An interesting anecdotal trend I have noticed, is current democratic governments tend to lose elections when they do one of two things:-
1 - Base there whole campaign around not being as **** as the other blokes.
2 - Do a late leadership change scramble.

Then you have the occasional reach to far say bill shortens efforts.

I don't think labor will fall into the trap of point 2, and i personally think they should be able to avoid most of column 1 and just provide some sort of half decent moderate vision moving forward, it will be an interesting watch.

On a different note, thorpe v hanson is very interesting the elected hard right, imo behaves a lot better then the elected hard left. The greens with their people and how they carry about their business have become more and more not an option for me then any of the other minor parties - bit sad since I used to vote for them but for a party who is supposed to be helping the environment and marginalised, they more and more just find their heads up their own arses.

I don't think Shorten was overreach. I think Shorten lost because he couldn't move past division - they decided in that election to spend the whole time carrying on about the 'big end of town'. Works when you're a union leader firing up a crowd, but didn't play well at all with the general electorate.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Does that mean you’ve changed your position on negative gearing and capital gains tax reform?

Another insightful podcast from the little Irishman David McWilliams (who I insist should be President of planet earth instead of Elon) giving an insight about how and why housing affordability in the West is getting almost beyond an entire generation. (IMO)

Also wonder if we could/should have a thread for podcasts so others may wish to share if others are not interested in having them posted in different threads.

I love the Dave McWilliams podcast, I listen to almost it every Sunday when I take the dog to and from the beach (it’s forty minutes each way).

I’m sure dubby hates that I take my dog to the beach, because it’s a nice thing to do.

I'm confused, is dubby for or against the group of people called out for eating dogs and pets

Finished the last couple of episodes of America’s Last Election, had to pause for a bit after the result of the most recent election. Was quite insightful.

For those who enjoy podcasts, there is now a thread to share what you enjoy.

viewtopic.php?t=36392
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

podcasts are amazing right now. At least on the right side of politics in the US.

You've recently had:

Marc Andreessen
Mike Benz
Mark Vought
Dr Mark Hyman

All on JR or with Tucker. All of these folk are either in Trump's proposed team, or have been hanging around with them in Florida. 10 hours of inside information. Everyone on the planet has the opportunity for this unique insight into what these folks are thinking. And what they think the challenges will be to putting into play the vision that they ran on.

For me, the transparency and authenticity of it is what the left just don't have. Or at least, apparent transparency. Even if you don't like any of these folk or their messages (for me, Vought seems almost religious in his approach, I found him quite off putting) - it's fascinating seeing this emerging approach to delivering political messaging.

And what I find even more fascinating is there is almost no coverage of these discussions in the media. Almost none, even if you search for it (in fact, searching for it is really hard on Google). No one is engaging with it at all. Nobody fact checking or refuting it. It's bizarre. These are the most important and illuminating long form conversations on the planet atm, all there waiting to be picked apart and discussed. But nothing!

That is obviously quite deliberate. It's an information war (Benz's chat is very enlightening I think here) and the left are still trying to use censorship, attacking individuals (with letters from mothers lol) and not-engaging at all as their mechanism to try and win that war. I also tried to find and listen to more left stuff post election, and i found Nancy pelosi on the interview (NYT), and it is just not the same thing. 40mins, not relaxed, barely any information, no authenticity.

Leaving aside which team you like and what information you choose to believe, if you just listen to these to analyse the way they are delivering their message - the left can't possibly win as it stands imo. With Elon buying twitter (which gets their message through to working class fellas) and this style of podcast covering people that want longer format genuine-sounding style of information... the left can no longer rely on their advertising/superior funding and media/NGO disinformation network. The centrists will side with the right every time.

Something will emerge to counter this, no doubt. It is a fascinating time to be alive.

Google is IMO a big part of the problem with the Internet. They direct traffic like sheep to the things they want to support. I’ve banged on adnauseam about how difficult it is to just find facts for whatever the issue of the day is but when things get buried or Google doesn’t support it, it is very hard to find. When you do get past all the bias BS you can get to the core of a lot of issues.

Again IMO the just completed US election was the death knell fo Mainstream Media and it is great to see because the political bias to the extremes of politics (both left and right) was becoming so silly that it was a waste of time to even bother looking when most people are in the centre and no-one (other than the right podcasts) catered to the majority. (IMO)

Replace main stream media with podcasters with an agenda? How is that a good thing? Rogan let 32 false claims by Trump go unchecked. Compare that to his interview with Jonathan Swan, a real journalist.
