Yep shocker.

ICC needs to do something to create more exciting and challenging series.

Better support for some nations and a better balance between bat and ball.

This is the state of Test cricket though. ATM there are 4 or 5 good teams, then a massive gulf to the "2nd tier".
Australia, England, India, NZ and Sth Africa (even if they have 3 losses in the Test Championship - all to India).
SL, Pak, WI and and Bangers arent in the same class. All these teams have good players, but not good XIs.
You still have to play all the nations at some point, and so you will get dud series at times.

Not really sure how you solve this. The fact that its a 2 Test series speaks volumes of the opposition. TBH, its sad that this means it only a 3 Test series vs the Kiwis. Id almost rather 2 dud teams so we can have a 5 Test series vs them next yr.

SA vs WA
Good to see Carey get some runs.

That Cameron Green continues to show promise. Turned that 80 odd into 120 odd.
Inglis, the WA keeper, is also having a sneakily good yr with the bat.
Stoinis is also still going reasonably well.
Bancroft continues to stink.

Vic vs NSW
Pucovski and Maddinson made 50s, 82 and 59 respectively.
Handscomb made 54.

Larkin has 2 50s in this game too,

Does Paine want to destroy our bowlers? Who follows on after bowling 90 overs. This guy must be up there for the worst ever Aussie captain

They are/ were worried about the rain. Didnt want to lose time while batting. Figured they could run anything down late in the game if need be. Getting the 20 wickets was the priority. They got 3 last night. While they were treading water early today, they have got 2 more quick ones. So, well and truly in business now.

BTW, Masood again out between 50-70. Hasnt got the staying power.

Horrendous test series.

I can’t believe I voluntarily gave up on watching in the end (that happens very rarely for me), but then tuned in to see the icing and cherry on top with an abysmal run out.

That whole team and anyone involved in it should be immediately sent to the nearest Kanga Cricket match or Have-A-Go Milo clinic.

It was a very disappointing series. Credit to Aussies for playing well but the opposition was very sub standard. To be fair they've not had a proper 1st class domestic series for a long time now so these guys are coming into test cricket with very little grounding. Such a shame to see a former top class cricket nation fall away so much.

...and we effectively lost Zimbabwe just as they were establishing themselves as a genuine test nation. Stocks are getting thin now. Different reasons for all of them so not much the ICB can do about it.

Its sad. Esp when you look at how hard Bangladesh and Afghanistan are trying to get their team to a decent level.

IRL were given full test status in 2017 and have played 3 tests in total.

Played 3..lost 3.

I can agree with points for both sides of the coin, but given it was against a Pakistan team that was always going to lose (and even if we drew, no one would've truly cared) - another hour would've been a nice reward for the hard work Warner put in.

I get the decision to declare, BUT... lets be realistic, its the Paki's. Another hr, hr and a half wasnt going to matter. Let Warner have a go at 400.
Also remember, thats 400 against a terrible Paki side. So, whats it really worth?

Haydo's 380 was vs Zimbabwe.
Lara's 400* was vs the Poms.
Dont tell me either of those Aussie scores match Lara's. The Poms werent a good side, but they were a damn sight better than that Zim or current Paki sides. Also, that WI side wasnt that good either.

The only thing they really prove is staying power and the quality of the opposition.

As for Paine... right now Carey is the only one viewed as a keeping contender. Inglis, the WA keeper, has more runs this yr in the Shield. Not saying he has the quality, but he does have the runs on the board. Paines days are numbered, both as the captain and keeper. Hell... they could give the gloves back to Wade in the short term.

I'm not following. I was against the individual 400. You seemed to be telling me it was a good idea then telling me it was a waste of time because the poms were better and it wouldn't mean as much?

Im saying let him go for the 400 record, but at the end of the day, Lara's opposition was better. So its just a number.

It's all rubbish. I still rate Laxman's ~280 odd as one of the best innings - precisely because of the quality of bowling attack he faced included the likes of Warne, Gillespie and McGrath.

Arghh yes..

Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman

Great batsmen..

I think that 280 you're talking about was part of a massive partnership with Dravid wasn't it Azza ?

It was up over 500 runs I'm sure...99/00 or thereabouts.

Yep.

Just did a little homework on it Tim.

VVS Laxman 281
Dravid 180

A 380 run partnership to bat the entire 4th day(90 overs).

Our boys chased some leather that day..

That Laxman/ Dravid partnership was the best ive seen, even if it was on Indian soil.

Oh...
