2. Xavier Savage
3. James Schiller
4. Albert Hopoate
5. Nick Cotric
6. Kaeo Weekes
7. Adam Cook
8. Ata Mariota
9. Danny Levi
10. Trey Mooney
11. Jordan Martin (Sasagi if he has been training there?)
12. Zac Hosking
13. Morgan Smithies

14. Tom Starling
15. Hohepa Puru
16. Ethan Strange
17. Simi Sasagi
18. Emre Guler
19. Pasami Saulo
20. Zac Woolford

And if need be some development/cup players like Jed Stuart, Clydesdale, Trevilyan, Asomua etc

I don't see Hoppa as a centre.

He is a winger that is competing with Schiller for a back up spot.

Rapana, Cotric, X Man are my wing preferences
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I dont see him anywhere in FG
He's a likable guy and is a reasonable squad filling outside back, but short of cluster injuries i dont see a need for him to feature in the NRL squad

He got his chance last year, an extended chance. Lots of footy, lots of time, and he just wasnt up to it. Not his fault really, would have loved to see the teenage version of Hoppa hit FG without his injuries, but the footy gods would not allow it. If he's in the round 1 line up it will be a signal to the fanbase that Stuart's talk about turning a page and embracing a new era of Raiders football is on fraud watch.

NRL rules on the Trial matches in 2024 are that Clubs are capped at 28 players per trial. Last year it was 28 in the first trial and up to 26 in the second trial. Because the 2nd trial is at Seiffert Oval I would expect 28 players to be named. The first trial is a travel to Kogarah so the numbers may be below the full 28. I expect Sticky will name a 'first' 13 and a 'second' 13 for the trial games.

Putting this out there now… yes as a fan it’s nice to win trials and play well but ultimately these games give no indication of the season ahead (think back to when Wests Tigers slaughters us in the first trial last year).

In saying that, how good is it to have footy back and raiders 13+

tigers only scored against our b team players though. When we had a decent team on the park it was even.

It's not about results it's about what you get out of the match in terms of cohesion and fitness

Given it’s a trial, I am expecting the TL to be of all 30 players.
Maybe minus the people playing in the all stars.

Looking at the team last year it's more of a indicator of who won't be playing round 1. Although Levi was the exception.

Completely different set of circumstances this year though. I’d expect we’ll see the current front runners for each position given first crack and named in those position this week. (Atleast I hope so)
