Connerly as Matt calls him looks set for a debut.

Cooper better realise this is no time for caution

Connolly would be the first bowler to be picked for Australia before he's taken 1 wicket Sheffield Shield level.

Looks like we have misread the pitch, not the rank turner they were expecting and we only have three specialist bowlers

Lyon and Kuhneman still got quiet a few to turn square. But, no, not a dust bowl rag turner.

Stumps Day 1 2nd Test v Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka are 9-229. Chandimal made a fine 79 and Mendis is 59 not out. For Australia Starc has 3-37, GOAT 3-78, Kuhnemann 2-53 and Head has a wicket. The pitch is a dust bowl which will keep lower and lower as the match goes on. Batting last will be difficult so I'm hoping that Australia can build a solid first innings lead.

I wouldn't say Lyon got many to turn square, it was just excellent, crafty, controlled off spin bowling with lots of guile and smarts. He really has blossomed into an outstanding bowler.

Not doubting that.
Just saying, they were getting enough balls to turn sharply for it not to a coincidence.

Depends how we bat after cleaning up this last wicket NR.

229 right now isn’t much and I’d expect AUS to bat once and go large.

Expect Marnus to nick off for not many, it’s he’s way.

I'm not that impressed with the bowling. It looks like SL have gotten 60-70 extra runs that they shouldn't have. We are a bowler short

Smudge looked out on his feet by the end of the day. But the man really is the best Aussie since Bradman. His record is ridiculous.

Nice to see Carey make some runs too. He has the talent and ability to do this, just the consistency or opportunity doesnt come around much.

I thought that bairstow incident might have ruined his confidence and career, let's see how his recent form carries over once the barmy's get into him

Smudge has been well below his best the past couple of years with an exclamation mark being the failed move to opener. After a lean start to the India test series there was genuine concern his career was in serious decline. Turned it all around in Brisbane where he ground out his first ton since the 2023 Ashes. By no means a classic knock but it seems to have given him the foundation for a return to form. He's now scored 4 centuries in his last 5 tests. That's as good as it gets.
