It is hard to believe, but they were, indeed, better than our team. But you'd have to tip them for bottom four next year with that line up.

The Singleton Greyhounds have a better spine than us.

Pretty average squad on paper, the same as last year. But they were able to over achieve last year, even factoring the game they were dudded against the Broncos and I think there was one other.

I thought Brookes had a pretty good year with a significant improvement in his defence. Overall they were pretty boring to watch and defended well enough to win more than they should. There's really no reason why they can't repeat that defensive mindset with Maguire but they need to be able to score more points and I can't see where those points come from.

Cleary had them defensively focused early on, but they couldn't maintain it. That's poor coaching.

I dont think the coach can really be blamed for their lack of success, their roster was/is one of the weakest in the competition.
The only option Cleary had was to restrict the opposition to 10 points or less, then scrambling for points themselves through gritty play. A few injuries and a few undeserved losses didn't help.

Edit. I don't think the change in referee interpretation (back to wrestling) helped them either.

There is no doubt that Cleary handled his departure poorly. The tram still had a finals chance with a few rounds to go but the players phoned it in. I think they knew he was leaving.

Both are inconsistent.
Both promise you heaps but rarely deliver
Honestly, supporting the raiders and tigers is like kissing your cousin.

Wests Tigers forward Michael Chee Kam has been charged with assaulting a ride share driver after a night out in Bondi over the weekend.

Chee Kam, 26, and an 18-year-old man were allegedly standing on Campbell Parade at around 10.30pm when a 26-year-old Uber driver approached in a vehicle and was allegedly punched repeatedly through a window.

Wests Tigers have submitted an appeal to the NRL to have CEO Justin Pascoe reinstated

The Wests Tigers have submitted a response to the NRL in a bid to lessen the severity of punishment they face for alleged salary cap breaches. CEO Justin Pascoe was sensationally deregistered and the club was hit with a $750,000 fine and a salary cap reduction of $639,000 for 2019 when a post-career deal with club legend Robbie Farah was deemed to be illegal.

Michael Maguire hasn’t wasted time shaking things up at the Wests Tigers, appointing fullback Moses Mbye as captain for 2019. Former coach Ivan Cleary appointed five captains to share the role last year – Chris Lawrence, Benji Marshall, Russell Packer, Elijah Taylor and Josh Reynolds.

Strange decision IMO. New to the club while there is still a few 'Tigers legends' in the side. I think Brooks would have been a better choice looking to the future while still rewarding a local player. His game improved last year and the captaincy could have taken his game to another level. I like to think of it by where Brooks/Mybe will be at in 2 years. Brooks will still be guiding the Tigers around the park, whereas Mybe could be playing reserve grade.

Mbye is also pretty quiet and reserved. If they see him as the long-term option they would have been better putting him as VC this year behind a strong captain and then handing him the reigns next year when Farah / Marshall / Lawrence move on.

Don't think so, he is very well spoken when he joins the footy shows on Fox.

That goes against what the dogs / tigers supporters on Reddit and work are saying. Must be different on the field.

Wests Tigers sign Robert Jennings after South Sydney Rabbitohs release

The Wests Tigers have secured the services of Robert Jennings on a two-year deal after he was granted a release from South Sydney. Jennings, who visited Wests Tigers headquarters in Concord on Thursday afternoon to meet the players and coaching staff, is expected to formally begin training with his new club next week.

Wests Tigers hit with big reductions in salary cap for next two seasons over Robbie Farah "ambassadorial role"

The NRL has reduced the Wests Tigers' salary cap by $320,000 in each of the next two seasons after breaching the cap by offering hooker Robbie Farah a $639,000 ambassador agreement in 2016.

The NRL has also decided to refuse registration of Zane Musgrove, who is facing an indecent assault charge, which means the Tigers are under the salary cap and don’t need to shed a player to become cap compliant before the start of the season.

The NRL has suspended half of the $750,000 fine on the Wests Tigers over the scandal and CEO Justin Pascoe is free to return on June 19 this year, after serving a six month suspension.

Wests Tigers club statement

Wests Tigers have today accepted the sanctions handed down by the NRL in relation to the Ambassador agreement.

The club accept that it made an error in not declaring the agreement as part of the salary cap. While maintaining that it was not its intention to breach the salary cap, the club has confirmed the agreement should have been declared.

Wests Tigers has been fined $375,000 (with a further $375,000 suspended) and a salary cap penalty of $639,800 will be applied to the Wests Tigers over 2019 and 2020, meaning the club will lose $319,900 of its cap each year.

In addition, Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has been suspended for six months, backdated to December 19, 2018.

The Board of Wests Tigers has accepted these final actions and said that the club looked forward to moving on from this issue with the start of the 2019 season just two weeks away.

“Our initial instinct that the club had not breached the cap was not correct after assessing all of the compiled evidence alongside the NRL rules. We now accept that we should have declared the Ambassador agreement as part of the salary cap.

“We apologise to the NRL for our initial response.

“We look forward to welcoming back our CEO Justin Pascoe in June and would like to acknowledge the strain this has placed on him and his family. Their wellbeing has been a priority throughout this process, and we will continue to provide them with the necessary support.”

“We'd also like to take this chance to thank all of our Corporate Partners, Members, fans and sections of the media for the overwhelming support, both public and private, that we have received through this period.

"Wests Tigers is an extremely proud and united club and we are all very confident that we can put this matter behind us and have a successful season in 2019.”

Musgrove wasn't registered and wont be. So technically he isnt even a NRL play now. So Tigers shouldn't be allowed to seek any compensation

Don't think it'll hurt reynolds to punch out some 80min games in reggies after playing so little footy last year. Build up some confidence and strength and come back in round 4 or 5 when the tigers are 1-3.

Michael Chee-Kam stood down by Wests Tigers

On Wednesday, April 24, Chee Kam appeared in Waverley Local Court and pled guilty to the charge of common assault.

Due to this, Michael will be stood down for Wests Tigers’ Round 7 game against the Gold Coast Titans.

Wests Tigers is working closely with the NRL Integrity Unit and will not make any further comment on the matter until the process is finalised next week.
