Forgot who came on for him but it was about giving them a run , less about resting Cook. Also think he is outside the top 30 , therefore can't play NRL yet.

They replaced him with Prinston Esera, I guess Weekes went to halfback for 20, then Germ must've played there when Trev came on. Only two players had more than 1 stint, so it does seem like they were getting players match fit.

MATCH REPORT: Raiders stay atop NSW Cup ladder with big win over Magpies

The Canberra Raiders put on a sensational performance in Round 2 of the NSW Cup, recording a huge 50-12 victory over the Western Suburbs Magpies in the nation’s capital.

Controlling every facet of the game the Raiders ran in five tries to lead 30-0 at halftime. That continued into the second half with another four tries as the Raiders remain at the top of the NSW Cup ladder.

Last round: The Canberra Raiders sit on top of the NSW Cup ladder after beating the Western Suburbs Magpies, 50-12, at Canberra Stadium on Saturday. The match was all over at half time, with the Green Machine scoring five tries and leading, 30-0. The attacking football on display was simply brilliant. And while the second half was a little sloppy, the Raiders made hay after centre Declan Casey was sin binned in the 55th minute. The Raiders scored four tries in the space of just over 10 minutes - hitting the half century in the 73rd minute.

Centre James Schiller scored two tries in the first half - and completed a hat trick in the second. He was just one of the stars. Halves Adam Cook and Kaeo Weekes and fullback Chevy Stewart impressed, as did prop Trey Mooney.

In the 24th minute, Cook produced the most perfect cross field kick to the goal line you will ever see, hitting centre Manaia Whatere on the chest for a four pointer.

Chevy Stewart scored the most sensational try of the match just before half time, after a break from Michael Asomua from deep inside the Raiders' own half. While the chasers closed in on Asomua, Stewart was backing up and had too much pace for the pursuing defenders. He also set up the first of Schiller's tries, with a perfect short pass.

Jed Stuart produced a highlight in the second half, scoring a try up the middle purely through a change of pace. His run slowed and he almost came to a complete stop. That seemed to put the defenders to sleep - and he then stepped it up and tore off for the try line. Easy.

Mooney deservedly scored the final try for Canberra, just crashing through the line and planting the ball over the white stripe. He attracted defenders all afternoon like a moth to a flame, creating opportunity for others.

The Raiders ended the match with a 59 per cent share of possession, despite posting a completion rate of just 71 per cent (Magpies 72 per cent). Raiders coach Brock Shepperd won't have been happy with the error count (Raiders 13, Magpies 12). Canberra had eight minutes more with the ball in hand than the Magpies. The Raiders also made almost 800 more running metres than the Magpies - and made line breaks (11-2) and offloads (9-2) with ease. The Magpies missed a whopping 57 tackles (Raiders 16). Canberra's effective tackle rate was over 91 per cent, compared with 80 per cent for the visitors.

Trey Mooney (213) and Chevy Stewart (208) both made more than 200 metres gained. Michael Asomua (190), James Schiller (188), Jed Stuart (171) and Hohepa Puru (144) were not far behind. Mooney made nine tackle breaks, while Kaeo Weekes made seven. Puru (35), Zac Woolford (30) and Mitchell Spencer (28) topped the tackle count for the Raiders.

This round: In Round 3, the Raiders host the New Zealand Warriors at Seiffert Oval on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders will be wanting a bit of revenge, after the Warriors knocked the Raiders out of the NSW Cup finals last year. They produced a 49-6 win against a Canberra outfit weakened by suspension and injuries at NRL level. The Warriors are coming off a 38-18 loss to the Bears in Round 2 at Pukekohe, New Zealand. Warriors second rower Jacob Laban got a double.

Team news: The Raiders have named an unchanged line up. Corey Horsburgh has not been named in either the NRL or NSW Cup teams.

2024 season record: Raiders: 2 and 0 (1st, +54)
Warriors: 1 and 1 (9th, -16)
Form: Raiders: WWLWW
Warriors: LWLWL
Recent meetings: 2023 Finals Week 2 Warriors 49 defeated Raiders 6 at Leichhardt Oval
2023 Round 20 Warriors 21 defeated Raiders 20 at Mt Smart Stadium

Just watched the full game of NSW Cup. We were obviously very good.

BUT Wests were absolutely terrible in Defence. Talk about a lack of commitment mixed with woeful tackling technique.

That pack is stacked and better than a few NRL ones.

Interesting on Ata starting at lock, they have used him a few times there now.

2nd min TRY RAIDERS to Prinston Esera. Huge run down the grandstand touchline. And gets to the line himself in the end! Adam Cook converts.

16th min TRY WARRIORS to Edward Kosi out wide. It follows an offload from Chevy Stewart, first tackle, that was intercepted by the Warriors. It was not the option to take in those circumstances. No conversion from the sideline.

35th min TRY RAIDERS to Manaia Waitere out wide. Big cut out to Jed Stuart on the wing and he passes back inside to the try scorer. Adam Cook on the sideline… misses the conversion as it hits the post and bounces away.

What a pass from Jed Stuart, he was out over the sideline and managed an infield pass for the Raiders TRY. Stuart has both knees heavily strapped. Conversion hits the posts and bounces away. Raiders 16-Warriors 4

TRY to Woolf after he sets up a blindside move. Woolf makes the initial play and passes to Henderson who with quick hands gives it to Asomua to break down the touchline. Henderson is held back by a Warrior player but Woolford is there to take the infield pass from Asomua and dive over. Converted Raiders 22 Warriors 4

38th min TRY RAIDERS to hooker Zac Woolford. Great break down the narrowest of blind sides from Michael Asomua, to set it up. Woolford initiated the play with his pass to Asomua. Adam Cook converts from out wide, the ball caught by the breeze, but goes through.
