After back to back wins, the Raiders travel to Dubbo for a meeting with the South Sydney Rabbitohs - a "home" match transferred to the bush by the Sydney outfit.

Last round: 2022 Round 10. Canberra Raiders 30 - Cronulla Sharks 10. It is a game that will long be remembered in the history of the Canberra Raiders. First choice hooker, half and five eighth were all missing due to a combination of long term injury or suspension. A 25 year old debutant, Zac Woolford, started at hooker. Three Canberra players - Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Corey Horsburgh and Elliott Whitehead - were sent to the sin bin. At one point, the Raiders were reduced to 11 men. But the Raiders rarely lost control of the match. They went out to a 20-0 lead in the first half, and defended as if their lives depended upon it in the second.

More on Round 10: As I saw it

Team news: Jack Wighton returns from suspension for this match, with Matt Frawley shifting to halfback. Brad Schneider drops to the reserves list and will likely play in NSW Cup. Last week's debutant, Zac Woolford, retains his place at starting hooker. Adam Elliott (influenza) has been named on the reserves list.

Jacob Host (dislocated shoulder) is out for the Rabbitohs, with Trent Peoples coming into the second row. It will be just his second NRL game. Hame Sele (calf) has been named on the reserves list.

Late changes: The Raiders reportedly had eight players in doubt due to an influenza outbreak, but made only one change to their line up on Saturday. Adam Elliott will start at lock, with Corey Harawira-Naeara dropped to NSW Cup. Harry Rushton and Brad Schneider remain on the reserves list, with Rushton set to be 18th man. The Rabbitohs have left their top 17 unchanged, with Isaiah Tass and Hame Sele retained in their squad of 19.

Milestone: Josh Papalii will play his 250th NRL game in the match.

History: Canberra has won 34 of 58 games against the South Sydney Rabbitohs. The Raiders have won six of the past 10 matches - and have also won three of the past five. Canberra lost the Round 10 clash at Canberra Stadium in Round 10 of 2019, 16-12 - but prevailed in the epic Preliminary Final, qualifying for the Grand Final with a 16-10 victory at the same ground. Who will ever forget the storming, match-winning try from Josh Papalii? An injury ravaged Raiders followed up with gritty 18-12 win in Round 11 in Canberra in 2020, but the Rabbitohs prevailed last year at Canberra Stadium, winning 34-20. The two teams have never met in Dubbo.

2019 Preliminary Final Canberra Raiders V South Sydney Rabbitohs

Form: Raiders: LLLWW
Rabbitohs: WLWLW

The Rabbitohs survived a scare last week, after the Warriors made a big comeback. They ran out 32-30 winners at Lang Park in the end. They have suffered recent losses to the Broncos (32-12) and Tigers (23-22) - but have also eated the Sea Eagles (40-22) and Bulldogs (36-16).

Betting: The Rabbitohs are $1.50 favourites, with the Raiders paying $2.60. The Raiders have 5.5 points start in the line betting. The Rabbitohs' odds have shortened over the week.

Stat attack: This is a clash between eighth (Rabbitohs) and 10th (Raiders) on the ladder. Some stat attack facts... The Raiders are still last for completions, but the Rabbitohs are second last, just. The Rabbitohs make more errors than any team in the competition (Raiders fifth). Meanwhile, the Rabbitohs are last for kick metres, with the Raiders second last. The bottom line is, neither side kicks a lot. And, according the referees, the Raiders are the most ill disciplined team in the competition. They have conceded more penalties than any other team (Rabbitohs ranked 11th).

The Rabbitohs are first in the league for supports, but the Raiders are way up in that department this year too (ranking fourth, 15th in 2021). Canberra's decoy running is also up. They ranked 14th for decoys in 2021 (33 per game), but have risen to eighth (40 per game). The Rabbitohs are top four for decoys - and third for line engagements (Raiders 14th).

2022 Season record: Raiders 4 and 6 (10th, -53)
Rabbitohs 5 and 5 (4th, +21)

Attack: Raiders 16 points and 3 tries scored per match, ranked equal 12th on tries scored
Rabbitohs 22 points and 4 tries scored per match, ranked equal fifth on tries scored

Defence: Raiders 21 points and 4 tries conceded per match, ranked seventh on fewest tries conceded
Rabbitohs 20 points and 4 tries conceded per match, ranked eighth on fewest tries conceded

Possession: Raiders 49 per cent, Rabbitohs 50 per cent

Completion rate: Raiders 72 per cent, Rabbitohs 72 per cent

Running: Raiders 1438 running metres per match
Rabbitohs 1687 running metres per match

Tackle breaks: Raiders 29, Rabbitohs 31 per match

Line breaks: Raiders 3, Rabbitohs 5 per match

Try assists: Raiders 2, Rabbitohs 3 per match

Offloads: Raiders 13, Rabbitohs 8 per match

Kicking: Raiders 472 kicking metres per match
Rabbitohs 404 kicking metres per match

Tackling: Raiders 89 per cent tackle efficiency
Rabbitohs 88 per cent tackle efficiency

Running metres conceded: Raiders 1329 running metres conceded per match
Rabbitohs 1354 running metres conceded per match

Errors: Raiders 12, Rabbitohs 13 per match

Penalties conceded: Raiders 8, Rabbitohs 6 per match

Key match-ups:

Jack Wighton and Cody Walker: Jack Wighton has missed the past two weeks due to suspension, but he has been in some of his best form so far in 2022. He's scored three tries, and posted five forced line drop outs, three try assists and six line break assists. He's also averaged 97 running metres and 248 kicking metres per game. Rabbitohs five eighth Cody Walker has borne much more responsibility with the departure of Adam Reynolds to the Broncos, and he's struggled with that. However, he still has four tries, eight try assists, nine line break assists and three forced line drop outs to his name. However, all round, Wighton's numbers are better than Walker's this year. Expect Wighton to make a big impact in this game.

Zac Woolford and Damien Cook: Zac Woolford, the 25 year old son of former Raiders captain, Simon, produced the NRL debut of his dreams last week. He returned to his junior club a few weeks ago, on a NSW Cup contract, after spending time with the Bulldogs, Knights and, most recently, the Newtown Jets. He got two try assists in the space of 37 minutes. He'll play the first 20-25 minutes before Tom Starling is injected. Woolford's opponent this week, Damien Cook, has notched up 157 NRL appearances, and this season has scored four tries, and produced two try assists and four line break assists. Clearly Cook wins this match-up, but Woolford just needs to be solid in the opening exchanges and he'll have done his job.

Hudson Young and Trent Peoples: Hudson Young had one of his best games of the year against the Sharks. He ran for 174 metres, 50 of them on the way to the try line after taking an intercept. On Sunday, he comes up against 23 year old second rower, Trent Peoples, who is playing in just his second NRL game. He made his debut against the Broncos in Round 9 - making a handy 110 running metres and 48 post contact metres. He also produced a line break, a tackle break, four offloads and 24 tackles. Young wins the match-up, but Peoples did impress in his NRL debut.

My tip: Last week, I tipped the Sharks by 13+. The Raiders won by 20. So buyer beware! I'm very happy to have been so wrong. This week, I think the Raiders have a real chance in getting their third win in a row. The Rabbitohs look a bit vulnerable to me, with Cameron Murray and Latrell Mitchell still on the sidelines. The Raiders have plenty of key injuries themselves, but if they play like they did against the Sharks, they can certainly get on top of the Rabbitohs. Raiders by six.

What they're saying:

Coach Ricky Stuart on the debut of Zac Woolford: "He made a wonderful contribution. He probably could have played more minutes at the start of the game but I knew I was going to need him at the back end. He got a clearance from the NRL yesterday at half past ten, just before we trained. That was the confidence I had in bringing him into the team [and putting him into a starting role]. He had good control around the ruck."

Schneider starting. Was Frawley one of the flu victims or is this classic Ricky smokescreen?

Teams back in the sheds after the warm up. Final stages of preparations. This is a Rabbitohs home game... so the Raiders head out first. Here they come, led by Josh Papalii! Game 250. Now the Rabbitohs. Plenty of vacant spaces around the ground and in the grandstand. Rabbitohs kick off, we are underway!

5th min TRY RAIDERS to Nick Cotric, the Wighton pass cuts out two players and the Rabbitohs are well in field, leaving Cotric in wide open spaces on the wing. It's off the back of a penalty. Brad Schneider out wide, can't get the conversion.

Raiders 4-0
