Re: 2024 Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg
Not a great way to go into the finals. Maybe they took the foot off knowing the finals are next week.
I noticed Roosters won 5 in a row to finish Flegg as well, I guess they are stacked in all grades.

As the Raiders are the minor premiers, they now get a week off. They will meet the winner of the clash between the second placed Panthers and third placed Bulldogs in Week 2 of the finals.

Last round: The Canberra Raiders lost, 40-22, to the Sydney Roosters at Wentworth Park in the final round of the regular season. After resting the vast bulk of the team the week before, Canberra was close to full strength. So it wasn't exactly the tune up for the finals that coach Jordan Macey would have been hoping to see. Winger Kane Rushton got a double in the first half and the Raiders only trailed by six at half time. The Roosters came out firing in the second half, scoring four tries straight - taking a 40-12 lead at the 60 minute mark. Siamani Leuluai and Ethan Alaia got some consolation, scoring tries in the final five minutes or so.
Next round: As minor premiers, the Raiders have had Week 1 of the finals off. It remains to be seen whether that is of benefit or has interrupted the team's momentum. Hopefully, it is the former. They will meet the Bulldogs in Week 2, a qualifier for the Grand Final. The Bulldogs produced a comprehensive victory over the Penrith Panthers on Saturday at Leichhardt Oval, scoring five tries in a 32-6 victory. They led 14-0 at half time, and went on with it in the second half. Fullback Taye Cochrane got a double.
Team news: The Raiders have switched Keahn Skipps to fullback and Trae Bennetto to halfback. Tahrell Feaveai will also switch to prop, with Mitchell Prest to start at lock.

I looked up past Flegg Players of the Year and gee a lot of them went nowhere, barely first graders. Some park footy players in fact. I wonder why? Do the really good ones just skip Flegg?
I think Pattie will be an exception though, not to jinx him

Re: 2024 Canberra Raiders Jersey Flegg
It's a lot to draw on from a single player award in a competition with so many players in squads that are so disrupted. In general I'd say it's not as extreme as just skipping. The players that are more physically suited to NSW cup at a younger age would just not play as much flegg.
For those that do play a lot there's a big difference between something you can get by on just raw talent before it turns into a job and you either find you haven't got the genetics for it, no longer find that increased level of competitiveness fun, or realise that every time you don't put in 100% off the field everyone is just getting further away from you.
This is also subject to spots being available in higher grades. Woolford and trev stay fit we probably don't see Pattie in NSW cup at all. If they went down earlier he probably comes up earlier and misses out on the award.
From what I've seen in cup I don't think any of the above is going to affect him making the step up. Just needs to stay injury free and he'll make it.

Yeah, usually. SG Ball success probably translates better as far as getting groups of really good NRL players.Canberra Milk wrote: ↑September 12, 2024, 10:29 am I looked up past Flegg Players of the Year and gee a lot of them went nowhere, barely first graders. Theres plenty of good players who didn’t skip though. Last time the Raiders made the Flegg grand final Timoko was in the side for example.

Some major late inclusions for Flegg... which suggest there'll be some major late inclusions for NSW Cup.

24th min Raiders incorrectly denied a try. A Skipps kick is knocked on in the in goal by the Bulldogs. The Raiders put it down. Absolutely clear and certain try robbed by the officials. The referee incorrectly ruled it was grounded in goal by the Dogs.

Probably need to tighten things up a bit in a semi, they did push a couple of passes. Still they did well considering the breeze. I think they look the more talented side.
