When you have 3 players taking up about a quarter of the salary cap it's tough to make ends meet. Also doesn't help if your No. 1 hooker decides to shank somebody (allegedly) at a church disco.

Out of everyone listed I think Cust will be starting at 9.

Manly are a tough team, underrated. Always seem to beat the Raiders as well.

They'll be up there again, very little depth though. If Tommy Turbo can't stay fit, they will be in some trouble.

He'd need to get a Top 30 contract first.

Levi leaves Knights to take up Manly offer

Danny Levi will link with Manly on a one-year deal immediately after securing a six-figure payout from the final season of his Knights contract.

Levi's arrival at the Sea Eagles has been anticipated for much of the summer given Newcastle's willingness to entertain a 2020 release and Manly's need for depth at hooker.

About the best they could hope for given their cap the players available.

NRL finds Manly Sea Eagles player Addin Fonua-Blake breached Anti-Vilifcation Code

National Rugby League Acting Chief Executive Andrew Abdo has determined that Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Player Addin Fonua-Blake has breached the game's Anti-Vilification Code.

"What happened on Sunday was divisive and against the fabric of what we stand for as a game," he said.

"There is no place for comments like that in our game. Sport is about bringing people and communities together and we pride ourselves on being an inclusive game for everyone.

"Now that the Match Review process is complete, I want to speak directly with Addin and the Club about the incidents before determining any penalty.

"This is more than a simple sanction. It's important there is an education and rehabilitation component to issues like this to ensure players learn from these mistakes and realise the impact of their actions on the community."

Mr Abdo reaffirmed the game had a zero-tolerance approach for abuse of match officials.

"Our match officials have the toughest and most scrutinised job in the game. Decisions are always going to have an element of controversy but there is no excuse for abuse of any kind aimed at our officials. It will not be tolerated,'' he said.

"I want to thank and congratulate all our officials who have adapted to significant rule changes this season."

If you use slurs, terms that aim to put others down, in this case people with disabilities, in your everyday life... it is not OK. It says something about you as a person and the values you hold.

The slurs he's used are the more serious offence. Both are unacceptable. Having listened to the video, he's still not entirely getting it... he had to be led down the path bit, by bit, by bit.

Paul Gallen and Phil Gould seemed to think on 100% Footy last night that if the comments were not recorded by the broadcaster, there'd be no problem. With those two, it doesn't surprise me. They certainly don't get it. Gallen has form, of course.

Hopefully, significant further suspension will be handed down to Fonua-Blake.

Addin Fonua-Blake fined and required to undertake volunteer work

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles player Addin Fonua-Blake will be a volunteer referee in wheelchair rugby league and pay a $20,000 fine for use by a wheelchair rugby league club for breaching the National Rugby League’s (NRL) Anti-Vilification Code.

Acting Chief Executive Andrew Abdo will also recommend to the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) that Match Review Committee guidelines be changed to include a mandatory referral to the judiciary for serious abuse or intimidation of match officials.

Mr Abdo made the determination today after he met with Fonua-Blake, Sea Eagles Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys and coach Des Hasler on Thursday afternoon.

Fonua-Blake will pay the full $20,000 fine which will be donated to Wheelchair Rugby League Australia to buy new wheelchairs. He will also donate his time to refereeing during the season to gain a better understanding and respect of disability groups.

The practical component of the penalty will commence once COVID-19 biosecurity protocols are eased. The penalty under the Anti-Vilification Code is in addition to the two-match suspension handed down by the Match Review Committee after Sunday’s match against the Newcastle Knights.

Fonua-Blake pleaded guilty to a Grade 3 Contrary Conduct charge. Mr Abdo said the additional penalty was designed to drive change.

“The focus of this penalty is about rehabilitation and education, it’s not punitive. I do not believe Addin missing more matches will enhance his understanding or respect for people with a disability, but embarking on a program such as this will have a lifelong impact on his thinking,’’ he said.

“I see this as an opportunity to provide positive change for Addin and his experiences will also rub off on the broader playing group. Increasing the suspension is an easy decision but what is more important is driving change in attitudes. Sport has a responsibility to drive community change.”

Mr Abdo reiterated the NRL stood for inclusivity. He said vilification of any group or race would not be tolerated.

“Ignorance is not an excuse for the responsibility our professional players carry. There is no tolerance for comments like we witnessed on Sunday,’’ he said.

“Rugby league breaks down social barriers and gives everyone an opportunity to participate. Inclusivity is the foundation of our game.”

Mr Abdo said he would seek the Commission’s approval to ensure stronger penalties for abuse of match officials.

“Abuse of match officials is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. A mandatory referral to the judiciary for any matters of abuse will ensure penalties meet community expectations,’’ he said.

“Our match officials have the toughest job in the game and there is absolutely no tolerance for abuse towards them.”

Better outcome than simply piling on a suspension.
