Sorry for the delay PJ, a long drive home from watching the Raiders play in Newcastle, then watching the Grand Kids at their final Little Athletics for the season.

NZ all out for 162 on Day 1, with Latham the top scorer with 38 runs. Hazlewood the destroyer 5-31 from 13.2 overs, Starc 3-59 from 12 overs, Cummins 1-35 from 11 overs and Green 1-21 from 4 overs. I

n reply Australia 4-124 with the much maligned Marnus top scoring for the match so far with 45 n.o. and night watchman Lyon 1 n.o. The Smith experiment continues with him out for 11, Usi gone for 16, Green out for 25 and Head 21. They have all got starts but Matt Henry with 3-39 off 13 overs is leading the attack well. The NZers are bowling full and at the stumps with Smith out lbw, Usi and Green out bowled and Head caught behind by the wicket keeper. The Aussies only had 2 out LBW and none bowled. Alex Carey having catching practice and taking 5 behind the stumps.

I'll be late with any Day 2 report. My brother has come to visit and we'll be out metal detecting this arvo.

Yep. Also I'm gonna be a bit controversial here, since the Ashes feels like Uzi has dropped off quite a bit which isn't helping our batting malaise atm.

at that level only certain players can deal with off field distractions. I have no issues with Usi expressing his opinions but it does seem to be affecting his form

Congrats to 41yr old Jimmy Anderson on 700 test wickets.

He becomes the 3rd player and 1st seamer to reach the milestone after Murali and Warne.

Outstanding longevity and fitness.

He's a very naughty boy who enjoys a good spank. To lose the Test by an innings and 64 runs and the series 4-1 doesn't say much for bazball.

Loved the comments by Sunny Gavaskar:
“There are no excuses for the regular whining and moaning [about spinning pitches in India]. England have been beaten fair and square,” Gavaskar said on Sky Sports.

I think the way AUS have been batting recently, we're less than buckley's of chasing this.

This exact situation is where we want to see the side.

Time left in the game isn’t an issue, 272 runs required.

Game on..

It absolutely is, but has anything about our batting in the last few months given you confidence that we can do this?

Not saying we can’t, but we haven’t exactly been batting convincingly

NZ have not beaten AUS in test cricket dating back to 2011 in Hobart.

The last time NZ beat AUS in New Zealand was 1993.

Great start by the BlackCaps here.
