Quite few names there we'd recognise in SG Ball... including some of the higher profile recruits. But new ones too. Looking forward to seeing how they go next year. Lots seem to be from the three regional districts. It's great how Monaro and Riverina have been so closely integrated.

Vandenburg is another handy signing from Brisbane. Outside back who has been a regular in the rep scene for QLD all throughout juniors.

Cherrypickers trio named in Canberra Raiders representative squads

Cherrypicker twin brothers Brock and Clay Sing have been named in the Harold Matthews (under 16s), while Harry Fitzpatrick was selected in the SG Ball (under 18s) squad ahead of the 2020 season. They are three of nine youngsters from the Riverina area to be included in the Raiders representative squads.

"It is great," Peter Mulholland said. "There won't be many cuts made from that so those boys have a good chance.

Apparently junior reps trials today at Kirkham Park Camden, with SG Ball reportedly big winners against Western Suburbs Magpies... while the Magpies "did enough" to win against the Raiders in Harold Matthews. Canberra Raiders were winners over Wests Tigers in Tarsha Gale Cup.

Monaro Colts also defeated GSR Wests Tigers in Laurie Daley Cup trial and were big winners over the GSR Wests Tigers in Andrew Johns Cup.

I probably wouldn't have driven to Camden for these, but it would be nice if the club told us about the lower grade trials...

Sing brothers crack Canberra Raiders Harold Matthews squad

Sing siblings Brock and Clay have secured spots in Canberra Raiders' Harold Matthews under 16s squad for the upcoming 2020 season.

"They're great lads. I'm not surprised at all because they're very talented players," Cherrypickers first grade coach Nick Hall said. "They're both very committed, they're doing a lot of extras outside training and have a lot of support from their family, who are all good athletes as well. They have great genetics and great work ethics.

The 17-year-old was one of 34 talented teens picked for the Queensland Under 18 Emerging Origin squad that got together for a camp at the Sunshine Coast at the weekend.

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders Tarsha Gale Cup finished in eighth in 2019, winning just two games - against the Roosters and Bulldogs. They finished on a six game losing streak. But the start of a new season brings new hope. They meet the Parramatta Eels - who finished fifth last season and knocked the Green Machine out of the finals in Week 1. The Eels had seven wins in 2019, progressing as far as Week 2 of the finals, when they came up against the minor premiers, the Illawarra Steelers. Parramatta won three of their final five games of 2019. The Raiders lost both encounters against the Eels in 2019 - 32-14 in Round 1 at Belconnen, and 48-4 in the Qualifying Final at HE Laybutt Field.

14. Terrence Lafai 15. Movete Otoota 16. Saxon Pryke 17. Raffaele De Stradis

18. Genesis Talagi Seuala

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders Harold Matthews team produced an 11th placed finish last season, with a 2 and 6 record. The Raiders posted a LLWLL form line in their final five games of 2019. The Parramatta Eels also missed the finals last season, finishing ninth (4 and 4). The two teams did not meet over the past two seasons. The Eels won the past two encounters between the clubs in 2016 (Round 6, 34-22) and 2017 (Round 4, 26-6) - but in this competition, that's almost ancient history. Canberra has not made the Harold Matthews finals since 2017, but the Green Machine will be looking to turn that around with a new crop of players in 2020.

18. Tutonu Junior Wright 19. Francis Faaofo Tuitino 20. Drew Lloyd 21. Jordan Tapusoa 22. David Langi

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders finished sixth on the ladder in SG Ball in 2019, posting a 5 and 3 record. They won their first finals clash, 34-10 against the seventh placed Tigers. But they were then knocked out of the finals race in Week 2, losing to the Central Coast Roosters, 46-16, at Kogarah Jubilee Stadium. The Parramatta Eels finished in the top four in this grade in 2019, but they were eliminated in Week 3 of the finals by the eventual premiers, the Illawarra Steelers.

As in Harold Matthews, these two teams have not met since 2017 - with the Eels taking the last two encounters. Canberra finished last season on a WWLWL form line - while the Eels won two of their final five games of the year (LWLWL).

There is a bit of excitement around some of the Raiders' recruits for SG Ball this season. Trey Mooney, formerly with the Eels, has been named at lock, with Jayden Clarkson at prop and Caleb Esera in the second row. It will be our first opportunity to see these well publicised recruits in green. There should be plenty of supporters on hand, given the club's Fan Day is to be staged in the morning at the ground.

22nd min TRY RAIDERS to centre Siamani Leuluai. What a try, an intercept and ran 80 Or 90 metres to score. It’s been a struggle but the Raiders deserve to be in front. Most of the play in the Eels half. No conversion.

59th min TRY EELS to winger Suliasi Aho. He was wrapped up but somehow struggled free, to crash over out wide. He cannot convert his own try.

16th min TRY EELS on their first real opportunity... to fullback Tyrone Sau. They had him tackled but he went again. Elusive stepper. Half Josh Chappell converts.

23rd min TRY EELS to Tyrone Sau, his second for the match. Two great offloads set it up for the EeLs. Chappell converts. All of a sudden...

41st min Raiders take the penalty shot at goal. The ground has been lashed by wind and rain, but it’s cleared quickly.

PENALTY GOAL RAIDERS to Junior Tupou.
