Also a big shout out to channel 9.

Exclusive rights and the stream failed to work at all early, couldn’t cast to my television, and the picture quality was abominable.

The commentary team isn’t the only facet stuck in the past.

10. JOSH PAPALII - 6.5

Failed to get in the game in the first half but showed why he’s an important tone-setter for the Maroons in the second.

Just something I heard on the radio last night post game.

Dane Gagai has scored 11 tries in 11 Origin games for QLD..phenomenal !!

But in 90 odd NRL games he's scored 10 tries for Newcastle and Souths combined.

Oh and Rickhead...that's enough from you pal !!

Are people actually blaming Cotric for the Oates try when Morris ran in to tackle the second rower?

Keary has been stood down by the Roosters for 6 weeks to recover from concussions.

They don't want MPearce ruining Kearys Origin career either..

Yeah watching it again, it was embarrassing defence from Josh Morris. He was good in the first half, but lost his way after that.

2. Nick Cotric: Did nothing wrong in first half but came in too far and opened up space for Corey Oates to score the Maroons first try. Limited opportunities in attack and looked to pick up a leg injury in the second term. 6

14. Jack Wighton: Sent into the game by Brad Fittler with 25 minutes to go and had a kick charged down and threw an intercept pass which Dane Gagai swooped on to score. 4.5

Ouch, Cotric deserved at least an 7 or even an 8. Can't argue with Jack's score, considering he was an impact player. Can we have a rating for Fitler as coach though? Surely a 4 or 5? When sections of teams were failing he did nothinf, until too late.
News.com.au wrote this about Jack

JACK WIGHTON: Limited minutes off the bench and threw the intercept for Gagai’s matchwinning try. Not an ideal debut from the utility. His intercept pass also came on just the third tackle of the set for the Blues — who clearly didn’t need to force the issue when Wighton lost the plot.

Am I being biased in a sense I thought Jack looked sharp when he came on and was the only one who looked like breaking the line? As he threw the intercept pass he created an overlap out of nothing. I think there being a little harsh on Jack. He was worthy of a 4.5 but that was due to only having minimal minutes

if he didnt throw the intercept, he would have scored a 6. He threw it, so its 100% on him. Hopefully he wipes his tears and gets on with it. We'll have to wait and see how he rebounds on Friday night!

I thought Kaufusi was impressive all night. It was an offload from him to Ponga and then the wide ball to Oates which got him into a position to score the Qld opening try. I don't know that Nic did too much wrong. More the skills of Kaufusi and Ponga which created the opportunity.

Phil Gould is ruthlessly mocked for extraordinary claim as he calls the State of Origin opener

Phil Gould has been ruthlessly mocked for an extraordinary claim while commentating the State of Origin opener. Speaking during Nine's live coverage of the opening match of the series on Wednesday evening, Gould declared: 'This is the best football stadium in the world.' The match is being played at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium which holds a maximum of 52,500 sporting fans.

Hahaha am I losing my mind, I agree with Phil Gould!! Lang Park is ABSOLUTELY the best stadium in the world... it's daylight to second, which is what?? The Sydney Football Stadium, AAMI Park in Melbourne??

NSW might regret dropping James Maloney, says Phil Gould

NSW coach Brad Fittler could live to regret his decision to axe veteran five-eighth James Maloney for Origin I, that’s the opinion of former Blues boss Phil ‘Gus’ Gould. Maloney wore the No.6 jumper for the Blues in last year’s 2-1 series victory over Queensland. But after a shocking start to the NRL season with the struggling Penrith Panthers, the 32-year-old was dropped for in-form South Sydney pivot and Origin debutant Cody Walker.

Na, Maloney’s game has gotten way too loose, especially for Origin. Too many missed tackles, penalties, errors. He wouldn’t have made any difference last night

Keary was injured, they should've stuck with their WINNING halves from last year.

He looked okay, got lucky that the charge down on his kick actually came off for NSW. I also wouldn't say he created an overlap as his defender slid well, he was going to be wrapped up short of the line and hadn't created any space for his outside man.
