Troy Dargan
Age: 26
Height: 174cms
Weight: 87kgs
Position: Halfback, five eighth
Nickname: Dargz

Troy Dargan (born 15 October 1997) is a Cook Islands international rugby league footballer who played as a five-eighth or halfback for the Blacktown Sea Eagles in the NSW Cup in 2023. He previously played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Dargan is of Cook Islands and Indigenous Australian descent. He was educated at Knox Grammar School, Sydney. It was there where he represented the 2014 Australian Schoolboys. Dargan played his junior rugby league for Cabramatta Two Blues before signing for the Parramatta Eels.

Dargan made his NRL debut in Round 3 of the 2020 NRL season for South Sydney in their 28–12 loss against the Sydney Roosters following the resumption of the sport due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He played two NRL games for the club in 2020, but none the following year. He was released at the end of 2021.

He played NSW Cup (20 games) with the Wentworth Magpies in 2016-17, while with the Eels. He then joined the Broncos system, playing 41 Queensland Cup games for the Norths Devils in 2018-19. He played 10 NSW Cup games with the Rabbitohs in 2020-21. He played only six games with the Sea Eagles in NSW Cup in 2023.

Dargan has represented the Blues at Under 20s level and the Cook Islands twice.

My take is we are in the market to sign players for 2025. When we land someone we may try and have them released early and would consider releasing one of our own should that be required.

Yeah now we've got a back up half that's it for 2024 recruitment unless somebody "shakes out". Hopefully we can secure that second rower with a point of difference we're after for 2025.

The new Frawley I guess.

I did note the disclaimer "Please note this list is subject to change and only includes players who have current NRL or development contracts with the club in 2024.". I am sure they have a heap of flexibility with the huge piles of free cap they have to spend.

How does top 30 work ? My understanding it's on their salary. So if we sign a player to bigger money it pushes a player out of the top 30 from the lower end , lowest paid.

The Raiders say the lists are subject to change. If they bring someone else in who is more highly paid, they can drop players to supplementary list or training contracts.

I don't know the circumstances for the Josh James departure, but he had been in our system for some years and I thought he had a good 2023. I've not seen anything on the 'highlights' of Dargan to suggest he is a better player.

Troy Dargan? Sounds suspiciously like "Josh Dugan" to me.

The reason for Sanders signing hasn't changed , he has no pathway to FG at Parra , their halves are signed long term.

Considering that he's 26 which isn't exactly young in rugby league terms, it looks more like the type of signing where you've got worst case scenario injury cover without blocking the path for a guy like Sanders to me.

South’s, Parra, Roosters, Broncos, Manly - the lad has certainly spent a time in a lot of different systems. Maybe 6th time lucky?

GE, your post of September 11, 2023 in the 2023 Raiders NSW Cup thread. It says he is not being re-signed.

If Josh James was staying why would the Raiders sign a 26 year old NSW Cup half? We already have Fog and Sanders is on the way. James would have been right to retain as he was our NSW Cup half in the finals this year. But as I said in my post, I don't know the circumstances of his departure. If he was staying why do we need Dargan?

It was based on a comment made on The GH Facebook group... someone who should know... that he wasn't being re-signed. Having checked out the background now. So I guess we will soon know for sure.

How can they have a hige pile of cash when they are required to spend 95% of the cap?

Regardless of whether Sanders backflips or not, we were definitely going to be buying a halfback though. We were one short in that position.

Yes, but buying a 26yr old journeyman is uninspiring. I'd rather hold onto a 20-23yr old with promise

Yeah. I couldn't really work this out either. But if you consider that this dude will be 3rd in line after fog and the colonel, then it makes sense... he is effectively the reserve reggies half... has a bunch of experience plus some first grade experience, would have come cheap... imo ticks the box for a 3rd string half, not a 2nd string
