2019 Highs and Lows: Tackle/Hit of the Year

2019 Highs and Lows: Tackle/Hit of the Year

Every year, the readers of The Greenhouse vote on the highs and lows of the season just past. 2019 was a year when the highs well outweighed the lows. But, sadly, it was missing the ultimate high. The Player of the Year and Best Back and Forward are determined by the Fans' Choice voting, but all the other categories are determined by fan polls.

In this poll we are voting for the Canberra Raiders 2019 Tackle/Hit of the Year. Classic tackles, try savers, big hits... You have one vote in this poll. If you would like to vote for a try that is not nominated... just specify your vote for the game in the thread!

NRL.com best try savers of 2019: https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/10/22/the ... 19-season/

The nominations are:

Round 2 V Storm: Jordan Rapana: Jordan Rapana was really still feeling his way in his first game back after shoulder surgery. However, he produced a great moment in defence when he lined up Will Chambers in the 19th minute. What a hit! (Rd 2 video: 1:23 min mark, NRL best hits: 1:26 min mark)

Round 5 V Eels: Sia Soliola: Canberra's spiritual leader pulled off the tackle of the match in the Raiders' clash with the Eels just before half time, smashing Jaeman Salmon. (Rd 5 video: 2:56 min mark)

Round 5 V Eels: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad: This is hardly a classic tackle, but it sure saved a try. Marita Nuikore made a break and looked certain to cross, but CNK just got a hand to him and it was enough to stop four points. (Rd 5 video: 3:00 min mark. NRL try savers: 0:35 min mark)

Round 8 V Panthers: Josh Papalii: Josh Papalii on Nathan Cleary. That's a hit! (NRL best hits: 1:03 min mark)

Round 12 v Bulldogs: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad: In the final minute, the Bulldogs were desperately attacking, trailing by two points. Kieran Foran swept the ball to the left and Marcello Montoya charged down the sideline. Then came the moment of the match, when Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad lined him up, hitting him in a beautiful tackle and taking him over the sideline. It was a stunning tackle, a match saver. (Rd 12 video: 5:00 min mark)

Round 13 V Tigers: Bailey Simonsson: There was some great defence from the Raiders in this match, but Bailey Simonsson was particularly good. In the 35th minute, the Tigers made a break through Corey Thompson, and the attack was rampaging. They sent the ball wide to Esan Marsters and he looked certain to score. But Simonsson produced a great tackle, stopping the ball, stopping the man, and held him up over the line. Try saver! (Rd 13 video: 3:14 min mark. NRL try savers: 1:49 min mark)

Round 18 V Tigers: Aidan Sezer: The Tigers trailed by eight points as the clock ticked down, but the Tigers were throwing everything they had in attack at the Raiders. With three minutes remaining, Tigers winger Paul Momirovski made a break, kicked ahead and Michael Chee Kam regathered. However Aidan Sezer was chasing just as hard and wrapped him up in an incredible, desperate tackle. (Rd 18 video: 3:44 min mark)

Round 22 V Storm: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad Early in the match Jack Wighton in the bin, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad produced a brilliant try saver. Though Melbourne scored shortly afterwards, they had to kick to get through. It was a great effort from a determined and resilient player. (NRL try savers: 2:20 min mark)

Round 23 V Sea Eagles: Jarrod Croker: Jarrod Croker scored all 14 points for the Green Machine in this match. But perhaps his best moment came in the 27th minute - when he produced an amazing try saving tackle on Reuben Garrick, dislodging the ball. Terrific one one one tackle. (Rd 23 video: 2:52 min mark)

Finals Week 1 V Storm: Joe Tapine: Possibly the most crucial tackle of the season, with Joe Tapine dislodging the ball from the Storm in the red zone... creating the opportunity for the winning John Bateman try. (Finals Wk 1 video: 8:03 min mark)

Finals Week 3 V Rabbitohs: Joe Tapine: Early in the Preliminary Final, Adam Doueihi gathers up a kick... and is absolutely smashed by Joe Tapine. (Preliminary Final video: 2:08 min mark)

Finals Week 3 V Rabbitohs: Josh Hodgson: A brilliant try saver from the co-captain. Hodgson makes the tackle and strips the ball. (Preliminary Final video: 3:32 min mark. NRL try savers: 3:20 min mark)

Joe Tapine's tackle was the most crucial of the year, perhaps. But nowhere near the best tackle.
