Canberra Raiders stars set to be ruled out of 2022 All Stars game

The annual Indigenous All Stars and Maori All Stars game has been dealt a blow with at least half a dozen big-name players to be ruled out of the February 12 fixture.

Maori All Star players Kalyn Ponga, Jarome Luai, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Corey Harawira-Naera will join Indigenous duo Cody Walker and Jack Wighton in missing the game.

Canberra Raiders Jordan Rapana and Joseph Tapine selected for Maori All Stars

Image

Canberra's Joseph Tapine and Jordan Rapana have been selected for the Māori All Stars. Raiders Māori players Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Corey Harawira-Naera and Indigenous player Jack Wighton were ruled out.

“I’m so thankful to have a group of players who are honoured to represent their culture," said Māori All Stars coach David Kidwell. "This is such an important week for the game and our players recognise this. They will all do what they can to represent themselves, their whanau and their iwi.”

Canberra Raiders' Jordan Rapana set to make NRL All Stars debut

While Canberra Raiders winger Jordan Rapana might have moved to Australia when he was a child, he never forgot where he came from.

"Getting towards the end of my career it could possibly be the last chance I get to play in this so I'm grateful for the opportunity and looking forward to getting out there ... anything more than this is a bonus. My mum always had in our house I'd probably say a shrine dedicated to our Maori heritage. She would have different [things] like a Maori spear, weapons and bits of clothing."

Maori All Star Jordan Rapana says there can be only one Canberra Raiders No.1

He might be the Maori All Stars fullback, but Jordan Rapana says Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad can have the Canberra Raiders No.1 jersey.

"My old legs are done there mate," Rapana said. "I was only there to do a role when we had injuries. I'm back on the wing where I belong and I think that's the best position for me and especially for this team. Charnze is a world-class fullback and I'll leave that up to Charnzey."

I'm just not as excited about the footy being back - at least not as much as I usually am. Usually the early season games aren't that great but the quality of this game has been pretty good the last two years.

Here come the Maori All Stars, led by Joe Tapine and Jordan Rapana right up front too. Now the Indigenous team. Some of the Indigenous players have masks and many have face paint. It looks like all of them will have spears and boomerangs.

Now hear comes the Haka! Joe Tapine now out in front. It is the longest ever haka, and it ends with the Maori team rubbing noses with the opposition. Now the Indigenous war cry. Fantastic all round. A bit too friendly at the end! Now for the game!

Raining very heavily, the crowd is estimated to be around 25,000. Lots of errors to start the game, understandably.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

13th min TRY INDIGENOUS ALL STARS to Jesse Ramien. David Fifita makes multiple tackle breaks 70 metres out, to set it up. Now there's a bit of a dust up. Jordan Rapana placed on report for a late tackle on Fifita, possibly a shoulder charge. Hynes can't convert.

Indigenous All Stars 4-0

17th min TRY MAORI ALL STARS to Joe Tapine close to the posts. The bunker looking at everything, at length. He's scored, just award it. Seriously, they've disallowed it. They say Will Kennedy has put his hand under the ball. NO TRY.

20th min There is an all in, after another clash involving Jordan Rapana. An Indigenous try is stopped, but Rapana hasn't done much. Herbert makes the tackle on Ramien, it is a great one, and Rapana tries to avoid contact.

Andrew Fifita sin binned. Jordan Rapana in the bin as well, and on report, his second report in 20 minutes. Rapana was carrying on like a pork chop as Fifita was sent to the bin, and then Rapana was binned.
