How is that not a Broncos knock on? How many times have we seen exactly that called a knock on?

Do you mean the Reynolds try? Staggs was making a tackle and Gutherson wasn't passing. Loose carry for mine.

Yeah, and for two decades that’s been called a knock on by the defender. Ever since Todd Carney dislodged a ball one day, as I recall, at least. The defender’s hand/arm came in contact with the ball and it went forward.

I thought it was only when the attacking player is attempting a pass?

Never understood the hype.

Gutherson and Mahoney must be the most overrated 1 and 9 I've seen. Not big, fast, strong or creative. Solid players, but don't get the love.

Eels absolutely need to hold onto Dylan Brown and avoid paying overs for the other spine players.

Mahoney will be really good for the dogs IMO
I agree he's a bit over-rated and will be overpaid but he's also super down on form right now and at the very least he's a base line level competent hooker, and the biggest jump you can make in a key position in sport is to jump from incompetent to competent. Which is what the dogs will do at hooker

That was my understanding too. Granted it's hard to keep up with the rules and interpretations of the PVL era. But if the attacker is simply running the ball and the defender is simply attempting a tackle and dislodges the ball, my understanding of it is that's play on.

But we see that all the time, where a player is making no genuine attempt to strip the ball, but in attempting the tackle, his hand dislodges the ball. Most of them this happen in the wrestle and in the play the ball and we see it fairly often (albeit somewhat inconsistent imo) ruled that even if the defenders hand dislodges the ball, if there is no attempt to strip, its a loose carry error... same logic applies here.

It's a knock on when a player is passing because *shrugs* rugba leeg, but if the player is not playing at the ball and it just attempting a tackle, it's a loose carry. This loose carry just happened to shoot 10 metres behind the defender.

Exactly, and putting it into a Raiders context - Savage knocked the ball straight out of Hughes hands in a try scoring situation last week. We got the ball back because he was judged to be making a tackle and not deliberately striking at the ball.

I genuinely don't know what these blokes are talking about. This happens all the time (though not usually do we see the ball spill backwards like that)

It's perfectly explained by the referee and the commentary team
The lead commentator on fox says "this be a question of whether the ball was knocked out or come out in the act of making a tackle" and you can hear the official in the background indicate to the bunker that he believes the broncos player is just making a tackle
If he's deemed to just be making a tackle it doesn't matter if it hits his hand and goes forward, because he's not deemed to have played at the football

I know we all hate the Broncos but fellas... get it together.

Nobody hates the Broncos more than me. When I type **** ... my predictive text pops up with 'the Broncos'. But you see this interpretation just about every game, every week.

St George 14-0 up at the half is great for us. Wonder if they can concede less than 42 in the second this time.

Such a clear 6 again for the dragon’s on the 4th tackle after a break down the wing ignored by the ref. It is such a lottery call too often.

Just as I wrote that, terrible call against Bird with a Manly player throwing himself over the sideline and getting a penalty, followed by a clear strip by Bird let go on the next tackle.

Garrick tries to milk a penalty because Hunt isn't square but goes into touch... then challenges going into touch and gets the penalty. Remember that very brief period where the NRL was controlling exactly what aspect of play you could do a captains challenge on?

I don't like him. He seems to get annoyed whenever a team wins a captains challenge and then penalises that team in some petty way very soon afterwards.

It's just the regularity of things he gets wrong. You see some games with a big howler. Just about every single set has had multiple issues in this second half.
Makes me think that far side touchie is a junior as well and he's not getting help.

Interesting there. Brailey threw a crappy pass to Gagai, which actually looked forward, but Gagai dropped it. Brailey gives away a penalty so he could challenge it but the referee decided he wasn't allowed to challenge it. A quick replay shows that Gagai may have been tackled without the ball.
