25th min ERROR MAGPIES They can’t take the Sam Gash kick. Siamani Leuluai has a leg injury… he’s one of the best, so he’d be a big loss if he can’t continue. He’s staying on, but doesn’t look good.

37th min PENALTY MAGPIES Noah Martin ruled to be a double marker… and it’s the wrong call. Followed up by a red zone penalty to the Magpies. Again the Magpies can’t complete on the try line.

There’s a dust up, the siren goes. The Magpies player fell to the ground, the Raiders fall on him, and the Magpies took exception. Now the Magpies bench players run on the field before the game is over! 14, 11 and 16 will be sent off... and this serious for the Magpies. All three Magpies benchies sent off!

PENALTY RAIDERS after the siren. Three players sent off, from the bench, after illegally entering the field. The Raiders should put in a protest…

Bad luck boys, you have had a great season.

Based on what?

Clearly those three players did not participate in the play. They were sent off and the Raiders received a penalty. The Raiders then had one last play and to be honest they were a deer in the headlights.

Whether those players get suspended for the GF I don’t know but there will be no overturning the result.

MATCH REPORT: Heartbreak for Canberra Raiders in Harold Matthews

The Canberra Raiders' hearts were broken in the Harold Matthews semi-final on Saturday afternoon, defeated in extra time, 20-16. The teams were tied up at 14 all at the end of regulation time, forcing an extra 10 minutes of play. The Green Machine took a two point lead four minutes into extra time, but a Magpies try to hooker Tallyn Da Silva with two minutes remaining was the match winner.

The game finished in extraordinary circumstances - with a scuffle breaking out right on full time. Three Magpies bench players ran onto the field to get involved. Jeremiah Leatigaga, Kohan Lewis and Thomas Pati were all sent off - and a penalty awarded to the Raiders after the siren had sounded. Remarkably, the Magpies were permitted to keep 13 men on the field for the final play - and the Raiders could do nothing but put up a fruitless bomb.

The big Magpies forwards started the game strongly and things looked a little ominous. But by the fifth minute, the Raiders had worked their way downfield and Raiders hooker Xavier Cacciotti crossed the line. It looked like a try to everyone, but the referee - and the Magpies took advantage. They promptly went the length of the field, with a try to half Luke Keppie producing a 6-0 lead for the minor premiers.

The Raiders' response was to knuckle down and defend stoutly. And they were next to score. In the 22nd minute, half Noah Marcantonio put up a bomb to the try line. The Magpies could not defuse the kick, and second rower Noah Martin was there to recover the ball and crash over the line. Martin looked like he'd scored again, four minutes later, but was ruled to be held up.

The Magpies gave away repeated penalties in the final stages of the first half - and one right on half time. The Wests captain was cautioned - and Sam Gash kicked a penalty goal after the siren. It gave Canberra an 8-6 lead at the break.

The Magpies started the second half with renewed vigour and took back the lead in the 35th minute - after second rower Lachlan Galvin ran wide and scored in the corner. The Raiders again steadied, and Siamani Leuluai produced some outstanding defence to save a try in the 44th minute - taking Wests winger Tajh Colquhoun over the sideline in the corner.

In the 47th minute, Magpies prop Jordan Miller gave two penalties away in a row, and was put on report for a high tackle. He stayed on the field - and the Raiders turned down the chance to take a penalty goal from virtually in front. It paid off, with Raiders captain Owen Hromow charging to the line. He broke out of a tackle - and went again to get the four points. That saw the Raiders take a 14-10 lead.

But just three minutes later, the Magpies struck back. Second rower Lachlan Galvin was standing unmarked on the touch line on the last tackle - and the wide pass produced an easy four pointer. The Magpies could not convert - resulting in a frantic final eight minutes. With a minute left, Raiders five eighth Sam Chapman missed a field goal attempt and the match ultimately went into extra time - setting it up for the heartbreaking, controversial finish.

The Raiders Harold Matthews team took the wooden spoon last year - and they have performed remarkably well to get to a Grand Final qualifier in 2022. They certainly did not look outclassed by the much vaunted minor premiers - and the result could have easily swung the other way.

There are a number of good prospects in this team, including props Mathias Tomuli-Ah-Koui and Elvis Nauer-Wood, second rower Noah Martin, lock Owen Hromow, five eighth Sam Chapman, centre Siamani Leuluai and fullback Sam Gash. Better times are ahead.

Western Suburbs Magpies 20 (Lachlan Galvin 2, Luke Keppie, Tallyn Da Silva tries, Tajh Colquhoun 2 goals) defeated Canberra Raiders 16 (Noah Martin, Owen Hromow tries, Sam Gash 4 goals), Kogarah Jubilee Stadium.

Noah Martin the Harold Matthews player of the year in my view. Mitch Prest the player of the year in SG Ball, again, in my view.
