Simaima Taufa claims her second Canberra Raiders Fans' Choice Player of the Year award



Simaima Taufa has claimed the 2024 NRLW Canberra Raiders Fans' Choice Player of the Year award. It is her second trophy, after taking out the inaugural award in 2023. She has also won the title of Forward of the Year. She was named player of the match in four of her eight games and earned points in five matches.

Fellow forwards Grace Kemp and Sophie Holyman also finished in the top five players in the tally.

Taufa was the Dally M Female Player of the Year in 2017. She took out the Dally M NRLW Captain of the Year and Lock of the Year awards in 2023. There is no doubt Taufa will be challenging for more Dally M success in 2024.

The Jillaroos and Blues representative played three seasons with the Roosters and two with the Eels, before deciding on a move to the national capital for Canberra's first season in the NRLW competition in 2023. She was a tower of strength in the middle both this year and last.

In 2024, Taufa ranked 10th in the NRLW for post contact metres (63 per game) and 10th for running metres (161 per game). She ranked ninth for most tackles per game (31 per match). She also ranked in the top 10 in the competition for decoy runs (six per game), along with team mate Sophie Holyman (ranked first) and Monalisa Soliola (fourth). This year, she scored four tries, while making five line breaks, 18 tackle breaks and posting a 92 per cent tackle efficiency rate.



Zahara Temara is the Fans' Choice Back of the Year - for the second year in a row. She was named player of the match in the Round 1 victory over the Tigers and picked up points in four matches.

Born in Rotorua, Temara moved with her family to Australia's Gold Coast in 2007. The play maker spent five NRLW seasons with the Sydney Roosters, before joining the Raiders last year.

Temara scored two tries and 25 goals in 2024, making her the third highest point scorer in the league. This year, she was the first NRLW player to hit 200 career points, achieving the benchmark in the Round 9 win over the Titans. Temara ranked fourth for line engagements (six per match), equal seventh for try assists (six) and equal eighth for line break assists (seven). She also ranked in the top 10 players for most kicks and most attacking kicks, sixth for kicking metres (200 per match) and produced five forced line drop outs. She averaged 70 running metres and 14 tackles per match.

The Canberra Raiders Fans' Choice Player of the Year has been awarded to NRL players since 2004, with the inaugural winner being Ruben Wiki. Winners have included Alan Tongue, Terry Campese, Shaun Fensom, Jarrod Croker, Josh Hodgson, Jordan Rapana and Josh Papalii. Joe Tapine won his second NRL Fans' Choice award this year. With the entry of the Canberra Raiders into the NRLW Premiership in 2023, the award was extended to the top flight women's competition.

The award, sponsored by The Greenhouse Canberra Raiders supporters site, was voted on by the fans on line, who give 3-2-1 points to the best players each week. The Player of the Year receives a crystal trophy from The Greenhouse.
