Re: 2022 Pacific Test Matches
That's what I thought. Samoa and Fiji are stacked with NRL players. Cook Islands are all state league players.Raiders_Pat wrote: ↑June 21, 2022, 10:12 pmProbably should have been Samoa vs Fiji and PNG vs Cook Islands

Re: 2022 Pacific Test Matches
Should be a cautious tale to anyone who thinks a PNG side in the NRL is a good idea. By my quick count 7 players in their squad play for Qld Cup sides other than the Hunters (who are actually based in Qld at the moment as well).
There is no way you could get all the PNG players to preference a Port Moresby based side let alone get non PNG players to relocate.

Re: 2022 Pacific Test Matches
I’m not a big watcher of women’s footy, but i feel I’ve seen bits and pieces of other games that I describe as a lot more skilful and polished. The bits of this game I’ve seen to half time haven’t been high quality in my view.

Here come to the Tongan team. led by Jason Taumalolo. Dusk is approaching in Auckland and what a sight greets the Tongan side. Red and white flags everywhere. The home team has some support too! Now for the national anthems and cultural ceremonies.

What an emotional moment... Jordan Rapana with tears in his eyes during the New Zealand national anthem and he's not the only one. What a moment for rugby league.

Wonderful sight, the Haka from the Kiwis and the Sipi Tau led by former Raiders Siliva Havili. Astounding atmosphere.

We are running late in Auckland, the teams do a mini warm up. And now we're ready. New Zealand through Jordan Rapana kick off, we are underway.

3rd min Manu pass knocked down by Tonga... otherwise Jordan Rapana would have been over in the corner for New Zealand. Tapine heavily involved already.

4th min TRY NEW ZEALAND to Jahrome Hughes. Joe Tapine was at dummy half and spread it to the halfback. Looked like he was held up, but the ball touched grass. Jordan Rapana with the kicking duties, he gets the easy conversion from close to the posts.

If that’s the worst that happens we can wear that. I really don’t want a serious Tapani injuryWestsydneyraider wrote: ↑June 25, 2022, 3:26 pm This game has a rapana 2 game suspension written all over it

8th min TRY NEW ZEALAND to Jordan Rapana. He started it with a cross field run, Bromwich dummies, gets it back inside to Brown and Rapana is backing up in the middle of the field! Rapana converts his own try, another easy conversion. New Zealand have really started on fire.

I think this game might prove beyond doubt that you can have some of the best players in the world in your team, but if your spine isn’t up to it you are cooked.

15th min TRY TONGA to Sione Katoa. They took advantage of a New Zealand error from Bromwich and they score on their first chance in the Kiwis' red zone in the corner. Converted from the sideline by Kotoni Staggs.

19th min Great break from James Fisher-Harris from half way, great ankle grab from Katoa to stop him... and the Kiwis don't take advantage. A try was definitely on!

Re: 2022 Pacific Test Matches
I know a 60 year old bloke with a wooden leg who I’m tipping could put on a better kicking game than the Tongans. Such powerful runners and good outside backs but no guidance from the halves or kicking game. Havilli is providing some direction but the 6 and 7s aren’t flash.

26th min PENALTY GOAL NEW ZEALAND to Jordan Rapana, after a strip ruled against Tonga. Again a fairly easy goal.

29th min Jordan Rapana was away and just pulled down in the corner. Tonga's Christian Tuipulotu sin binned for the second tackle.

Rapa having a cracking game so far. He doesn't have to try and do too much in this team.

Interesting- Tarps is going well but he doesn’t have to do EVERYTHING in this team either.Roger Kenworthy wrote: ↑June 25, 2022, 4:01 pm Rapa having a cracking game so far. He doesn't have to try and do too much in this team.

31st min TRY NEW ZEALAND to Ronaldo Mulitalo in the corner. Most of his body was suspended over the touch line. They immediately take advantage of the 12 man Tongan defence. The rain really coming down heavily at Mt Smart. Rapana converts from the sideline. He's been absolutely terrific, in everything.

What’s the difference between Tarps and a power pole?
You can ground a power pole.
