Hey coastal? You know how I could get my hands on a uta buff? I thought it might be the finishing 'gift' so didn't bother buying one at registration.

Re: Health and fitness
Getting there. Muscle soreness is mostly gone. A little discomfort in the knees. My big toe is still not great though. It has been tentative for a few months and still uncomfortable... red from a little rubbing and a bit bruised. It managed to find every rock in that last 10k - I thought it would be bloody but it wasn't.Dr Zaius wrote:How are you travelling mate?gergreg wrote:Hey coastal? I've taken the dog for a few short walks but no running yet. I'll give the toe another week and then get back on the trails. I bought a salomon vest for the next one. I used an Osprey - like a camelbak - and it was a pain in the **** as far as accessibility.
I'll book in for a massage next week.
How about you? Young fit guy like you, probably back to 100%
What's your next race? I have been looking at Chiang Mai for maybe next year - probably focus on 50s instead of longer ones. Also wouldn't mind doing the uta100 again on the normal course - maybe in a few years. Then longer term I wouldn't mind a crack at the Srichinmoy 100.

Young, me?
Same pattern as last year for me. Sore for three days, but nothing ridiculous. By Wednesday that had settled and I mindlessly started walking up the stairs at work. That was a mistake . Yesterday up and down the stairs no problems.
Been for a 3km walk every morning. Had planned on running this morning, but had a skin cancer cut out during the week and I've been told no exercise until next week.
I'm doing Tarawera 102km in Feb, which was deferred from this year.
There is the Guzzler in Brisbane in July, but I'm not sure that it excites me scenery wise. There is Blackall on the Sunshine Coast in October, but running 100km in SE QLD October heat isn't appealing.
I'm definitely interested in the Sri Chinmoy 100. That looks fantastic. I think that I'll also try and nab a Kosciuszko 100 for next year.
Ultimately I want to do a miler before I get too old. I'm thinking that I need about 5 100km under my belt. I've got 2 now, 3 if you count my Kokoda 96km team event. I've learnt so much about how to run them, what my body needs after each one. In terms of mailers probably either Tarawera or Kosciuszko. If I get enough stones, maybe a UTMB race.

Re: Health and fitness
It's been a pretty miserable day in Canberra today for the Stromlo running festival. Had a quick storm, right about starting time and it's been running on and off all day. I guess it's probably better than baking hot like when I did it.

How far is it? I don't mind the rain. Just don't like the wind
Re: Health and fitness
Actually scrap that. A quick google search says its next week??? I could have sworn it was this weekend. They either postponed it for a week or I got the date wrong. Either way it's a race I don't think you would enjoy. The run up and back through the arboretum section is fantastic but it's mostly fire trail, aside from that.
Edit - sorry they have a 10k, 30k and 50k and a very short run for kids.

Greg did you get my dm about the buff? Doesn’t look like it’s working properly.

Got my heart scans and stress test back. Clean bill of health.
Doc went too far the other way though, he said my results are better than most people my age. So now the ego is through the roof. Might tell people to address me as “The Blueprint” from now on.

Good news Blueprint
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Re: Health and fitness
Thanks Fui, it’s never easy.
Being a shift worker for over 25yrs I only have 2 main meals a day mostly. I’m on this 12hr/7day roster and when I’m at home rostered off it’s very easy to hit the pantry and grab some bikkies or make a sandwich etc. I was using way too much margarine on my toast and binge eating. I’m on my feet a lot at work. My phone tells me I’m clocking up 15000>20000 steps every shift. My weight has never been out of control but because of my beer addiction it bounces up and down a lot.

Ticked the 30kg loss off today, knocked 5mins off my 9km bike loop in the last 5 weeks.
8 more kg's before Xmas is probably a stretch but I'm going for it, that'd get me into double figures for the first time in 27 years.

Re: Health and fitness
I just failed the Physical Aptitude test trying out for the firies. This was my 2nd time applying. This time last year I passed the beep test, written aptitude, Physical Aptitude test and had an interview. This time around I passed the beep and the written, but didn't get past the 1st phase of the physical Aptitude test, it was the 3rd phase of the PAT that I'd felt would be the difficult one. During the static hold I lost control with a few seconds to go. I'd had a niggling lower back injury from deadlifts, which had interrupted my training a little in the lead up, but otherwise I was feeling as fit, if not more fit than last year.
There were less people this intake, starting with 150, down to 60 coming into the PAT, so if I had passed today, I felt I had a reasonable chance to have joined the squad of 12. The next intake isn't until around September next year which feels a long time away, particularly since I'm 35 y/o now. Gutted.
