AFL Indigenous Round - lessons to learn
This last weekend was the AFL's Indigenous Round. It looked good, with all 18 teams wearing indigenous jerseys, and more importantly, all 18 wore them on the same weekend.
Compare this with the rabble at the NRL, where not all 16 teams have special jerseys, and half of the ones that do don't wear them on the actual weekend because they'd prefer to wear it at home. Likewise the women in league round, half the jerseys get worn on another weekend just so they can be at home.
We had the incoming AFL CEO come in to speak at our office last week. From just a half hour chat, you could see that he has a clear idea about the direction that the game should go. I know the NRL tried poaching him a few years back before they had to settle for Dave Smith, but they could still do a lot worse than to look at his (and the AFL in general) as an example of how to run a sport.

Yep. Jersey design is a serious issue in the game today.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

The AFL is no comparison to the barn yard antics of the NRL.
Avatar Bet - bleedgreen99 - Raiders to make (BG99)/miss(Lucy) the 8. Avatar from last round of regular season 2015 until GF 2016.
Signature Bet - Raider85 - Raiders to get(Lucy)/miss(R85) the wooden spoon. Signature for entire offseason.
Bottle of something to the value of $70 - Matthew Borewood to not see (Lucy)/to see (Piggles) a first grade game in 2015 for the Warriors.
The Name Change Bet - Regarding the three bets above;
I win all three I keep my name.
I win one I become "the Punish"
I lose all I become "Chicken Little"

It's the perfect competition. Nothing ever goes wrong, all the players are well behaved and it runs like a well oiled machine.

Re: AFL Indigenous Round - lessons to learn
I'm not saying that at all. My point is that the AFL holds a special round, and has the balls to stand up to the clubs and tell them what to do. Compared to the wishy-washy administration we currently have that doesn't properly promote things, then lets the clubs walk all over them simply because they don't want to cause waves.dubby wrote:Yep. The clubs are just doing what the NRL tells them, which is that only the home team gets to have the special jersey.

Why did we wear a sponsors jersey at home, but the 'heritage' Jersey away?
Also - stupid white jumpers.

The Raiders can propose to play in the home jersey when away, up to the NRL to agree or not.green94 wrote:Why did we wear our home jersey at SFS the other night ?

Based on a comment from one player, I'd say it was player driven to play in the green.green94 wrote:good answer GE but the u20s wore white. do you know why ?greeneyed wrote:The Raiders can propose to play in the home jersey when away, up to the NRL to agree or not.green94 wrote:Why did we wear our home jersey at SFS the other night ?

Re: AFL Indigenous Round - lessons to learn
Warriors have 10 jerseys these days.
No idea how the NRL allowed that.

Re: AFL Indigenous Round - lessons to learn
They haven't been sighted on FTA for several years, so no one noticed.
