Odd that both Gold Coast and Newcastle aren't hosting a single game. And that Sydney have no finals matches at all. 3 matches in Townsville and Cairns respectively seems a bit overkill as well, though I guess they probably stumped up the money for it.
Apart from that it seems to be a very good geographic spread - it's great to extent the reach of the game instead of limiting it to a couple of cities on the East Coast.

Rugby League World Cup CEO Michael Brown has resigned after a blazing row with Penrith
RUGBY League World Cup boss Michael Brown was forced to quit after he admitted to bullying a Penrith Panthers executive in a furious voicemail phone message.
Brown, who is also the NRL’s Chief Commercial Officer, stood down after a transcript of his recorded spray at Panthers chief executive Corey Payne was sent to NRL boss Todd Greenberg.
There were suggestions his bullying included physical threats.

Re: 2017 World Cup
This was particularly interesting... Sounds like the Panthers were out of line in the first place... but good to see Brown has also put his hand up and said, I was wrong in what I did.
“We’d had a great day with announcements in Brisbane and Townsville then Penrith put out this pack of lies about the venue choices. We didn’t go to Penrith because they were asking us for in excess of $500,000 to play there. Allianz Stadium charged us $100,000. It was a simple decision.”

Mal Meninga touts Canberra Raiders Blake Austin and Shannon Boyd as potential World Cup bolters
Canberra Raiders playmaker Blake Austin has forced his way on to Australian coach Mal Meninga's World Cup radar while Shannon Boyd has emerged as another potential Kangaroos bolter.
"I think Blake Austin's a chance - maybe as a fourteen. I like Boyd, and I obviously like Josh Papalii," Meninga said. "There's a number of players to be honest with you. If they keep their development and keep growing as players that I think could put their hand up.
"The club's got to be doing well, and they've got to be playing really well for their club, and because of that they start getting recognised.

Great to see boyd mentioned. I said earlier in the year that I thought he was coming on more than vaughan. I think hes unfairly labelled a poor lateral mover due to his size. The bloke can throw his frame around

He's actually a fantastic lateral mover for somekne his size.
Re: 2017 World Cup
Austin should have been that #14 role for NSW for a while now, if not starting. He'd do a great job for the Kangaroos but really shouldn't be in the discussion while Morgan is healthy.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Maybe not for top 17, but if you have to pick a squad that will play a cup you'd want some backups.julian87 wrote:Austin should have been that #14 role for NSW for a while now, if not starting. He'd do a great job for the Kangaroos but really shouldn't be in the discussion while Morgan is healthy.

Rugby League World Cup 2017 ticket prices announced
Rugby League World Cup 2017 (RLWC2017) has announced its fan-friendly ticket pricing for next year's tournament to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand from 27 October to 2 December.
Fans are encouraged to purchase early to secure the best seats at the lowest prices, starting from $10 for kids and concessions, $20 for adults and $45 for a family of four. The ticket pricing reflects the RLWC2017 organising committee’s vision of having next year’s tournament seen by more fans than ever before.
RLWC2017 CEO, Andrew Hill, said the tournament would be a festival of rugby league with some 450,000 fans expected to attend the 28 games across 13 host cities – a World Cup record.
"When setting ticket prices, value for money was our number one priority. We wanted to make next year's tournament accessible to all fans, particularly families, giving them the opportunity to attend a World Cup and see the greatest rugby league players from around the globe.
"A family of four can attend a Rugby League World Cup pool match from just $45, a semi-final from $120 or even the final in Brisbane, where they will witness both the men’s and women’s winners crowned on the same day, from only $180.
"Our venue packs are also extremely affordable, where fans can see all matches at selected venues at a discounted rate, starting from as little as $17 for kids and concessions or $34 for adults.
"To get the best seats at the best value, fans are urged to buy tickets when they go on sale to the general public on Thursday 27 October 2016," concluded Hill.
Other highlights of the ticket prices include:
Opening ceremony followed by Australia vs England from $81.60 for adults
Quarter finals from $20 for adults and $60 for a family of four
Semi-finals from $40 for adults and $120 for a family of four
Final from $70 for adults and $180 for a family of four (includes both women’s and men’s finals)
The RLWC2017 will be contested from 27 October to 2 December 2017 and hosted by Australia and New Zealand with three pool games also being played in Papua New Guinea.

Pre sale buying window for Raiders members starts at noon. Only for three game packages, which does include Category A seats as far as I can see. Would have thought the three game packages would offer Category A if you're looking to maximise seat sales.

Re: 2017 World Cup
Throws up Bays 51 or 57 and behind the posts. I will wait for the Category A seats. But doesn't look like you can buy a venue package in Category A.

Re: 2017 World Cup
They are assigned to the travel packages according to the website
Re: 2017 World Cup
I forgot that presale for individual games went on sale today... got the email half an hour AFTER they went on sale... then didn't see it until about 5.30pm.
Didn't get seats that were TOO bad for the World Cup final... but on the western side, under cover on about the 20m line. Bays on the half way seem to have been held back... or are sold out. I could understand they are completely sold, for the final.
For the games in Canberra... It was pretty easy to get tickets near the half way in Bay 53 or 55 for the Australia V France match still... But it looks like they have held back the entire covered sections of the ground for that match. I took Bay 55.
Then for the minor matches... they've put on sale some very weird bays.
For France V Lebanon I got Bay 55... could only get right up the back of Bay 11 or 12. To be honest I just can't believe virtually all those seats in Bay 11 sold for that game this afternoon (remember, no Category A seats have been put on sale until this afternoon).
For Fiji versus a European qualifier... I mean we don't even know who one of the teams is yet! They only had seats in Bay 52 on sale and on the eastern side, all the seats with most elevation have been held back by the looks. They have only put Bay 8 and 9 on sale in the Meninga Stand and one up the other end. I took east side on the half way.
Are the RLWC organisers trying to sell tickets... or not?!

Former Canberra Raiders captain Terry Campese stars for Italy in World Cup qualifier
Terry Campese has masterminded Italy's 62-14 win over Serbia in Belgrade which ended the Serbs' hopes of qualifying for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
The 32-year-old helped create a hat-trick of tries for winger Richard Lepori inside the opening 12 minutes and going over himself from a quickly-taken tap penalty just before the hour. Italy face Wales next Saturday in a pool A decider in Monza.

Italy, Ireland move closer to World Cup
A dominant performance from Terry Campese has helped Italy to a 62-14 win over Serbia in European qualifying. Italy will now take on Wales on Saturday with the winner guaranteed a place in Pool C of the 2017 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Ireland captain Liam Finn was also highly influential in bringing his nation to within one game of the World Cup with a commanding performance at halfback in his side's 46-6 win over Spain. Ireland will clash with Russia on Sunday with the winner guaranteed a place in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup in Pool C.
The final place in the World Cup will be decided by a play-off between the second ranked team in each group.

I suspect this means we will see Fiji play Italy in Canberra... I guess that means an appearance from Terry Campese?

Kimmorley to assist McDermott with USA
The USARL have comfirmed that former Kangaroo halfback Brett Kimmorley will be the national team's assistant coach for their 2017 World Cup campaign.
The 40-year-old, who also represented New South Wales in State of Origin, will assist head coach Brian McDermott and trainer Sean Rutgerson with the American team, known as the Hawks.
Kimmorley retired from playing in 2010, and has since worked as a coach at Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs and Canberra Raiders.

Could former Canberra Raiders captain Terry Campese get a Canberra Stadium farewell in rugby league World Cup?
A bizarre rugby league twist is set to open the door for Terry Campese to enjoy a hometown farewell at Canberra Stadium. If Italy seals the No.3 European spot, it will set Campese up for a Canberra Stadium comeback against Fiji on November 10 next year.
Alan Tongue launched the rugby league World Cup's one-year-to-go campaign on Wednesday. "It would be so good to see him get that farewell game he didn't get a few years ago. It would be a great story, and he's already giving back to Queanbeyan."
