Canberra Raiders look to lay down New Zealand foundation with raid across the ditch
Canberra is heading on a New Zealand raid for the NRLW side. Raiders coach Darrin Borthwick, co-captains Zahara Temara, Grace Kemp and director Katrina Fanning will travel to New Zealand's north island this week for a series of school visits and coaching clinics.
"To be able to go across there to find the next Madison Bartlett, to find the next Cheyelle - that's pretty cool because we're going in their backyard and they're playing for the Canberra Raiders," Taufa said.

Re: Canberra Raiders selected for Pacific Championship
Very happy that Timoko has made the NZ starting side at centre. Well deserved and is a gun of a player, the service from Hughes on the right will be much better than what he got all season.
Also stoked for Robins-Reti who was one of our best players in NRLW. Disappointed that Apii Nicholls got dropped.

Given it’s a series, it’s a bit like the World Cup, everyone in the squad will get game time.Hong Kong Raider wrote: ↑October 18, 2023, 4:16 am Very happy that Timoko has made the NZ starting side at centre. New Zealand coach Michael Maguire focused solely on Kiwis, says Matt Timoko
It's Michael Maguire's passion that's proving he's good to his word - and completely focused on the Kiwis.
"He's been solely focused on us. You can tell just how passionate a guy he is ... you just know when he says he's 100 per cent with us he really means it. I haven't really received a blow-up from him. He must've calmed down a lot over the years because I've read a few stories, but they haven't come out. He's really good. He really drives standards. He is a hard-nose, but it's not in a malicious way," Matt Timoko said.

Canberra Raiders centre Matt Timoko's secret training edge ahead of New Zealand Kiwis debut
Matt Timoko will make his international debut against Samoa at Eden Park on Saturday as part of a new Kiwis left edge.
"Michael Maguire put together a little thing where one of the edges, our left edge, for the Kiwis got together just to have a little training session together at Shark Park, go for lunch and connect and bond before we got into camp," Timoko said. "I think that helped because a lot of those boys I've known of, but never really got to meet first hand.

The two A teams are out on the field, for the clash between New Zealand and Tonga. Not many in attendance at Eden Park right now. National anthems underway.
Next up a hymn from the Tongan team... as well at the Sipi Tau... and then the haka from the Kiwis.
Fine conditions, 22C in Auckland, and that'll be the maximum.

53rd min TRY NEW ZEALAND to bench hooker Paul Roache. He just steps his way over the line from dummy half, and from close range. Tuaupiki converts from almost in front.

60th min TRY NEW ZEALAND to winger Ali Leiataua in the corner, off the scrum play. Nice tip on from Keano Kini. Tuaupiki converts from the sideline. It is all the Kiwis in this half.

67th min TRY TONGA to winger Tony Francis. Great shift to the right, but the winger had plenty of defenders to charge through. Kini not stopping anyone in that situation... Teaupa cannot convert. He really needed to.
New Zealand 30-22
Now Tonga fail to stop the ball bouncing dead from the kick off. There is a strong wind behind the backs of the Kiwis.

Keano Kini's defence poor again. Talented in attack, but he's very small and really struggles in defence. Rocco Berry ends up saving a Tongan try.

77th min TRY TONGA to Sione Hopoate. He's the brother of Raiders back Albert Hopoate. Completely unmarked on the left wing. All they had to do was shoot the pass out to him. No conversion Teaupa.

Tonga A 26
