Tigers target ex-Raiders star Bateman as Sheens gets creative with roster overhaul
The Wests Tigers have made an inquiry with Wigan about the prospect of bringing 2019 Dally M Backrower of the Year John Bateman back to the NRL in 2023.
In a move unrelated to Isaiah Papali’i having second thoughts about switching from Parramatta to Concord next year, Tigers director of football Tim Sheens has confirmed the club has made the approach. The catch is going to be Bateman is under contract with Wigan until at least the end of 2024 and for now the Warriors have blocked the Tigers move.

Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
Yeah Jonneh don’t know what a contract is.
So the Tigpies should pay him every Friday in $$$.
Then we Jonneh decides he wants to go home, or join the Roosters on minimal wage the Tigs aren’t hit to hard in the pocket.

The silver lining for Brett Finch is that he will no longer be be chiefly remembered for his 20m drop out on the full to lose a game.Billy Walker wrote:Very ordinary stuff that Finch has pleaded guilty to - disgraceful stuff

Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
Well he was never remembered for that because it was a 20 tap, not a 20m drop out.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
The fact the details were lost is a good indicator that wasn't what he was remembered for, it was actually the droppie for NSW.
Now the drop-kick should be shot into the sun.
Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
Let history record it that my scumbag filter for this guy was absolutely 100% correct and accurate
Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
Ahhh yes. At least I’d forgotten part of that sorry day.julian87 wrote:Well he was never remembered for that because it was a 20 tap, not a 20m drop out.
Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
It’s was a drop kick from the 20m line, so it was effectively a 20m dropout. I think that’s back when it was referred to as a “20m optional restart”. The option being to take a tap or drop kick it.
From memory Scumbag chose to drop kick it aiming for touch to give us a chance to be in better field position to win the game. Instead it went out in the full, concedes a penalty right in front, Johns kicks the penalty goal to win the game by 2. Then they swapped shorts.
I never got over that game. Such a low percentage play.

Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
Yeah, i think the 20 metre tap is still optional.
Though they might have changed it now with the quick tap situation... hard to imagine no halfback has thought to grab the ball, rush up and kick for touch for easy territory)
But back then you had the option to kick and if the ball landed in the field of play and then went out, you got the scrum feed from the spot... i actually didnt have a problem with the play itself, thought it was a pretty clever idea... he just blew the execution.

Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
When it's the optional restart it can just be a punt can't it? Pretty sure his was a punt out on the full, it'd be pretty radical to go for it with a droppie. I remember always thinking that aspect of the rule being weird.
Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
Yeah i remember it being a punt too? But it was so long ago it might have been a drop kickRoger Kenworthy wrote: ↑August 16, 2022, 2:42 pm When it's the optional restart it can just be a punt can't it? Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
I always thought it was a drop kick but could be mistaken. Anyone wanting to relive it can see it at the 20 minute mark here:

We can guarantee Brett Finch was a drop kick.

Not that it makes it significantly better, but I wondered if he perhaps inadvertently shared an image of someone who turned out to be younger than he realised. That definitely wasn’t the case. These additional details are truly gross

There is a threshold where mental health issues aren't a factor, scumbag's actions smash through that threshold.

Best call ever.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

F him off - hope he gets 15 years in jail to rot there.
Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
I don't say this glibly, but i wonder if he'll even see out this year.
He's had a lot well publicised mental health battles and this is the kind of thing that gets you ostracised (quite rightly i would add) by even the closest of friends and family. I would think he's at a very high risk of suicide in the coming months.

Jail or not, Finch's life as he knew it is over. I'm glad it was all uncovered before it got worse.
The whole thing is incredibly sad.

Before signing with us, I claimed Curtis would be an excellent signing, that he had a good swerve and could drive into gaps, how wrong I was.Elcaptcroker wrote:Branden smith and drink water told the court how they watched curtis scott drive his car into a tree when he played for melbourne

Former Raiders junior Jeremiah Simbiken has earned himself an NRL contract with his continual big-match displays in the Queensland Cup. Simbiken has agreed to a three-year deal with the Dolphins which will see him hold development contract status when the new NRL team begins pre-season later this year: https://www.nrl.com/news/2022/08/26/fro ... -contract/
