Interesting. Seems Ricky doesn't like to change a winning team, especially such a resounding one, with all of the effort plays that he loves... and it's understandable too. I'm actually impressed that Elliott hasn't been catapulted straight back in, although I do think he'll be in the 17 come game day
Schneider, he had a good run but no one could argue he outplayed Frawley in the last two weeks. Sticky is going on form and again that's understandable

Flu-stricken Canberra Raiders welcome back Jack Wighton and Zac Woolford for Rabbitohs clash in Dubbo
Jack Wighton will resume his spot at five-eighth on Sunday against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Dubbo, but young half Brad Schneider will not be beside him. He has dropped to the extended bench.
"I'm purely giving Brad a spell. He deserves it. It's definitely not a performance thing, if anything it's a reward," coach Ricky Stuart said. "I'm not having him play second-grade this week because his mental and physical workload over the last 10 weeks has been phenomenal. I'm really proud of him.

Apparently, other players have now also come down with the flu.

In defence maybe, but attack? Kris gets on the end of kicks, gets himself in
good position for early shifts wide... I can see the argument
Re: 2022 Rd 11 V Rabbitohs: Teams and Previews
Because Frawley was playing better.
Schneider had a good run and is still a back up half. The Fog will be back soon and honestly, Frawley has produced the goods these last 2 games- more than Schneider has shown for a couple of months now (he had a good game or two early).
Young halves will struggle to back up every week. I've got no problem with Ricky picking who is playing best, especially when the player dropped has has a good stretch of games to develop/show where they are at.

What sort of punish are you running on yourself that you'd watch our whole season and then not watch the last 2 weeksBotman wrote: ↑May 17, 2022, 4:32 pm Without seeing the last two games, i think Frawley is the right move
He provides a similar level of defence but will offer slightly more on the other side of the ball
Schnieder has had a good long run here. He’s done his job as admirably as he could and now it’s time for him to step back and try and work on his game and refine it at a lower level

Yeah for the last 2 weeks most of what our halves did well in attack came from Frawley. Picked himself.Canberra Milk wrote: ↑May 17, 2022, 4:47 pm Interesting. With all the Frawley love over the past couple of weeks, is it still unanimous that it was a mistake to re-sign him? Or just a mistake to re-sign him AND Sammy?

Re: 2022 Rd 11 V Rabbitohs: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
I'm disappointed for Schneider because it would have been only a week or two before he made way for Fogarty in any case. And really we should be trying to develop him as our next long term half so this experience would do him the world of good. If Frawley plays on the left side I'm more understanding.
Really hope Savage gets some minutes and doesn't make way for Elliott however I'm expecting to be disappointed.
Once Fogarty comes back it is arguably our full strength team with Trevilyan and Woolford vying for that one spot. Still think we need a stronger left centre but Kris deserves to stay for now.

I think most (and myself included) felt Wighton, Fog, Schnieder pick your next best was fine
We should have made a call between them. 4 halves in a squad of 30 is reasonable. Especially when you consider injury, covid and Jack’s potential rep duties

Either way he needs a rest, and needs work on his kicking game. I'm 100% behind giving him a spell.
Our team must lead the comp in conceding 7 tackle sets from poor attacking kicks. If Schneider can fix that up and learn when to run the ball he'll be a much better halfback.
He's an outstanding defender in the halves though, and generally has a crisp passing game.

Re: 2022 Rd 11 V Rabbitohs: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
After Wighton got suspended I was really keen to see how our attack adjusted.
It was really pleasing to see both edges get more involved, especially vs Cronulla. I hope we don't revert to looking for Wighton to run the ball on the 4th again, only for our 9 to be clueless as to what to do on the 5th with Jack out of the play.
If Frawley can bring the same short kicking he has the last few weeks, and leave the long kicks to Jacko, then maybe we'll have a decent halves combo out there.
Nice to see CNK hit some confidence and Woolford getting the middles moving without some of the horrendous ball that Starling can dish up on occasion.

Picking Frawley at 7 at this point is a blatantly obvious selection imo. Schneider should be proud of his initial NRL effort but if we're being honest the team has really struggled largely due to no quality output from him honestly.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

I think he's tried hard w/o much football in two years. Remember he was pitched in close to the season opener and it's been a steep learning curve. There's some areas of his game that he could work on. Had some forgettable games v Nth Qld and Warriors, particularly dropping that sitter bomb with 3 mins to go. Blaming him is a bit unfair - the forwards haven't really given him the metres. You cannot expect a rookie to game manage us to victory. But needs to improve decision making as I noticed at times on the weekend he was slow in considering what to do and it doesn't come naturally for him.

It's a perfect time to give him a spell. It's clear to me that has been struggling to run the team for some time now and our attack has suffered as a result.
Still love what the kid has done under trying circumstances. There is a solid player in there.

The ****? He is a kid... Based on your genius POV here a player like Thurston, who was pretty terrible in his first year, would have been sacked and never played after his first couple of months...radicalraider wrote: ↑May 17, 2022, 5:52 pm Hopefully we'll never see Schneider in a Raiders jersey again
Schneider hasn't done anything wrong, he has done a bunch of stuff right and has heaps of potential, never get this attitude some people have with young players...

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Re: 2022 Rd 11 V Rabbitohs: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
Yep the Schneider call is a tough one given he put in an absolute shift on the weekend, but it's the right one. He has shown he can physically compete in the NRL - which is no given for young halves - hopefully he takes confidence from that and goes back and works on his attacking game in reserves. He has a long way to go but can be proud of his efforts these last couple of months.
On a similar note, I'm not a fan of Savage on the bench. If he's not good enough to take the fullback spot outright I'd prefer him playing 80 minutes in reserve grade, rather than spending at least 65 minutes sitting on the bench in firsts. For all the talk throughout the early rounds of the comp of "a plan being in place for him", it's hard to comprehend exactly what said plan is. I'd prefer one that actually has him playing footy.
We can compete in this one. Souths are a fair way off what they've been in recent seasons, hopefully we put in another good showing.

Certainly merit in 80 mins FB experience in reggies every week- all these current juniors are short 18 months footy really.
But we have lost several games in the last few years were we have lost outside backs to injury/HIA and it has been part if not the deciding factor that we lose because unable to mount any sort of attack with makeshift prop/middles at centre instead of an outside back on the bench.
You don't win many games 10-0 anymore. I'm all open to a back on the bench. If it's your hottest young prospect- ok with that. If Savage leapfrogs and we end up with a tough as boots veteran like Rapa or CNK who could do a sting at lock and survive also, ok with that too.
The chance for Scnneider and Kris sure showed up. I think Ricky is backing that it will for Savage also. He's next wing off the rank and I suspect next FB too now, Rapa has done his dash.
