15th min TRY RAIDERS to Ethan Alaia. It's LOVELY! A deft kick from Skipps and it is perfectly weighted for the chasing five eighth. Brayden Darmody converts.

Raiders 12-0

18th min PENALTY SHARKS will get Cronulla out of their own half. Very soft penalty. We're having a drinks break, while a player is treated by a trainer. I think it is Skipps, after he took a heavy tackle without the ball.

22nd min PENALTY RAIDERS for holding. Seems to be on report to boot. The Raiders will attack in the red zone.

TRY RAIDERS to Mark Tuialii! He just drives hard and low and is able to ground the ball over the line. Brayden Darmody converts from in front.

27th min ERROR RAIDERS from Keahn Skipps. Stray pass to the winger and it gives the Sharks the ball, 35 metres out. The set ends with the Sharks kick going dead. Seven tackle set.

Now another error from Canberra on their own 40 metre line.

30th min PENALTY SHARKS in the red zone for a ruck infringement. And now another, this time the Raiders pinged for holding back a player without the ball.

TRY SHARKS to winger Richard Whalebone in the corner. Converted Bryce Sait.

56th min TRY SHARKS to Nikora Williams. There was a big, high kick from Ashton Simmonds and there was no Raiders player even attempting to get near it. That one was a bit embarrassing. Sait converts from virtually in front. The Raiders have to be very careful in these last 13 minutes.

67th min ERROR SHARKS from lock Alex Challenor. He was looking for an offload, but simply throws the ball forward. Now the Raiders get penalised in attack for some reason. Who knows what that one was for? They're being given out left, right and centre.

The set ends with the ball on the ground and Mpaso swoops on it.

70th min Skipps down being treated, but he's fine. He feeds a scrum... and the Raiders promptly go to the try line.

TRY RAIDERS to second rower Mahonri Tiotala. That's his first for the club. He got to the line and then all of a sudden he planted it. No conversion Darmody from out wide.

Good to see them get a solid win. First time I've seen a whole game of Cacciotti's, I can see the hype. His combination with Skipps and Alaia was a highlight. In the forwards I thought the Tuialii and Tiotala were really strong and Hromow had an impressive motor for a big unit.

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders produced a big, 34-18, victory over Cronulla at Shark Park on Saturday afternoon. The Green Machine had conceded almost 100 points in the opening two rounds - and sat on the bottom of the competition ladder after a winless start to the season. But they finally put it all together in Round 3.

Canberra started strongly, scoring three straight tries, and taking an 18-0 lead after 25 minutes. Winger Izayah Petricevich, who was making his debut for the club, scored in the corner in the 10th minute - taking advantage of a good cut out pass from half Keahn Skipps. Four minutes later, Skipps put in a perfectly weighted kick to the in goal for his halves partner, Ethan Alaia. And in the 22nd minute, Mark Tuialii charged over from close range, driving hard and low for the line. The Sharks responded in the 30th minute, with winger Richard Whalebone scoring in the corner. The two teams went to the break with the Raiders leading, 18-6.

Keahn Skipps was back in the thick of it in the 43rd minute, producing an audacious red zone flick pass to set up Mark Tuialii for his second try of the game. Two minutes later, Xavier Cacciotti made brilliant run from dummy half, weaving his way past five Sharks defenders, before offloading to fullback Brayden Darmody. Four more points. Tries to Sharks bench forward Sione Latu and centre Nikora Williams set the alarm bells ringing. But the Raiders reasserted control, with a try to Canberra second rower Mahonri Tiotala wrapping up the game in the 69th minute.

The Raiders have climbed into 13th place on the ladder - and next will host the Canterbury Bulldogs at the Raiders' spiritual home of Seiffert Oval. The game will be the warm up for the Raiders' NRL Preseason Challenge match against the Cowboys.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 22 all draw against the Penrith Panthers at Windsor Sports Complex on Saturday. The Panthers led 14-10 at half time, but the Dogs were able to come from behind to force the draw. They've had one win so far this year, over the Knights (28-26) in Round 2 at Cessnock. It should be a tough contest on Sunday, but hopefully the Raiders will be bouyed by a good home crowd. It will be the first time the Bulldogs have travelled to the Canberra region in this grade in a decade.

Season record: Raiders 1 and 2 (13th, -54)
Bulldogs 1 and 1, 1 draw (9th, -8)

Form: Raiders WLLLW
Bulldogs WLLWD

Previous meetings: 2021 Elimination Final Raiders 44 defeated Bulldogs 10 at HE Laybutt Field
2017 Round 7 Bulldogs 38 defeated Raiders 10 at Belmore Sports Ground
2015 Round 7 Raiders 42 defeated Bulldogs 22 at Belmore Sports Ground

Team news: The Raiders have named an unchanged squad.

MATCH REPORT: Cruel finish for Harold Matthews Raiders

It was a cruel finish for the Canberra Raiders in their Harold Matthews Cup clash with the Cronulla Sharks on Satuday. Canberra performed well and were the better team for a good part of the game. But the Sharks snatched a 19-18 win inside the final two minutes, with five eighth Callum Grantham kicking the decisive field goal.

The Raiders started strongly. In just the third minute a kick to the in goal from Canberra five eighth Jamie Cowling set up a four pointer for Geordan Amaiu out wide. Lock Jack Milne followed up in the 13th minute, when he stepped his way through the defence from close range. A try to Sharks winger Jyarah Delaney ensured the home team trailed by just six at half time. Ten minutes into the second half, Cronulla surged to the lead - after two stunning attacking raids down the Sharks' right edge. Fullback Oliver Lester featured in both tries, scoring one himself. 18-12 in favour of the home team.

With just over 10 minutes left, Canberra's Kruger Roache spun his way out of an attempted tackle and scored in the corner - just managing to stay in the field of play. A brilliant conversion from the sideline from Jack Milne tied the game up. Unfortunately, errors from the Raiders in the final stages provided more than one opportunity for the Sharks. And Grantham took one in the end.

The Raiders are winless after the opening three rounds and sit at the foot of the competition ladder. They have a bye this weekend, which should provide an opportunity for a re-set. They meet the Magpies at Kirkham Oval in Round 5.

MATCH REPORT: Tarsha Gale Raiders beat Sharks on the road

The Canberra Raiders produced their first win of the Tarsha Gale Cup season on Saturday, beating the Sharks 16-10 at Cronulla. The Green Machine started well, dominating the possession and territory. But the Raiders found it tough to convert that into points. Fullback Elise Smith showed that field position mattered little to her. She ran 90 metres to score from a Raiders scrum play in the 11th minute. She has a good step and once through the line, and in the open, there's no stopping her.

The Sharks hit back in the 22nd minute, when bench forward Koreti Leilua steamed down the middle of the field. Arianna Ruwoldt could not convert and the Raiders went to the break with a 6-4 lead.

Three minutes into the second half, Canberra went further ahead, after halfback Lahni Hall jinked her way through a small gap in the Cronulla goal line defence. She possibly could have scored a try herself, but she chose instead to offload to unmarked winger, Samantha Nealon. The Sharks levelled the match in the 45th minute, after Koolee Harbour put second rower Jaydika Taufa over the line. 10-10.

It only took a couple of minutes for Elise Smith to put Canberra back in control. Fed the ball five metres from the Raiders' own line, Smith found space the right edge - and she ran 95 metres to score, under the posts. Lara Cosgrove converted, producing a six point lead. The Raiders kept inviting the Sharks back into the contest in the final 10 minutes - and Cronulla threatened until the very end. They bombed a try right on full time. The Raiders had just held on by the skin of their teeth.

The Raiders have moved into eighth place on the ladder - and have a bye in Round 4. They next meet the Wests Tigers at Camden's Kirkham Oval in Round 5.

18th min TRY BULLDOGS to winger Chelden Hayward. They kick through on the last and the Raiders defence left a big hole for them to go through. No conversion from out wide.

The scoreboard is tiny, and the clock even tinier. Impossible to see. Canberra has really had the better of the game, but just not able to score.
