This is ridiculous. Can't wait to see teams get 6again repeatedly until such time as they score a match winning try in the 83rd minute.greeneyed wrote:NRL considering dramatic rule change which would see matches extend past 80 minutes
The NRL are considering a shock rule change which could see the game extend beyond the 80 minute mark and stop teams intentionally giving away set restarts in the dying stages of games with the match in the balance. The NRL will explore the potential of teams having to play out their set of six even if the game clock has elapsed.
That means for example, if you are in possession with just 15 seconds to go before the halftime or full-time siren then the referee will allow you to play out your set regardless if the match clock has expired.

Another ridiculous mooted rule change from the NRL. Simplify the rules. Stop making them more complex!

Re: Rugby League 2022
Just enforce the current rules before you decide to use more unnecessary rules
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

NRL to review captain's challenge but no further action on Wests Tigers loss to Cowboys
The Chairman and CEO of the Wests Tigers met with the Chairman of the ARLC, NRL CEO and NRL Head of Football last week.
The meeting was convened to discuss various aspects of the rulings made in the final minutes of the Wests Tigers and North Queensland Cowboys match on 24 July 2022, being the subject of a formal complaint lodged by Wests Tigers with the NRL.
The NRL has acknowledged the concerns raised by the Wests Tigers and in response has put forward its interpretation of the rules which enabled the Captain's Challenge to be made and the subsequent decision of the Bunker match official.
The NRL has already acknowledged that the Bunker official decision of "escort" was incorrect, leading to the erroneous awarding of a penalty in favour of North Queensland Cowboys which ultimately decided the match.
On the matter of whether the Captain's Challenge was permissible in terms of how the rules were drafted, the NRL and the Wests Tigers expressed differing views and interpretation.
The NRL is comfortable with the interpretation that was applied but has acknowledged, in light of the concerns raised by the Wests Tigers, that the rule needs to be reviewed at the end of the season to provide more clarity so as to ensure that there is no future misunderstanding as to the intent and application of the rule. Wests Tigers will be consulted as part of the review, together with other interested Clubs and stakeholders.
The NRL acknowledges the professional and respectful manner in which the representatives of the Wests Tigers have pursued their concerns on behalf of their Club’s members and fans.
There will be no further consideration in relation to the match of 24 July 2022.

Terribly tragic situation and one we seen way too much
Suicide is obviously an issue that impacts everyone but it's much more prevalent in men. I lost a mate to suicide 2 years ago. And all i can think about at times like this is i wish i reached out more. Its easy to to get "too busy" with life, but dont make that mistake.
We can all be better mates by simply reaching out more and supporting each other.
Us blokes have to normalise talking to each other about how we feel and our emotions. If you're feeling low, please reach out to someone, i promise you there are people that care. If you think your mate is struggling, reach out and let him know you care. If you're a parent, raise your children to know that talking about their feelings and being open emotionally isnt weak or soft. We have to get rid of that mentality.

When news of this nature, suicide, surfaces those closest, those the very closest, say it comes as a surprise.
That friends can perceive that a mate is struggling isn’t so easy to diagnose.A lot of the time a decision to commit suicide is made days or even weeks before it’s carried out and there’s a calmness that emanates from the person.

Very honourable dubby. On this note it's so sad that workers in the mental health space aren't adequately rewarded for the incredibly valuable work they do. It just shows how warped we are as a society, you can have a job with the highest of stakes and your reward is not being able to pay your mortgage.dubby wrote: ↑August 11, 2022, 9:36 pmBotman wrote: ↑August 11, 2022, 8:31 pm Terribly tragic situation and one we seen way too much

I also hate the whole ban on using the word suicide in media, replaced by posting a whole chunk of helplines when a death is clearly suicide. I believe the basis for this is they were historically worried about copycats. Guess what - going by the stats the copycat angle is out of the bag and all it does is further stigmatise mental health issues and suicide as something that should be swept under the carpet and reduced to a footnote of URLs.
RIP Greeny.

Can I add one thought? As I get older, the more I understand that what you're feeling now is temporary. Give it a week, or a month or a year and you'll be a new person in an entirely different place in your life. Suicide is a dumb, permanent solution to what is always a temporary situation.
I wish I could have explained that to a few people in my life.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Strongly agree with this. As tragic as this story is, it can serve to remind people not only to seek support if they need it, but also to be more compassionate and reach out to people to show how important they are to you. That lesson is undermined when the media dance around the topic and stick to a shallow and repetitive script of citing numbers for Lifeline and Beyond Blue (as important as those services are).Roger Kenworthy wrote: ↑August 11, 2022, 9:55 pm I also hate the whole ban on using the word suicide in media, replaced by posting a whole chunk of helplines when a death is clearly suicide. As I get older, the more I understand that what you're feeling now is temporary. Give it a week, or a month or a year and you'll be a new person in an entirely different place in your life. Suicide is a dumb, permanent solution to what is always a temporary situation.
I wish I could have explained that to a few people in my life.

And I thought that because Paul Green to me has always seemed like someone who looked very sad behind the eyes. Have a look at any video or picture of him, even when he's smiling he just looks sad behind the eyes.
It's so tragic to me that somebody can genuinely hurt that much, and not be able to find the necessary tools and help to dig themselves out of it and enjoy life, because life is truly special. He had a wife and children, it was the day after one of his kids' birthdays, it's all just such an unnecessary tragedy.

Thanks Daniel. Much appreciated.
Nickman, that is very insightful. He definitely lacked a light in his eyes. Maybe he has been carrying some heavy burdens for a very long time.
Just on this subject, and it is quite ironic.....I had a phone call from a former GF late last night. She is having all sorts of personal problems and last night drank too much and called me for support. At one point she point blank said there was no point anymore. It scared me. But I am glad she said something, than be silent and go through with it.
Like Nick/pig/bot said.......we blokes need to speak up and reach out.

In my mind at one stage suicide was also a tool to inflict pain on those that I felt had wronged me, that's a long time ago and I couldn't be more relieved that a temporary situation didn't cost me everything.
The pain doesn't go on those that wrong you it goes on those that love you

Re: Rugby League 2022
This news has just taken me back 3 years ago when a mate at work took his life. I still think of him, and wish I knew what he was going through so I could reach out to him.
I saw an thread on Reddit a while ago. This poster was asking “Why are you still alive?” One response was because they couldn’t handle the thought of their pets not knowing why they didn’t come home. Seeing that reply really hit me. So any time I go through a really hard time, I think of that response, and look at Mack and Cheese.
And Dubs, know if you ever to talk to someone, I’m here also. You’ve been a soundboard for me before, so know I’m here for you mate.
