Meninga and Greinke Head Up Coaching for Magpies
26 August, 2005

The Magpies season closed on Sunday August 21 at home. Unfortunately for the players and the supporters the result was not what was hoped for and all three grades went down to stronger sides from Easts Tigers.

This season is the last for coach, Phil Economidis who has been with the Magpies for the 2005 season. Phil made a great contribution to the club and the players and will be missed by one and all. Good Luck in the future, Phil and thanks for all your efforts, skill and dedication to the team.

Next season will be one to watch for all Magpies. Souths’ greats; Mal Meninga and Gary Grienke take on the roles of coaching coordinators. Mal and Gary will look after all teams from juniors to the Wizard Cup side. The Wizard Cup side will be coached by Mark Glidon who coached Wynnum last season. Mark will be very ably assisted by Brandon Costin and former Magpies captain, Mohammed Alouche. Long term club stalwart, Peter Edwards will coach the Colts side while the announcement on the A-Grade coach is expected next week.

2005 was a big learning curve for all the teams at Davies Park and next season the team are looking forward to some very positive results. With Mal Meninga and Gary Grienke at the helm all the teams are full of enthusiasm and determination to have a big 2006.

Souths Logan Magpies greatly appreciates and would like to thank the sponsors for all their personal support at the games and functions as well as their financial support for the teams. Many thanks and fond farewell to Phil Economidis, Peter Nocon and Darren Ireland who coached the teams and gave so much of their time and efforts to all players. Thanks also to the Ladies Auxiliary who spend so much of their time in great support of the players and the match goers. They are the unsung heroes of the League at each and every match day, always ready to lend a hand looking after the refreshments, the canteen supplies, the endless setting up, cleaning up and feeding the masses. Many thanks to the Leagues Club staff, the managers, the volunteers at the games, the commentators, the scoreboard operators, the officials, ball boys, the groundskeeper (who really does an amazing job given the current drought conditions), the bar staff in the clubhouse and all the supporters who turn up at Davies Park where Rugby League tradition still lives.

Lastly and certainly not least – thanks to all the players who pull on the jumper each week and run on to the field to represent *'s Souths Logan Magpies. See you at the club in 2006 for another big year of Rugby League – the greatest game of all.
