Time to start the Chevy at half time
Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
Nice blind side break by the Raiders but now they drag the tackled player over the sideline. Penalty Eels.

36th min PENALTY EELS The Raiders made a great break down the right edge, Woolley kicks ahead. But it's defused by Twidle and the Raiders are ruled to have dragged him into touch after the tackle was completed.

42nd min Owen Pattie goes for the crash ball on the last and the Raiders finish just short of the try line. The Raiders need to convert some chances, soon.

49th min Raiders' cross field bomb is ruled to have been knocked on by Canberra chasers. Looked like an Eels hand was in it first. Time is really running out for Canberra. They have to score three times.
PENALTY EELS for off side.

It’s a frustrating game to watch, Eels defending really well.

53rd min TRY RAIDERS to Jake Clydsdale! The big prop charges and crashes through under the posts! The Raiders really needed that, right then. Sam Gash converts from in front.

56th min Great tackle from Leuluai. Takes the Eels out over the sideline. This is ridiculous. The was just a great tackle, and they've said there was a facial. That is a rubbish call from the touch judge.

58th min ERROR RAIDERS ruled, gives the Eels a scrum 15 metres out. And the Eels produce an error from the scrum play. Some justice in that outcome.

59th min PENALTY RAIDERS as the Eels were offside at the scrum. Ethan Alaia has done well since he's come on.
Now a forward pass is ruled against Canberra. Incomplete set. Another dubious call.

Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
A fine season from the Raiders SG Ball side but it was not to be tonight. I thought Prop Clydesdale was the pick for the Raiders. Defensively some good work from Feavei, Hromow and Mariota. Skipps kicking was ok. Chevy Stewart was disappointing in that he tried to do everything himself. Parramatta deserved winners and I wish them well against the Knights.
Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
I know it’s only one game but I was quite unimpressed. The attack from us was very slow. There seems to be nobody from that team that screams to me definite/likely first grader. Some good defensive moments though.RedRaider wrote: ↑April 22, 2023, 7:33 pm A fine season from the Raiders SG Ball side but it was not to be tonight. Parramatta’s team just looked quicker and more powerful than us though. Some ok prospects for them.

2023 Finals Week 2: Junior Representatives Wrap
The Canberra Raiders finished the regular season as SG Ball minor premiers, losing just one game and posting the best attacking and defensive record in the competition. However, the Green Machine was eliminated in their Week 2 semi final, going down to the Parramatta Eels 14-6 at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday night.
The Eels dominated the first half from the opening whistle - controlling possession and territory. The Raiders looked flat, exactly like a team that had not played a match for two weeks. All teams were given the week off for Easter, but the top two teams were given Week 1 of the finals off as well. And, as feared, that seems to have interrupted the Raiders' momentum.
The Eels scored three tries in the first 35 minutes - taking a 14-0 lead to the break. Eels hooker Matthew Arthur, the son of Parramatta head coach Brad Arthur, was first to cross in the 11th minute. The Eels repeatedly threatened on the Raiders' left edge, and winger Devonte Vaivela finally took advantage in the 23rd minute. Parramatta fullback Te Hurinui Twidle showed why he's so dangerous, scoring from a scum play in the 31st minute. Canberra's Sam Gash - who played on the wing after Chevy Stewart was a late inclusion at fullback - took a very difficult shot at penalty goal right on half time, but he could not put the Raiders on the board.
The Raiders came out in the second half with more spring in their step. But they still struggled to make an impression. There were too many errors, while their last play options and kicking game were not at the team's usual level. Prop Jake Clydsdale, who did his best to counter the Eels' big pack, crashed over under the posts in the 53rd minute. Sam Gash converted, reducing the gap to eight. And while the Raiders held the Eels scoredless for the final 50 minutes of the match, they simply could not get the breaks they needed in the final stages.
One call from the officials was particularly frustrating, when the Eels somehow ended up with a penalty after a great tackle from Siamani Leuluai took Parramatta over the sideline.
So sadly, it is the end of the road for the Raiders in this grade in 2023. There's a lot of talent in that team. They took the SG Ball minor premiership for just the third time in club history - and that's a huge achievement in itself. This young Canberra team has done themselves proud, and the might green jersey proud.

Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
I think that two week layoff really does need to be looked at. It wasn't only us. Penrith also got beat in SG Ball and only one of the teams that had a week off narrowly got through in Harold Matts.
It might not be the only factor, the fact you don't play all the teams can sometimes mean that you get a bit lucky with your ladder position, but having two weeks off at that age can be destabilising. I also think we fell away pretty badly towards the end of the season as a few injuries kicked in.
I guess some of those guys will now get their chance at Jersey Flegg level for the rest of the season.

Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
Interesting that both the Coaches Awards in Harold Matthews and SG Ball went to their 9's. I really like the passing game of Mitch Brophy. Good defender too. Plenty of good junior talent coming through at the Raiders.
Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
Not to mention we’ve got Ethan Alaia coming through at the same. Well placed at hooker.
Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
Would be individual as to which one "means more"
Players Player is voted by the players, it's like the MVP amongst the people you play with. It's usually pretty special to be voted the best player by your team mates
Coaches award is usually someone in the team who works really hard at training and to use a Furnerism does the "little things right", they're probably not someone who's one of your star players.
Most improved is someone who has made marked improvement year on year

Re: 2023 Canberra Raiders Junior Representatives
All those players who won the coaches’ awards, though, were definitely among the very best of the players.
