Greg Bird linked to Canberra Raiders
Apparently Raiders met him in Melbourne during the SOO down there.
Only need a couple more board members to ticked off on it and the Raiders will get him.

Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
Yep that report seemed very certain it was a done deal.
Then again it was the same guy that said Tamou was a done deal so who knows.
The more I think about it the more I wouldn't be opposed to it because I think this side is missing a bit of mongrel and experience in the forwards. Bird is an experienced rep footy player and Ricky obviously thinks we need a bit more experience to compete in the big games which, after this year, I can't disagree with.
I wonder what that signals for Fensom?

This idiot has confirmed Tamou to the Raiders and the Cowboys multiple time this year on NRL360.IBG wrote:Yep that report seemed very certain it was a done deal.

I wouldn't say no to Bird personally, he's a very good rugby league player, but at what cost? and who's cost?

Can you imagine if we signed both tomau and bird, there's our rep forward pack
Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
I think there's a difference between Mongrel and total ****....
Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
Bird would be a great signing, but then I am assuming this will change Fensom's role in the team?

Nah he's definitely matured with age. He's an origin player and would struggle to get into trouble in the Nation's capital.Schifty wrote:I think there's a difference between Mongrel and total ****....

You would think if this is true that papali would move to front row next

A move to the front row as a mobile Tolman or lillyman style prop, would need to add plenty of bulk thoughIBG wrote:Yep that report seemed very certain it was a done deal.

As long as he stops making 60 tackles a game, flopping on tackles when out of steam and hemorrhaging penalties.kiwi raider wrote:A move to the front row as a mobile Tolman or lillyman style prop, would need to add plenty of bulk thoughIBG wrote:Yep that report seemed very certain it was a done deal.

Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
The Raiders have a no **** policy... and Bird doesn't qualify. Not only that, I don't believe the Canberra public would accept a player with his history.

Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
I think I would rather Fensom play prop than Papa. It's basically the same role anyway for Fensom (less minutes and tackles) and we still keep Papa where he is most dangerous out wide.
Without this becoming a Fensom bashing exercise, he's not absolutely vital to our defence in the middle. He makes a lot of tackles but a lot of them aren't effective. He might have more of an impact if he plays less minutes.

Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
To be fair I think this went out the window with the Leilua signing. Don't get me wrong, I know Bird has done a lot more than Joey, but it's a sign that Ricky is focused on winning. As someone said earlier, Bird can't get in much trouble here.greeneyed wrote:The Raiders have a no **** policy... and Bird doesn't qualify. While a no **** policy is ideal, I'd rather have Bird and win a premiership than not have Bird and not win a premiership. I'm not saying Bird automatically gets us a premiership, but you get my point.
Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
This player is currently charged with alleged drug offences. You reckon that it is not possible to "get into trouble" in Canberra. What more trouble do you want?IBG wrote:To be fair I think this went out the window with the Leilua signing. The player has a long history. You don't sign a player like Greg Bird if you're building a culture.

Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
I agree actually re fensom, good club player no doubt but not the rep player many believe, we haven't missed a beat when fensom hasn't been in the side, He's just a popular version of Jarrad kennedy although fensoms offloading game is certainly much better, I reckon he'd hardly rate a mention if it wasn't for fantasy/SuperCoach and stats obsessed maniacs like our very own Matt.IBG wrote:I think I would rather Fensom play prop than Papa. We signed Joseph Leilua for goodness sake.greeneyed wrote:The player has a long history. You don't sign a player like Greg Bird if you're building a culture.
What culture does Ricky want? My guess is a winning one.

I think it's highly unlikely we would come here and then get into ****, plus blokes bloke soliola and FPN would keep him in line

Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
If Bird comes we roll out a prop and backrow rotation of Vaughan, Papalii, Bird, Soliola, Fensom, Whitehead, Nu'uausala, Boyd as first choice in 2016. Would rather sign a younger prop with upside to be honest but that is a very good pack with above average mobility mixed with plenty of toughness.

After last weeks game I definitely think we could use a few extra brainless penalties each game......

Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
Ricky's entire career and livelihood hinges on turning us in to a genuine premiership threat in the next 2 years.
I Wouldn't blame him for taking a punt on a guy like Bird in his situation.

Exactly. I'll pass on this one, thanks.greeneyed wrote:The player has a long history. You don't sign a player like Greg Bird if you're building a culture.
Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
Please Ricky do not sign him. Birdy is past his prime and with his prior record we should move on from this half wit.
Re: Greg Bird linked to Raiders NRL360
**** it, I don't care anymore, get him in here and damn the consequences!

The bloke is currently going through the courts for cocaine possesion, use and trafficking charges after years and years of off and onfield dramas and we want him at our club? I've said it before - I wont support a club with this grub in it.

Rubbish. It's highly likely he would get into **** in Canberra. He's a **** and what else is he going to do?
