Canberra Raiders star Jordan Rapana needs surgery

World Cup star Jordan Rapana will undergo surgery on his knee to remove a cyst, but he's expected to be fit for pre-season in the New Year. Rapana had scans on Monday and needs his knee cleaned out, but he should be right to return to training in the first week of January.

Hmmm sounds minor, but knee surgery rarely makes you faster

Cysts sound relatively inoffensive, not a structural adjustment which might have more impact.

When I was 18 I had a arthroscope and a cyst removed from behind my patella ( knee cap )
Was in crutches for 1 week, walking 2nd week and light jogging after week 4.

"Knee cleaned out" sounds more on the money than a cyst. Rapa was carrying injury last year and I hope he will be right for at least one of the trials before the season starts. There is opportunity for youngsters like HSS and Schiller to put their hand up in the mean time.

There were certainly times it looked like he couldn't stride out in the clear.

Best case, he runs a bit more freely again and the Rapanaissance continues.

I think Jordy can cope with just having the post xmas months of pre season at this stage of his career.

And then nurse him though to retirement off the bench until his early 50’s. Maybe he could play 13 or be a utility 14 off the bench.

Patch him up and keep him going as long as we can. He's a guy you want next to you in the trench.

Some posters wanting to move him on... afaic, until someone unseats him as a better winger, he can hang around.
You'd hope one of the young guys can step up, take that spot from Rapa and make it their own, but hope isn't a plan.

They'll have their opportunities, i cant imagine Rapana is going to play a ton of pre season footy, he misses games every year with injuries and suspensions. So if those are good enough to take his spot, they'll have the chance to prove it

GE, do we know if Rapa could 'return to training in the first week of January'?
