They have a super league for hockey in India, similar to the IPL

It's pretty big over there.

India have a population over a billion. No suprises they conjure up 11 players better than we can. Really, they did well to make it this far.
Yeah but they all play cricket. Their hockey team comes from a pool of 12.
That's not true. Obviously in India, cricket is king, but hockey is very popular and India has proud hockey tradition at the Olympics
Yep. India and Pakistan are Hockey mad, we just don't see it. Grays even named one of their sticks the Karachi King and stuck with the name for decades. I had kevlar fibreglass one. Great for smashing clearances and accidentally hitting forwards in the shins.

Australia's Harry Garside through to the medal rounds in the Lightweight boxing. Worst he can get is a bronze medal. Well done to the plumber from Melbourne.

Guilty. I've had mine plenty as well though. Somehow did not fracture my ankle when this huge peanut from Central hit the ball with a golf swing (dangerous play) straight into it. I've also been run over (guy from Old Canberrans shoulder charged me then stomped over me to follow play. Was was obviously penalised).

In my case, it's just self defence really.

I'll also spare you the Anakin Skywalker sand memes and just say that playing on sand-based astroturf was no different to being thrown in a pit of ill-tempered feral cats. Every fall = cuts and more cuts. Lyneham upgraded all of the fields to water-based after I stopped playing. Naturally.

That was a seriously close fight. I was actually expecting the decision to go the other way. Both boxers made a good case so not going to argue with the decision.

Agreed NR, it was a close fought contest but with my Green and Gold eyes I thought the decision went the right way. Very strong weight category so the bouts have been competitive.

Qantas won't need much fuel to get home at this rate.

You could see Garside was a lot more focused in this bout. None of that dropping the hands and weaving the head we saw in his earlier bouts. Clearly respected his opponent a lot more. Has to step up another level for his next bout against a 2 time world champ.

GOLD in the men's kayaking! K2 1000m.

And one in skateboarding for Keegan Palmer, at age 18.

17 gold medals... equal with Athens as Australia's greatest ever Olympics gold medal tally.

New details emerge over ‘excessively drunk’ Aussie Olympians’ wild flight home

Australia is holding fire on disciplining a group of drunk athletes who misbehaved on a return flight from the Tokyo Olympics. Australia’s rugby sevens and soccer players were the ringleaders in the unruly flight which left Tokyo last Thursday night, arriving in Sydney the following morning.

At least one drunk footballer vomited in the plane’s toilet, which couldn’t be used again during the 10-hour flight.

Read more: https://7news.com.au/sport/olympics/dru ... ULwyBfJkD0

Looks like the two sides had a drinking comp to compensate for their on field failures.

Watching the Hockey. It brings back traumatic memories as a kid.

My sister played state level, and I was pumped to continue the Hockey tradition. Went to the trials in 1st Grade, and the coach wouldn’t let me play. Told me because I was left handed, it would be too hard to learn to play right handed.

Still haunts me. I coulda been somebody
