MATCH REPORT: Erindale produce stunning golden point victory



Erindale have pulled off a stunning 28-24 golden point win over Endeavour Sports High to book a date with Westfields in the Peter Mulholland Cup semifinals. Scores were locked at 24-24 at the end of regulation time and it took a thrilling try from Alex Sweeney to secure victory for the Canberra school.

“It was sort of a bit of a weird game,” Erindale coach Ash Barnes said. “You can see Endeavour played really well and we just had some poor discipline.”

Erindale to face Westfields in Peter Mulholland Cup semi finals

Erindale’s quarterfinal clash against Endeavour Sports High School was ‘a bit of a weird game’, according to coach Ashley Barnes. They pulled off a 28-24 golden point win to reach the semifinals for the second year in a row.

“If we’re as ill disciplined as we were against Endeavour, we’re going to have a really tough game,” Erindale coach Ash Barnes said. “They’re a powerful side with some really good players there, so we’ll really need to tidy up our game. I think if we just focus on us we’ll be really competitive.”

Jacob Iosefa inspiring Erindale College's bid for Cup titles

Jacob Iosefa, a highly-rated junior already in the Raiders' system, was supposed to be on the field for the clash against Westfields at Campbelltown. But he can't after he was involved in a serious car crash earlier this year.

"He's improving. It was his 18th birthday on the weekend and he came back to Canberra ... I gave him a big hug and spoke to his dad. We changed a couple of appointment times and he's going to travel with us," Erindale coach Ash Barnes said.

Erindale just one of two schools with shot at title double

Only two schools are still in with a shot at the unique Schoolboys/Girls rugby league double. One would hardly be surprising. Westfields are, after all, a Sydney sporting powerhouse. The other shows the reward for hard work and enterprise. Erindale College, the winners of back-to-back boys titles in the late 1990s, are a school on the move. And, according to Ashley Barnes, who coaches both teams, it’s where ‘we want our program to be every year.’

MATCH REPORT: Erindale come from behind to secure Grand Final place

Erindale College bounced back from an eight point deficit to secure a miraculous 12-8 win over Bass High and set up a date with Hills Sports in next weeks NRL schoolgirls grand final.

Erindale trailed 8-0 in the second half before Lahni Hall found a way through to bring the Canberra side to within four points. With a Bass player in the sin bin, Uta Uatisone Poka was able to level the scores at 8-8. Then, with just a minute remaining a try to fullback Mya McGlynn sealed the victory and a grand final spot.
