Williams defense was as good as it's ever been this year. Still not great though

I can’t believe there are even thoughts in people’s heads about shifting Wighton. Him at 1 was by so, so, so far our best thing this year.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Bateman and Sutton are playing Warrington now if anyone's awake.

Because his strengths are his running game and passing game. His one on one defence which he rarely uses at FB.

Weaknesses; Defensive positioning for kicks. Errors under high ball.

Didn't see the game but Bateman had 2 try assists, 4 offloads and 150 metres without a linebreak. Great numbers.

Sutton only made 60 metres but had a try and 48 tackles.

They won.

I'm looking forward to JBateman arriving, acclimatising and knuckling down to what will be arguably the toughest preseason ever..

From all reports he goes alright. He will definately struggle early with the summer training.

The Bateman signing is a bigger one than Whitehead and Hodgson (in relation to their status at the time of signing).

This is exciting

Good numbers for Bateman. Did he play lock?

Where was Sutton?

Bateman was second Row.

Sutton off the bench, but must have played big minutes to have those tackle stats.

I've watched 1st half, Bateman right side backrower, real terrier good footwork and mobility.
Sutton, bench prop looks a bit unfit but good footy smarts covered inside well. nothing the toughest preseason ever couldn't fix.

Shaun Wane, the Wigan coach, always has his props big. Any spare timber Sutton is carrying is likely to be through instruction.

Bateman's on the three man shortlist for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel - along with Ben Barba and James Roby.

He stands a great chance of winning - especially as its voted for by the players.

Barba was sensational for the first half of the season, but dreadful for the second. Roby is the same as he's been for as long as I can remember - one of the very best players in the world - but he's done nothing different this year.

I was worried about his lack of size but after seeing the impact of mobile forwards like Radley, Murray and even a guy like Aubusson makes me think this will be a great signing.

We are making a concerted effort to move away from a big pack and I actually hold high hopes for next year as I think our defence will improve considerably.

Was Boyd a Stick or Furner move? I feel like I remember back when Stick coaches NSW before jumping to Parra, he was being “Revolutionary” by selecting a smaller, more agile forward pack.

Maybe he’s rehashing this idea?

We're going to be a different team with mobile forwards, rather than huge players in the middle.

I anticipate improvements defensively in particular.

Haha. Watch the NRL turn around and speed up the **** ruck so big forward packs just roll straight through us. Knowing this Mickey mouse comp we'll probably start the season well and the NRL will make the change mid season.

I think if they speed it up enough its more of an advantage to have a smaller pack. It was at it's all time fastest when the Tigers won and they had a really small pack. It's been slow ever since.

Seems your thoughts on Barba are confirmed by the following article with Bateman a good chance of taking it home: https://www.canberratimes.com.au/sport/ ... 506jp.html

Stuart definitely encouraged Boyd & made a project of him when he was about to head home to the country so he was part of Sticky's vision. Along with bringing in Paulo, I think Ricky wanted some big boppers. We went pretty hard for Tamou too didn't we, although he's a bit more mobile.
