2023 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
The Canberra Raiders have lost winger Josh Smith. He’s returned to the Mackay Cutters’ Queensland Cup squad.
Hearing the Raiders have not re-signed Caleb Tohi as well, going back to Sydney.

On Moala, if he’s not been re-signed by Canberra I think it’s probably the right call.

Wonder how Juwan Compain and Rayden Burns are recovering from their injuries?
Re: 2023 NSW Cup
Juwan Compain seems to have been holidaying on the Gold Coast... leg/knee still in a brace mid September.

2023 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg draw released
The NSWRL has released the draws for the NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg competitions for 2023.
The Canberra Raiders have three triple headers and one double header at Canberra Stadium next season - with the Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup Raiders providing the warm up matches for their NRL counterparts. The Raiders will also play in a triple header at Wagga Wagga in Round 9, when they meet the Dolphins, a home game the club has tranferred to an away venue.
The Raiders had six triple headers at Canberra Stadium last year. The Raiders have signalled an intention to play NRLW matches alongside their NRL games in 2023 - but the NRLW draw for next year is still to be finalised. The times and venues of three home rounds in NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg are still to be determined - clashes with the Knights (Round 23), Tigers (Round 24) and Bulldogs (Round 25). Depending on the NRLW draw, it appears that some of these games could be played at Canberra Stadium. The venue for the Round 16 Jersey Flegg clash with the Dragons is also still to be determined.
The Roosters and Warriors will be added to the NSW Cup competition in 2023, with a total of 13 teams participating.
The Raiders will play the Bulldogs in "Magic Round" at Redfern Oval in Round 10.
The Raiders will play at Wentworth Park, which was the home ground of former team, Glebe, for the first time ever when the NSW Cup and Flegg teams meet the Roosters in Round 17. Unfortunately, the Roosters have chosen not to play those games at the new Sydney Football Stadium on the same day.
The Western Suburbs Magpies will also play their Round 14 NSW Cup match against the Raiders at Lidcombe on Saturday afternoon, rather than prior to the 8:00pm Friday night clash between Canberra and the Wests Tigers at Campbelltown.

20 Stars for 2023 - Michael Asomua
Michael Asomua spent the best part of 2022 powering up the pecking order among the Canberra Raiders’ outside backs.
His career until then had already led him to an SG Ball Cup Premiership and selection in the NSW City, Future Blues and Australian Schoolboys squads in 2021, which became the springboard for what Asomua would achieve 12 months on.

20 Stars for 2023 | Hohepa Puru
Lock forward Hohepa Puru is another case of ‘remember the name’ from the plethora of Rugby League talent at the Penrith Panthers in 2022. And more recently the young gun has headed south, taking up an ongoing training opportunity with the Canberra Raiders.
He was captain of Penrith’s 2022 Jersey Flegg Cup team, who saved his best performance of the year for last in the Grand Final win against Newcastle in Golden Point, later earning him Player of the Match honours.

20 Stars for 2023 | Trey Mooney
The quality forward stocks continue to grow for the Canberra Raiders with Trey Mooney being one of the future stars climbing the ranks in the ACT.
The Cabramatta product headed to the Raiders as a teenager where he made an immediate impact as a hard-running lock forward, but this season saw Mooney stamp his credentials as the next breakout name for the Green Machine.

What happened to Caleb Esra? Still in the system?
Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
Seems to be in Brisbane these days, not playing footy. Injuries have hit him hard in the past, and that may be an explanation. So much potential there.

Caleb Esera remained listed online in our 'Extended Squad for 2023' until December 2022. He still appears in that list in WikiWand (which has taken the data from the club website).
Fingers crossed he does a Seb Kris and returns in good physical and mental shape.

Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
I don’t think that gives us much of an idea though… Esera is still listed as a NSW Cup players on the Raiders website: https://www.raiders.com.au/teams/?compe ... eam=500633
But that’s not been updated post the 2022 season.
There are players like CNK and Ryan Sutton still listed there… There are others on that list like Josh Smith, Sione Moala, Thomas Casey and Caleb Tohi who I know have left.

Any word on Woolford, hoping he is being rested for tomorrow not dropped.

The junior reps are wearing the same strip as in those pics, with the blue shorts.
No team lists supplied by the Raiders for the trials… the Picton club that ran the trials today posted some pics of Jarrod and Ricky on Facebook, so we know for sure Jarrod played. And anyone else you can work out in the pics!

MATCH REPORT: Canberra Raiders produce NSW Cup trial win over Magpies
It was a slow start from the Magpies, conceding four early tries. The Magpies made a comeback, but the experience of the Canberra side, boasting players such as Jarrod Croker and Zac Woolford, proved too much to overcome. The Raiders ended with a five tries to three victory.

5 tries to 3? And the score was 20-12? Could no one kick goals or something?? Croker included?greeneyed wrote: ↑February 20, 2023, 8:05 pm MATCH REPORT: Canberra Raiders produce NSW Cup trial win over Magpies

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders travel to western Sydney for their Round 1 NSW Cup match against the Parramatta Eels on Saturday. The Raiders have a new NSW Cup coach - Justin Giteau. The son of former Canberra Raiders captain Ron Giteau, he takes over from Joel Carbone, who has become the club's head of recruitment. Giteau has been the head coach of the Tuggeranong Bushrangers and was the Raiders' Jersey Flegg coach in 2022. Giteau will also act as an assistant coach with the NRL team.
The Raiders finished sixth last season, missing the finals. They were very inconsistent, but the club was seriously affected by injury through all the grades in 2022. The Eels finished fifth, but were knocked out in Week 1 of the finals, defeated by the Bulldogs, 18-6, at St Marys.
Saturday's match will be live streamed by the NSWRL on their Facebook page.
Team news: Club captain Jarrod Croker has been named at centre. Matt Frawley is a notable omission in the halves, with Josh James to line up at five eighth alongside Brad Schneider. Elijah Anderson has been named at fullback, while Zac Woolford has missed NRL selection and takes the No. 9 jersey. Hohepa Puru will make his club debut at lock.

Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
Yeah that's an odd one. Probably changes on game day. He seems to be getting a Mr fixit tag in reserves. I think if you gave him some stability you'd get a good centre / 2nd row tweener before he eventually settles in the 2nd row at 23/24.
Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
No doubt the Eels first grade playing Thursday is an advantage. They will play their 18th and 19th men on Saturday and if someone was to get limited minutes tonight they might even back up.
Us on the other hand going to Townsville will take Hopoate and Frawley. Wouldn’t be surprised if Woolford, Mooney or Hola also go.
Not sure if the top squad players will fly to Sunshine Coast after this game.
