Did you think fox was making it up when you originally posted it on October 16th?
It created discussion. Unlike Ricky to do the same thing though

Yes, I thought so when the article was published. I didn’t include the claim when I posted the link to the article on this site… and while some leapt upon the reference on Fox Sports… The GH pointed out on social media multiple times that the claim was incorrect.Choc Magic wrote: ↑December 22, 2023, 10:00 amDid you think fox was making it up when you originally posted it on October 16th?

Re: January meeting with specialist could decide future for Corey Harawira-Naera
Fox Sports is very unreliable. Terrible spelling and grammar, too.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Hi GE, has there been anything from the club on the specialist appointment outcome for CHN? I know it was due in January but am unsure of the date in January.

Wonder if 'the specialist' is the same guy that hands out the black garbage bags?

CHN, Paps and the new Pommie were just enjoying a quiet coffee in Braddon in training gear. Looking very happy and relaxed.
I was tempted to interrupt them and wish Corey all the best with his medical stuff, but the Pom was busy recounting his drinking efforts.

Reports now specialist meeting delayed to Feb 20.
Raiders star's career remains in limbo despite surprise training photos
Corey Harawira-Naera remains in NRL limbo, despite undertaking light duties at Canberra Raiders HQ on Tuesday. The Raiders forward was running laps and he's also been able to do some weights. But he's still unable to return to full training after a crucial specialists meeting planned for January was delayed until February 20.
"He's still part of the club, he's still coming to training - he can't do everything," Raiders chief executive Don Furner said on Tuesday. "We have an important meeting with the specialists next February."

This is a hard situation for everyone, Corey obviously wants to play on, retire when he wants to. Raiders want to put his health first AND settle the team for this season ( biggish chunk of the cap sitting there)
What ever the outcome, I hope in time Corey understands the Raiders were looking at his best interests and there is no bad blood between everyone

Who pushed it?
Coz this feels like delaying the seemingly inevitable.
Is it:
1. CHN doesn't wanna know?
2. Club is trying to use up salary cap? (Though if medically retired, that might be a spanner).
3. Club is looking for the potential of more compensation?
4. The doctors are to blame?

Re: February meeting with specialist could decide future for Corey Harawira-Naera
He was having a device inserted in his chest to continuously monitor his heart. That’s a medical procedure in itself, fairly simple, but they put it just inside your chest near your sternum (and heart). Then they’d want at least a month, maybe two, of data to see what’s happening.
So the explanation is probably simple. It could relate to when the monitor was inserted and how much time the specialist wants to pass before analysing the data. Or how much time the specialist wants to see pass before they do some of the other tests they’ve been doing.

I think the Raiders are doing exactly the right thing by CHN. Here is a contracted forward who has had a medical episode on the field and they are doing what the medico's advise. I am one who hopes that the Tests will show that he is able to play footy again, but moreso that his health issues can be managed for life after footy. All the very best CHN.

Many people faced with difficult medical news will seek a second or third opinion to be sure they have all the facts before they make decisions.Matt wrote: ↑January 25, 2024, 1:42 pmI agree they are doing the right thing. It has been a lengthy process for CHN to get to this Feb appointment and no doubt getting the second and third opinions will take time, but nobody would deny that to a guy that bled green and nearly died for us on the field.
This could take a while…
Re: February meeting with specialist could decide future for Corey Harawira-Naera
Considering it happened on field in clearly unusual circumstances and that a proper diagnosis will take some time, I would have hoped the NRL might have taken a lead (towards the end of last season) and in conjunction with medical advice said something along the lines of “the NRL will cover CHN’s salary to sit out the 2024 season and give the player, club and medicos the time and space for proper evaluation of the situation”.
It’s the other side of the coin where the NRL takes the lead and stands down a player charged with a serious crime.
There’s a time and place for the NRL as the governing body to take some leadership on unusual circumstances for clubs and players.

The NRL covering his salary would set a dangerous precedent. But agree there could have been some proactive work to done regarding how CHN counts towards our cap given the massive uncertainty on his future.BJ wrote: ↑February 3, 2024, 12:18 pm Considering it happened on field in clearly unusual circumstances and that a proper diagnosis will take some time, I would have hoped the NRL might have taken a lead (towards the end of last season) and in conjunction with medical advice said something along the lines of “the NRL will cover CHN’s salary to sit out the 2024 season and give the player, club and medicos the time and space for proper evaluation of the situation”.

NRL has set plenty of new precedents with changes to injuries in rep games, insurance retirements and off insurance retirements due to injury, Covid changes whether on field or off field such as vaccination, and recently they talked about salary cap exemptions for poaching rugby players, etc.Roger Kenworthy wrote:The NRL covering his salary would set a dangerous precedent. I’m doubting a player collapsing on field with a heart issue will set a major precedent.
A good sports administration will make decisions and set new precedents when applicable. Rugby Union on the other hand will do whatever the crusty old guys want.

Insurance payouts are perfectly fine. You'd be surprised how quickly the Roosters Rabbits Storm and Broncos would start finding a few overpaid players with irregular heartbeats if the NRL started footing the bill.BJ wrote: ↑February 3, 2024, 1:47 pmNRL has set plenty of new precedents with changes to injuries in rep games, insurance retirements and off insurance retirements due to injury, Covid changes whether on field or off field such as vaccination, and recently they talked about salary cap exemptions for poaching rugby players, etc.Roger Kenworthy wrote:The NRL covering his salary would set a dangerous precedent. Raiders star Corey Harawira-Naera cleared for surprise return months after suffering on-field seizure
Canberra back rower Corey Harawira-Naera has been given the green light to resume his first grade career. Harawira-Naera met with specialists this week who have told the 28-year-old that he is free to return to the field.
Harawira-Naera has a defibrillator attached inside his body — just under his arm — as part of the new health reality he now faces. It is unclear how that device will impact Harawira-Naera’s ability to return to the field. It is likely he will need to have some cushioning around the device to prevent damage to not only Harawira-Naera but to opposition players who attempt to tackle him. There is understandably believed to be some reservations from the Raiders given the nature of his collapse the last time he took to the field.

Corey Harawira-Naera's future hangs in the balance despite a meeting with specialists, including a cardiologist, in Sydney on Tuesday. While Harawira-Naera's been cleared for an increase in exercise intensity, he still hasn't been cleared to return to contact training - despite it being reported in the Sydney media he'd been cleared for an NRL return.

Well that’s a shock. Based on the reporting it seemed destined to go the other way.
Absolutely thrilled for him. That last line about the Raiders having some reservations is interesting too. Curious to see how they manage him going forward.

Great for him that he’s been cleared. But I’m left wondering how it’ll go, playing rugby league with a defibrillator. Playing soccer with one is probably a bit different. I’m left feeling worried for him.
