Merry Christmas 2018 and Happy New Year 2019 from The Greenhouse

Image

It is that time of year again... a week to the big day... so it is time to wish all the members and followers of The Greenhouse a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It was a disappointing year for Canberra Raiders fans and the club, again missing the finals in 2018. But for football fans, hope springs eternal. Hopefully, the lessons of the past two seasons have been learned. Hopefully, we see some finals football next year. And hopefully, we see a long awaited premiership arrive in 2019.

It was, as always, another big season for The Greenhouse. We now have over 3,400 members of TheGH.com.au and over 27,000 unique users of the site on average per month - with a monthly peak over 40,000 users. The site averages over 900,000 page views per month - with a monthly peak of over 1.6 million.

The Greenhouse also has 30,000 followers on Facebook, over 7,400 on Twitter and over 4,500 on Instagram. On all our social media platforms, including Pinterest, we now have over 48,000 followers.

It's thanks to you, the members and followers of the site, for continuing to make The Greenhouse the number one Canberra Raiders supporters website! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!

Knock knock
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

GE has there been any thought by the Greenhouse to have some social functions through out the year.

If we do something at the pub for the Brisbane home game next year, I’ll probably make the trip up from Sydney. So if we have any functions or get togethers next year in Canberra or Sydney I would be very interested to go. I would be up for giving my time to organize one in Sydney if we wanted too.

Anyway just a thought

Last year we did a fan meet up for the away games at the Gold Coast (Star) and Brisbane (The Lord Alfred) prior to the games (and post the game in Brisbane). The Lord Alfred get together was quite successful, with a lot of Raiders fans turning up. The Gold Coast didn't get that many people.

We'll probably do some more next year - almost certainly one for the Magic Round in Brisbane at The Lord Alfred. They're a good pub, and they want to turn it into the "away" fans pub... and they did us some special deals this year.

We did a very big meet up in Melbourne in 2016 for the Preliminary Final in Melbourne at the Richmond Club Hotel. We took over the whole place and there was a queue to get in that went way down the street. Overflow took over several hotels and bars nearby.

If we could find a venue in Sydney close to the ground at an appropriate game, we'd be up for doing that. Given the Raiders are now staging single matches... we could maybe do one in Canberra, but there is no venue close to the ground, so it makes it a bit difficult. The best venues for these things are walking distance to the ground.

GE, looking at the schedule I would be happy to organize one for the Manly game or the West Tigers game. Both grounds are close to bars and pubs and I have a close friend who works in the liquor industry that i could get to help me organize a venue and hopefully put on a few drinks (She owns a company which distributes specific spirit brands into Australia )

I’ll look into.

Sounds good. The Bulldogs game at Stadium Australia is a good option too, maybe better than the Sea Eagles. There is The Brewry bar right beside the ground at the Novotel.

Thanks GE, the mods and all the posters that make this an entertaining, informative and sometimes awkward forum. Fingers crossed the 2019 season doesn’t hurt as much as this one has!

Be safe if you’re travelling, and if you’re not.
Take care on the grog, but wake up with a headache if not.
Get a full belly and laugh with your fams
After all there’s nothing quite like a Christmas baked ham!
And when in the ‘Berra, make the drive out South
To Soul Cartel’s Farr Side Cafe, cause word of mouth
Says a great feed you’ll have, n leave with a full belly

But, don’t forget, if you’re out at a game
We have a food van at the south end of Caitlain

Happy Festivus all!!

Ive been thinking about this since I came back from Europe actually. Seeing if there’s any interest in a Go Kart day. There’s a good complex out West Sydney, with a decent pub nearby.
Been meaning to ask around, but this year was flat out with work, house renos and the NRL season.

Oh, and merry Xmas everyone!
