Re: 2022 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
Bad news about the injuries, hopefully both aren't as serious as expected.
For those that saw the game, who played well?

I saw Harry as he left the field. It was pretty gruesome. It looks serious.Crash Ball wrote: ↑July 9, 2022, 7:54 pm Bad news about the injuries, hopefully both aren't as serious as expected.

Both Harry and Trey were going well before their injuries.
Tom Starling played the whole game and looked pretty good, set up one try.
Ata Mariota scored a double, as did Asomua. Asomua really is a talent.
Elijah Anderson impressed at fullback, strong runner, while Hopoate produced some good defence.
Matt Frawley got a try, he was fine. NSW Cup is his level, though his kicking could have been better. Brad Schneider really needs first grade time to develop.
CHN did some good things, but undid them with lack of discipline at others.

Thanks Greeneyed.
Re: 2022 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
CNH looked really good once he started having a crack.
Semi also got injured (leg from a collision) and was not having a good game prior to that either.
I have to say though Emre Guler looked pretty good today too.
You'd have to think he'd get a run in first grade somewhere if Ricky has now deemed him surplus to his requirements.
Also when you see Matt Lodge up close at ground level he is a scary looking individual.
That poor family in NYC must have truly been terrified.

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders have moved into third place on the NSW Cup competition ladder, after defeating the fourth placed North Sydney Bears, 30-16, at Kippax on Saturday. They have now won four straight, including matches against the top two teams on the ladder, the Panthers and Jets.
The Raiders were reshuffled late, with Elijah Anderson moving to fullback, while Brad Schneider was included at five eighth and Tom Starling at hooker. James Schiller, returning from a shoulder injury, was also added on the wing. Matt Lodge, newly signed by the Sydney Roosters, was a late inclusion for the Bears.
The Bears were the first to score through five eighth Sandon Smith, inside the first five minutes. It took until the 20th minute for the Raiders to strike back, with prop Ata Mariota charging over near the posts, off a Tom Starling pass. Just five minutes later, Trey Mooney charged down a kick, regathered and produced an extraordinary burst of acceleration. It looked like he might tear away and score, but he quickly pulled up with an ankle injury, standing and offloading. That put Mooney out of the game, but it gave the Raiders a great attacking opportunity - with Michael Asomua crossing out wide. A try to North Sydney fullback Kieran Hayman ensured the Bears went to half time trailing by only two points, 12-10.
Six minutes into the second half, the Bears took a six point lead after a big break down the northern touchline - with second rower Joshua Wong backing up on the inside. Things started to look a little grim when prop Harry Rushton left the field with a suspected broken jaw, 10 minutes into the half. But a second try to Michael Asomua quickly turned the mood. He took possession on the sideline, and then ran cross field searching for a hole. He found one, slicing through, close to the posts. The Schneider conversion saw the Raiders take back the lead.
The Raiders went further ahead in the 62nd minute, when halfback Matt Frawley threw a dummy and a hole in the Bears' defensive line opened up for him. The home team sealed the victory with three minutes remaining. A huge run from Corey Harawira-Naera gave the Raiders their chance - with Ata Mariota running it on the last tackle from close range and scoring the four pointer.
It was an impressive win for the Raiders, but it could also be very costly given the injuries to two of the team's best forwards, Rushton and Mooney.
Emre Guler (187) topped the running metres gained for the Raiders, with fellow forwards Ata Mariota (162) and Corey Harawira-Naera (147) also breaking the 100 metres gained mark. In the backs, Elijah Anderson ran for 160 metres with the ball in hand, while Michael Asomua (134) also topped 100 metres gained. Tom Starling topped the tackle count (38), followed by Guler (31), Harawira-Naera (28) and Harry Rushton (28). Tom Starling was credited with three try assists. Michael Asomua posted nine tackle breaks and Elijah Anderson eight.
The Raiders' opponents this week, Mounties, are coming off a 46-14 defeat in a clash with the second placed Newtown Jets. They have, however, produced a couple of recent wins against the Dragons (41-40) and Sea Eagles (20-10). The recent form lines and all the numbers point to a Raiders win in this one - but Canberra is likely to be again disrupted by injuries. Hopefully, they can make it five in a row.
Team news: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad has been named at fullback, with Elijah Anderson shifting to the wing. Michael Asomua has dropped out. Steven Numambo comes in on the other wing, with James Schiller promoted to first grade. Brad Morkos has been named at centre, in place of the injured Semi Valemei. Brad Schneider will be 18th man in first grade, with Josh James replacing him at five eighth.
In the forwards, Adrian Trevilyan is back at hooker, with last week's late inclusion, Tom Starling lining up on the bench in firsts. Peter Hola and Juwan Compain are the new starting props, with Ata Mariota and Emre Guler set to Melbourne as reserves in the first grade squad. Mitchell Spencer replaces Trey Mooney (ankle) in the second row, while Clay Webb has been named in place of Harry Rushton (fractured jaw).
Jed Stuart, Josh Allen, Caleb Tohi and Joshua Baker are all new inclusions on the bench.

Re: 2022 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
Not sure it was mentioned but looking at the ladder it seems a draw got awarded for the Dragons game.
Re: 2022 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
Going into last week, the Raiders were seventh, now including a point for the cancelled game, that’s been revised to fifth in the Round 16 ladder.Crash Ball wrote: ↑July 11, 2022, 10:02 am Not sure it was mentioned but looking at the ladder it seems a draw got awarded for the Dragons game.

It is even worse for Flegg, as a whole pile of the Flegg players appear to have been promoted to NSW Cup... and they've been concurrently named in the Flegg team. I'd expect the NSW Cup team's needs will prevail.

Re: 2022 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
So does that mean Mariota will definitely travel to Melbourne or they could still swap players around? If so, he could be an outside chance to debut if Papalii doesn't back up. He must be just about due.
Re: 2022 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
The key restrictions are on the NRL squad, they need enough first grade players in Melbourne to cover for COVID (squads of 22 and 19). They'll go down on Saturday, I'd expect, so they'd want to take the 22 named players. They need players in Melbourne for Flegg and NRL, and players for NSW Cup in Sydney. Theoretically, Schneider, Mariota and Hopoate can play Flegg (I think, as they are still all aged 21). But Schneider is 18th man. They're clearly struggling to name three full teams.Crash Ball wrote: ↑July 12, 2022, 6:02 pm So does that mean Mariota will definitely travel to Melbourne or they could still swap players around? MATCH REPORT: Abbey sinks Raiders with last play try
A Brad Abbey try in the final minute has secured Mounties an upset 20-18 victory over the Canberra Raiders in an epic Round 18 The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup contest at Aubrey Keech Reserve.
The 10th placed Mounties outshone an undermanned Raiders for much of the match yet trailed by two-points as the final seconds counted down. It was left to Abbey to roll the dice, and the five-eighth iced the clutch play when he chased his own grubber in-goal before juggling a Raider fumble to secure the unlikely win.

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders suffered a last gasp, 20-18, loss to Mounties on Sunday afternoon in Sydney, with former Raider Brad Abbey scoring the winning try in the final minute. The Raiders team was full of inexperienced players at NSW Cup level, with the club as a whole hammered by injuries and illness. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad succumbed to a hamstring problem during the week, while Corey Harawira-Naera and Albert Hopoate were late call ups to the NRL team. Lock Josh Allen and benchie Jed Stuart made their NSW Cup debuts.
Mounties led for a good part of the first half, with centre Tim Simona and second rower Haimona Hiroti scoring tries within the first 20 minutes of the game. Canberra prop Peter Hola produced his own four pointer in the 17th minute, grounding the ball right beside the posts. And with three minutes to the break, a Josh James cross field kick produced a try to winger Steven Numambo. The Raiders took a narrow 12-10 lead to half time. Twelve minutes into the second half, Mounties took back the lead courtesy of a try to centre Semisi Kioa. Canberra again edged ahead when Adrian Trevilyan ran from dummy half, scoring beside the posts with just over 10 minutes remaining.
Sadly, for the young Green Machine, in the final minute Brad Abbey kicked to the corner, and the Raiders were unable to defuse in the in goal. Abbey chased and was there to take advantage.
The Raiders have dropped to fifth place on the ladder and now face the third placed Canterbury Bulldogs at home in Round 19. It is part of a triple header at Canberra Stadium. The Bulldogs are coming off a 20-10 victory over the Rabbitohs at Stadium Australia on Sunday, with Jeral Skelton and Matt Dufty both scoring doubles. It is not all rosy for the Dogs, as they have also had recent losses to the Panthers (22-12) and Jets (28-16). There is not much between the teams in terms of their attacking records, but the Dogs have the better defence. Hopefully the Green Machine can reverse the big defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs in Round 2 in Sydney.
Team news: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad (hamstring) has been named at fullback, after he was a late withdrawal last week. Head coach Ricky Stuart has said he wants CNK to get a full game in NSW Cup as he makes his comeback from injury. Elijah Anderson shifts into the centres, while Michael Asomua returns on the wing. Half Brad Schneider and prop Ata Mariota return to NSW Cup, after playing Flegg in Melbourne last Sunday. Juwan Compain drops back to the bench. The Raiders have failed to name a full squad, with four spots still to be filled. The club has been significantly affected by COVID and injuries.

The spine might get us home. Tough game otherwise.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Re: 2022 Canberra Raiders NSW Cup
3rd min TRY RAIDERS to Elijah Anderson in the corner. The Frawley pass nearly intercepted by Okunbor… but didn’t and that created more space for Anderson. Brad Schneider converts from the sideline.

15th min TRY RAIDERS to Matt Frawley, he just runs straight up the middle! Almost unchallenged. Great run from Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad in the lead up in that set. Brad Schneider converts from in front.

19th min TRY RAIDERS to Adrian Trevilyan, going himself out of dummy half. Josh Allen the decoy, and some defenders fell for it. Brad Schneider converts from close to the posts.

Well this is getting embarrassing for the dogs. Our reserve reserves are rampaging.

25th min TRY RAIDERS to Brad Schneider off the scrum play. He just kept running and running from 15 metres out. Biondi-Odo can’t stop him. Schneider on the sidelines… misses the goal.

36th min TRY BULLDOGS to Biondi-Odo. Okunbor made a break, the Raiders take the loose pass, but it is a poor decision from CNK to pass… it rebounds off Anderson… try Dogs. Converted.
