Re: The Cricket Thread
NZ all out for 372 leaving Australia a target of 278. Cummins 4-62, Lyon 3-49, Starc 1-92, Hazlewood 1-70 and Green 1-48.
A poor start to the chase with Smith out for 9, Usi for 11, Labu for 6 and Green for 5 with Australia 4-77 at Stumps on Day 3 with 202 more to win. Marsh is 27 n.o. off 27 balls and Head is 17 n.o. off 39 balls. Those two will have to score the bulk of the remaining runs if we are to win.

This guy used to come to our training sessions occasionally. I must have been about 14 years old. Thankfully I never experienced any of this.

Re: The Cricket Thread
There has been a rain delay to start Day 4 of the 2nd Test.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Good partnership this, Marsh may have been lucky to dodge an lbw there.
Re: The Cricket Thread
At lunch on Day 4, Australia 5-175 with Marsh 55 n.o. and Carey 50 n.o.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Well said PJ. Have to feel for Carey being so close to his ton, but a win is a win is a win. That was an exciting finish. Test cricket is best regardless of what some death riders may say. Go Aussies.

Great competitive test match. Kiwis dropped catches killed them.

Re: The Cricket Thread
So, we now have a long gap with no tests prior to India.
- Our top order is a major worry.
- Head is a bit out of sorts too, though I never feel he is too far away from getting back into form.
- Carey has cemented his spot for the beginning of the summer.
- Bowling seems strong, HWood was excellent this match too.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Yea the Ravindra drop of marsh was huge, also the coin toss win for Australia probably turned our pretty important with 14 wickets on day 1.Northern Raider wrote: ↑March 11, 2024, 1:14 pm Great competitive test match. Kiwis dropped catches killed them.
Still at least we were competitive, big step up from wellington where I think the fact we hardly ever get to play Australia in test cricket meant the occasion (and nerves)probably got the better of us.
Having Conway, Jamieson and O'Rourke out injured probably didn't help either as not a heap of depth around nz cricket at the moment with the retirement/unavailability of Boult and Wagner

Re: The Cricket Thread
Agree.
Cummins temperament with the bat is honestly world class. Defends reasonably well. Keeps the scoreboard ticking over.
When the chips are down, he looks every bit like an all-rounder - despite only averaging 16 !
Big shout out to him for getting us home, yet again.
Carey gets a huge wrap for standing up when it mattered.
The Bison as well. He is a fair dinkum weapon these days.
Test cricket is the absolute greatest.
Re: The Cricket Thread
well done Phil Carey, deserved a ton and hopefully turns him back to pre-ashes headspace

Re: The Cricket Thread
Carey’s been magnificent since I **** pood him. I’ll have to make a mental note to rubbish Smith and Labuschagne prior to the Indian series in summer.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: The Cricket Thread
India are aiming for 3 straight series wins here too... will be well on track if we don't get our act together with the batting.
