MATCH REPORT: Sydney Roosters overcome loss of James Tedesco to defeat Parramatta Eels

The Sydney Roosters overcame the early loss of their captain James Tedesco to post a hard fought 28-20 win against Parramatta to open Round 5.

The Eels put in a gusty performance, especially in defence, producing a number of last-ditch, try-saving tackles, but ill discipline cost them dearly, with two players sent to the sin bin, meaning they played 20 minutes of the first half with 12 men.

Language advisory and some comments we’d never allow on The Greenhouse. But here are some quotes:

Wouldn't it be a good to switch Hodgo out he must be dead on his feet.

He was asleep just then.

Hodgos been a massive plodder in his time with us, he looks unfit and he has not much spark, delivery is slow too.

He needs a stint in reserves.

Shhhh. Don't say such things about the great one.

Time to hang up the boots, the game is too fast for him now.

Once again a try at the end of the half straight down the guts for 2nd week in a row while Hodgson watches. Hands should have been on after 30 mins at the latest.

Hodgo left massive gap by not coming across and being slow to react when play came his way. Then he put out a weak arm reach. A fitter play covers the gap or makes a play at attaker by running back and chasing.

"Hands should have been on after 30 mins at the latest." After the 2 sin bins and all the work in the middle BA should have shifted the interchanges forward. Not just the hooker. The Eels edges had far worse games than their middles.
But having a go at tired middles and ignoring why they might be tired is the exact kind of thing game day threads are for.

I’ve seen fullbacks avoid putting their body on the line, but the Knights fullback took it to a new level.

Come in here to write that defending deep behind the try line after a line break from halfway is the worst defensive effort I have ever seen. Image
Not that I would expect him to stop him in that situation but at least have a go at dislodging the ball or something.

I had to rewind in confusion because I thought it must have been a trainer not the fullback.

I immediately thought of our Robbo. Miller ran across his own deadball line instead of tackling Olakatoa (spelling?)

I only really took a serious look at him at the WC. Impressed me with what he did vs the good teams as well as crushing minnows.

Im real happy seeing cnk going well at the warriors, being isolated from his boys would of been the hardest thing and no doubt affected him big time, being back in NZ with his boys would be a big weight off his shoulders.

Loved his as a Raider. Still good to see him doing well.

Did he ask for an early release or did we not extend his contact?

Asked for an early release, so he could move to be close to his sons, he was contracted for 2023.
