Canberra Raiders sign all around star Mark Morrow to three year contract

The Canberra Raiders couldn't be more thrilled to have a young man like Mark Morrow in their stables. With a three-year contract in hand, Morrow will journey to the nation's capital once his schooling is done to link up with the NRL powerhouse.

“When he came to the airport he was all countrified and dressed up … like a cowboy,” said Raiders Pathways and Performance manager Dean Souter. “I thought it was pretty cool.”

Reminded me more of Joel Thompson
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

It's always good to sign a talented young player, but keep in mind Cyril Connell Challenge is the U16s and this kid looks as though puberty may have hit him earlier and harder than most of the kids he was playing against.

Nah, I've seen enough on this highlight package from a single U16s game. Sticky needs to grow a set and debut this kid next week against the Panthers. He plays left so we can shift Hudson to the right and send Whitehead back to NSW Cup. Make it happen. :cmon

Tough enough to make the grade in NRL without the burden of Pigman riding you home. Could be worse I guess. Better than having the backing of Billy or Affgsnajdh. That's the kiss of death for any aspiring player.

Put him in 5/8 and shift Jack so we have a 900k centre is the current vogue.

I thought we were letting Jack go so we could buy an elite half that will deliver a premiership.

Its not a vogue, Jack is a better centre than 5/8, that's why he gets picked there for rep sides. Not smart enough to run a team

How does having Jack Wighton at centre and either Schnieder or Frawley at 5/8th make this team better?

We are substantially worse if we did that.
Unless we’re actually allowed to play Morrow at 5/8th… then it’s a new ball game!

1. Savage
4. Wighton
6. Morrow
7. Webb

There's your premiership winning combo.

Latrell gets picked at centre for rep sides. He is not a better centre than FB.

Joey Johns used to get picked at hooker for rep sides. He was not a better hooker than half.

Etc etc etc ad nauseam examples.

Jack would be a rep level lock, imo. An absolute gun.

Jack would be a gun centre too. But kind of wasted. He's a good footy player.

For our team, he's best in the halves. But not managing the game. When Jack had a competent half and a good #9, he was the best #6 in the game. When he is asked to be the dominant half and/or only gets the ball on the 4th tackle (if we are in the red zone) or the 5th (if we need a megaboot), he is not the best #6 in the game because no half who gets the ball only in such a pattern will be any good.

If we have a smart #9 -and I hope Woolf gets up to speed in a few weeks, he'll be the man to do it, if we have one- and our coach allows a plan where we can actually USE a damaging running half maybe... hmm... after we've punched a hole and have a team retreating? Then he's a great half. When we used Jack as a running half- he kills it more often than not. He's top 3 in the position.

When we want him to do both halves jobs, with crap service and win games by receiving slow ball on the 4th tackle, set your watch to it.. well yeah he's average because that's not how to play FG footy or the best use of that very, very effective tool.

Jack is a good 5/8- I've seen it. But his team has not been coached to play effective footy with what they have. Nor have we recruited players to be effective within a desired system. We seem to be stuck waiting for the bounce of the ball or a miracle 4 player peak Jack/Joey/Papa/CNK season to miraculously align again? Which since 3 of the 4 were never sustained we can assume wasn't the case of a master coaching plan...
