Did anyone get 'Spend the two weeks before inauguration ranting about invading Panama, Canada and Greenland' on their Trump Bingo Card?
Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
Re: The Politics Thread 2025
No, i certainly didn't have that on the bingo card.
I actually spent a bit of my morning the other day reading about the Greenland thing was about as it wasn't immediately clear to me why he was interested.
What a strange place we find ourselves in to start 2025.
But i did have a Trump - Elon public break up on the bingo card. And already, before he's even sworn in, we've got reports that Trump is already getting fed up with Elon's ****
He bought you the election, Donald. You cant complain when he comes to get what he paid for!
Also appreciate the time Trump spent crying about the flags being at half mast for his inauguration because of Jimmy Carter's passing.
2025 is on one early!

On the bright side, let's sell Australia to the U.S. They can have Victoria and the ACT for free
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

Just to be very clear… The forum guidelines state…
“We will remove posts discussing the moderation of The Greenhouse.”

Don’t post about moderation please. And also to be clear, I’m not putting up with any rubbish in this thread. Trolling, misinformation, misleading posts, will be deleted.

Albo saying today that he knows "how to handle" Trump, so Australia should vote for him I think people care more about what you can do to help them and their families as a government than how you handle a foreign leader

In other Ironical news. Big man Mark got rid of his fact checkers on Meta
Meta says it will end fact checking as Silicon Valley prepares for Trump: https://www.npr.org/2025/01/07/nx-s1-52 ... berg-trump
And ended up having his assertions fact checked can't write this
Mark Zukerberg says Meta fact checkers were the problem: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/07/busi ... check.html
Not sure if this is a genuine freedom of speech (we all know Americans love their freedom) thing or if he's trying to get a slice of Musks "citizen news" pie on X.

Interesting to read earlier this week that Facebook was following twitter/x in ceasing Fact-checking. Or at least changing the way they do it. How long before the GH also adopts this interesting approach?

I had to exit the platform a few weeks ago as it reached a tipping point where I realised it is actually unusable and completely dysfunctional. It was hard to identify what value I was getting from the platform anymore.
All I was getting fed was bum fight videos, adult content, racist disinformation, right wing bot rubbish, crypto spam etc.
I got off Facebook some time ago so don't really care if Zuck decides to take that platform down the same march down the path to dysfunction.

It’s ironic that when the left leaning luvies were driving the bus on Twitter I felt it was a waste of time and that you might as well find a wall to headbutt instead of engaging in any form of debate/convo. It actually makes you think that we as humans always fall into our own echo chambers in the online world. But as I have outlined above, it wasn’t just a plurality of views, it was outright dysfunctionality. An algorithmic mess.

Im still on twitter, and will be for the foreseeable future but i must admit i've cultivated a feed that is pretty much trash free, or as much as can it can be
I am very liberal with my block button and use it almost exclusively to follow US sports for news and information.
My feed is basically NFL, NBA, old wrestling clips, memes and the occasional politics... and yes, adult content and random fight videos because apparently no one can avoid those things on the platform

As Botman points out your feed can be individualised to fit purpose. I’m not a big user so won’t die on the hill with this one but my point stands that before Elon it was a platform where you had to kiss the ring of the LLLs or got hounded out. A bit like the Democratic Party really. (IMO)Mickey_Raider wrote: ↑January 10, 2025, 12:10 pmThat’s not it at all. The Politics Thread 2025
Seems like every day there’s a top of page article from News.com attacking Labor and Albo. The election campaign has informally begun.
Today criticising him for calling out that LA fires in winter are more evidence of the change we need to combat.
Very reminiscent of the “now isn’t the time to talk about gun control” brigade after mass school shootings

When Musks own AI labels him one of the biggest sources of misinformation on Twitter, that tells you everything you need to know about how bad the platform has gotten. The power and influence that man now has is beyond scary especially with the way he’s prepared to use it.

Re: The Politics Thread 2025
LNP are a shoe in regardless of how Labor was performing if global trends are anything to go by, from what I read 100% of incumbents looking after the COVID economy recovery have lost. Hell if a candidate as bad as Trump can win with messaging like “they’re eating the dogs”, policies that will only increase costs and inflation like mass deportations and tariffs when the US economic recovery was the envy of the world then anyone in opposition can win.T_R wrote: ↑January 10, 2025, 4:57 pmFour month election campaign incoming, all so we can choose between the lesser of two who cares.gangrenous wrote:Seems like every day there’s a top of page article from News.com attacking Labor and Albo. Im curious to see how this cycle runs, this is very anecdotal but i've mentioned this before but my social and family circle is probably 65% left leaning, and 35% right... the right have always been very in on bagging Albo but over the last 12 months ive noticed a significant tone shift in friends on the left, and consider myself in that group, who seem to be souring on himgangrenous wrote: ↑January 10, 2025, 4:40 pm Seems like every day there’s a top of page article from News.com attacking Labor and Albo. As Bushy points out, there is a big time trend against incumbants at the moment on the back of this cost of living 'crisis', Albo might be the next in line to cop the brunt of that

Re: The Politics Thread 2025
That is how I expect this to go. Which disappoints me, because I think the Coalition should be kept away from the reins at all cost.
Having Angus Taylor who doesn’t even believe Climate Change is real as energy minister. What a clown show.
They’ve lost all vaguely senior moderates. They’d be a Conservative **** show burning cash on nuclear that I don’t believe for a second they are doing for any reason other than to delay moves away from coal and if the money spent proving it won’t be cost effective goes to some choice places then even better for them.
I think best result would be a Labor minority and getting some more good independents in there for the balance of power forcing them to proper policy, not “show policy” like first home owners grants.

Hopefully state and federal governments are watching LA and learning lessons.
We were underprepared in 2019. LA appear to be horrifically under-prepared this year. We need to have a stack of investment and planning on how to control our next extreme fires.

We were underprepared in 2019. LA appear to be horrifically under-prepared this year. We need to have a stack of investment and planning on how to control our next extreme fires.
