Some interesting points in there. Storm and Sharks 2 top attacking teams, one with the most dummy half runs in the comp, the other with the least.TongueFTW wrote:Thought this was an excellent article and highlights why the Sharks have been so dangerous in attack:

It’s interesting how we started the year well up the rankings in general play passes. We now rank 15, Sharks No. 1. We’ve been falling as we move to a more conservative style, to avoid turnovers of possession. The Sharks style comes with the risk of turnovers, but they are better drilled, have better skills. They are mid table for completions, while the Raiders are close to last. (Fox Sports Lab)

Magicr Round in Sydney is one of the dumbest things I've heard. Any given weekend there's 5-6 games in Sydney. Agree, very interesting article
I would add a bit about the grind strategy. The grind method, or the "pick and drive", would be based mostly around conserving energy and lowering risk. It's inherently conservative, ie: why bother expending energy on all those push supports when you're unlikely to score in any one instance anyway
The Cronulla style also requires skill and football IQ, which your team might not have... otherwise it risks turnovers and poor metres gained. And that was always the Matt Elliott excuse, that he "didn't have the cattle" to play expansive. The grind is the easy way out of all this. Low risk but also low reward. Or as I would call it, cowardly, boring football
It's fantastic to see the Cronulla method working, it's great for the game. I love enterprising, skillful, attacking football

This is not going to end well.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I'm very happy to see Savage on the bench rather than left right out. Now Sticky, you have an opportunity to bring him onto the field in the FB position where he can roam all over the field and choose his time to attack based on what he sees. Last year you allowed him to use his instincts in the No 1 jersey. Give him the same opportunity in 2022.

Absolutely mind boggling the team selections from the coach. Starling and Savage on the bench, when we have been leaking points due to fatigue and having the unfittest forward pack in the competition.

Canberra Raiders' Jarrod Croker replacement named as Cronulla Sharks lose star duo Ramien and Kennedy
The Raiders have named Sebastian Kris and Matt Timoko in the centres for Sunday's Magic Round clash against the Sharks, with the latter shifting to fill the spot vacated by injured left-edge specialist Jarrod Croker.
"It was such a massive relief," fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad said, after it was revealed Croker would only miss 2-3 weeks. "I'm really looking forward to having him back to the team, hopefully not too far in the near future."

I was very impressed with Todd Payten on NRL 360 last night - no wonder NQ are 3rd and going well. Players out of their comfort zone, emphasis on defence (like our 2019 pre season), constantly challenging players like JT13 and not letting their highest paid players dictate the terms (e.g. playing Valentine Holmes at centre).
Humble as well.

Yeah very impressed by what I’ve heard from Todd.
I suspect 3rd is a skewed sample beating up a team that shall remain nameless twice. But good for them.

He did a great job at the Warriors. It has taken him longer to get results at the Cowboys but at least they're trending in the right direction, unlike our club.
